Chapter 488: Amy’s Thoughts
“I already knew that most of Noah’s countries are mere pawns of the gods. These gods, who appear to be high above and detached, are actually manipulating history behind the scenes.”
Amy sighed, her eyes flickering with a rare determination.
“But little did I know, the reason for my shattered body was tied to one of these mighty deities above.”
Maryse and Bai Yan, known as the Profligate, stood silently by her side, listening to their friend.
In the dimly lit cabin, a limbless girl lay motionless.
“Mr. Profligate, Maryse, you are both my trusted friends. What do you think about the reasons and consequences of all this?”
Maryse hesitated for a moment before responding, her tone a mix of apprehension and resolve.
“It sounds horrifying… and incredibly maddening! Should we take action against the Rock Morgan group?”
Amy smiled softly, her gaze steady.
“Did you say that because you could sense my heart’s thoughts?”
Maryse gave an awkward yet endearing smile, scratching her head.
“You caught me,” she admitted with a light chuckle.
She then added, half-jokingly,
“To be honest, I struggle to empathize with strangers. Maybe it’s because I feel most people have ugly hearts and don’t deserve my sympathy. Amy, you’re different—you treat strangers with the innocence of children, but to me, others feel like hell.”
Maryse’s tone shifted to something earnest, her voice filled with conviction.
“But you’re my friend, Amy. If you want revenge, I’ll help you. That’s one thing I’ll never waver on.”
Her sincerity was palpable. For her, Amy was unlike anyone else. Strangers might suffer and perish, but Amy’s pain was personal.
Maryse had always admired Amy’s nurturing, motherly nature. Having lost her own mother at a young age, she found solace in Amy’s warmth. They even shared lighthearted moments, like when Maryse jokingly requested potions to alter certain body parts—but that was a story for another time.
Bai Yan, meanwhile, remained silent, observing with a faint smile.
“Thank you,” Amy said sincerely, her gratitude directed at her two closest allies.
Turning to Bai Yan, she asked,
“What do you think, Mr. Profligate? About my determination to never let this go, to make Rock Morgan and Crimson Sovereign pay? Is it for revenge?”
Bai Yan shook his head gently, his gaze calm and understanding.
“No. It’s not revenge that drives you. It’s your pride—the kind born from someone who considers herself a ‘Savior.’ Compared to trivial vengeance, you care more about redeeming others.”
Amy blinked, surprised. She hadn’t expected such a perspective.
“Your pride,” Bai Yan continued, “sets you apart. True saviors, like the leader of Babel Tower, are filled with pride. It’s not arrogance; it’s confidence. You genuinely believe you can save the world, and you carry yourself accordingly.”
Amy nodded thoughtfully, reflecting on his words.
“I see. So, I am proud—not in a selfish way, but in a way that aligns with my ideals. I understand now.”
Bai Yan studied her for a moment, his tone steady.
“You want to defeat Rock Morgan and the deity behind them—not for yourself, but to protect others. You’re driven by the hope of sparing countless innocents from suffering.”
“Yes,” Amy agreed, her voice firm.
She couldn’t bear to see others fall victim to the same fate that had befallen her.
“But to face Rock Morgan and the Crimson Sovereign, I need the Savior’s power. So far, He has guided us, but now I think we might have suggestions of our own for how Babel Tower should move forward.”
Bai Yan raised an eyebrow, intrigued.
“And how do you propose to do that?”
Amy’s eyes glimmered with resolve.
“By provoking a direct confrontation with Rock Morgan.”
Maryse gasped, her face pale.
“Are you serious? If the Savior finds out, won’t He punish you for acting without His permission?”
Amy chuckled softly, her confidence unwavering.
“I don’t think so. If the Savior disapproved, He would have stopped me by now. If He doesn’t, then He either agrees with me or isn’t omniscient enough to interfere.”
Bai Yan’s smile widened as he nodded.
“Go ahead, Amy. Even if the Savior opposes you, I’ll still stand by your side.”
“Me too,” Maryse chimed in, her determination matching his.
Amy felt a swell of gratitude.
“You two are so kind to me. Thank you.”
She wasn’t seeking mere emotional support today. This conversation was a test—a way to gauge Bai Yan’s true stance. If he supported her, it would mean the Savior might not object to her plans.
With renewed confidence, Amy declared,
“Then it’s settled. We’ll push the Babel Tower and Rock Morgan into open conflict.”
Her voice carried a quiet resolve, the kind that could change the course of history.
