Chapter 475: Ignorance and Vanity
A new emergency mission titled “Vanity and Ignorance” had just been assigned.
As soon as Bai Yan saw the name, a wave of recognition hit him. It brought to mind a mysterious organization he hadn’t thought about in a while—the infamous terrorist group, notorious across the diverse universe for their acts of terror.
This group was none other than the Tower.
Most of these individuals were not human. From a human perspective, their deeds could only be described as vile. They were known for their cruelty, having destroyed entire civilizations without ever performing a single act of kindness.
From the information provided by “Projection” and “Xu Library,” Bai Yan understood the deeper truth: The Tower organization was originally composed of followers and disciples of the God of Games. These loyal subordinates served this arrogant calamity who sought to invade the realms of the gods.
Whether their loyalty still stood was uncertain, but one thing was clear—they were indeed under the sway of the God of Games and Gambling.
And, most notably, the Tower was eager to claim something that rightfully belonged to the God of Games and Gambling.
Babel Tower.
Bai Yan murmured under his breath, “The treasures of Babel Tower… even the Outer Gods would envy them. No wonder the Tower seeks them, regardless of their intentions.”
According to the data from “Projection,” the Tower organization had members assigned to various roles—Solitary, Ignorant, Cruel, Vain, Timid, Jealous, and Hungry. Other positions like “Greed,” “Fear,” “Depravity,” and “Pride” remained vacant.
Jealousy and Pride had already been dealt with, leaving six roles still in play. Among them, the most troublesome was their leader, the strongest member of the Tower—Solitary.
“Solitary” was likely a true deity by now, wielding immense, terrifying power. Currently, the combined forces of Babel Tower stood no chance against him.
However, being a deity also posed a limitation. World consciousness, acting as an “immune system,” would not allow him to act recklessly.
Bai Yan pondered this deeply. His hands were not idle as he clicked on the new mission titled “Vanity and Ignorance.”
The mission appeared in the form of an RPG, featuring cute pixelated characters that seemed harmless at first glance.
There was no character selection in this game. Bai Yan could only control three units: the “World Savior,” the “Hidden Azure,” and the “Innocent Singer.”
Unlike other quests, the “Vanity and Ignorance” mission had only two bosses—”Vanity” and “Ignorance” from the Tower organization.
A brief battle revealed their abilities were tricky, making it seem like Bai Yan was at a disadvantage. However, thanks to the “Babel Tower” cheat code, Bai Yan could anticipate their moves and formulate a plan to counter them.
“But now,” Bai Yan thought, “the most pressing problem isn’t just defeating these two…”
Instead, the real issue lay in what would happen next.
The battle would take place in Enos’ new imperial city, where Bai Yan and his companions would be caught in the crossfire. In an instant, millions of lives would be lost, with no survivors.
Bai Yan grimaced. He didn’t want to see that outcome.
Enos’ New Imperial City
This city was not far from Hoth City, home to millions of people. It was the political, economic, and cultural heart of Enos. Built over three hundred years ago, the city had long ceased to be “new.” To most, it was simply the imperial city.
But for Bai Yan, the changes that had taken place over a thousand years in Enos seemed like little more than the passing of a year.
The current Emperor of Enos was Orinois. To outsiders, he appeared detached, seemingly uninvolved in any affairs. Most of the land’s governance was handled by the Emperor’s Council, leading the people to secretly call him the “Lazy Emperor.”
However, few knew the truth. Despite his lazy facade, Orinois had been silently controlling Enos from behind the scenes for years. The decrees of the Council were always in alignment with his will.
Although he appeared passive in daily matters, Orinois had personally appointed every member of the Council.
Now, in his grand and luxurious study, Orinois sat on a red and golden sofa, calmly reading an ancient book.
He cherished the study, often retreating here. But few knew why.
The common ancestor of the Enos and Andochel people was Prince Samael, the ancient ruler of Andochel, who had married the Day Queen Charlotte. It was said that he often worked in his study, manipulating the affairs of the world, vanquishing false gods, and repelling invasions from the demon armies of Hell.
Legend had it that Prince Samael was nearly omnipotent, a being rivaling a deity. As a child, Orinois had dismissed these tales as embellishments, but as he grew older, he investigated and discovered that the legend had understated Samael’s greatness.
The truth was far more impressive than the stories.
Orinois’ admiration for Samael grew, and he resolved to follow in his footsteps, becoming a hidden mastermind himself—silently controlling Enos as the “Lazy Emperor.”
“In a few decades,” Orinois mused, “we will march towards Andochel, uniting the two continents. We will establish a new imperial capital in the ancestral land of Prince Samael… the true Andochel.”
He even planned to marry the current Empress of Andochel, ensuring a partnership of equal stature to Samael’s, with an “Emperor” level companion by his side.
Orinois smiled faintly as he continued to read, his mind turning over numerous plans—how to eliminate internal instability, how to infiltrate Andochel, and how to make the senators completely obedient.
Suddenly, his thoughts were interrupted. He looked up and saw a man in a mysterious suit with salt-and-pepper hair, accompanied by two identical, stunningly beautiful dolls.
Without warning, the three of them appeared in his study.
“Guard!” Orinois instinctively reached for his guards, but in the blink of an eye, Bai Yan froze time and appeared before him.
Bai Yan gently extended his hand.
“Don’t move.”
A surge of mental force crashed into Orinois’ soul. In mere seconds, confusion clouded the emperor’s eyes, and he lost control of his body.
An hour was all Bai Yan needed. The Tower would soon come knocking at his door. With little time to waste, Bai Yan resorted to the simplest and most direct method.
Infiltrating Orinois’ palace was no small feat. A powerful Apocalypse-level ancestor resided there, someone formidable enough to stand against Bai Yan.
If Bai Yan or Kaluoer were alone, overpowering the ancestor would be impossible. A fierce battle could even devastate the city.
But with all three of them together, there was no mercy. The problem was quickly neutralized.
After overpowering Orinois’ defenses with psychic power, Bai Yan didn’t hesitate. Using “Connection” and the power of the mind, he began extracting information, eager to learn about the ancient queen Aphrora.
But what he found surprised him.
“Huh?”
In Orinois’ life story, Aphrora was absent. According to the emperor, she was just an ordinary ancestor who had long passed away—nothing more than a figure from history.
Yet, Bai Yan’s instincts, sharpened by the “Babel Tower” game, told him otherwise. Aphrora was likely still alive, hidden somewhere in Enos.
Without wasting time, Bai Yan pushed his psychic power to its limits, manipulating millions of ordinary citizens in the city. He directed them to evacuate in an orderly fashion.
The “Tower” was about to strike, and there was no time for normal evacuation. Even as Bai Yan altered the battlefield, he knew that the Tower had its own designs on the city. Vanity’s powers grew stronger the more people were around him.
Kaluoer and Evie could offer little assistance at this stage, so they stood by, watching.
Over the course of an hour, Bai Yan successfully led the majority of the city’s population to safety. Only then did he begin to ease his mental grip.
Dizzy and close to fainting, Bai Yan almost collapsed, but Kaluoer quickly supported him.
“Master.”
With the power of “Infinity,” Bai Yan’s senses were instantly revived.
But his expression tightened.
“The Tower has arrived.”
It was time. The Babel Tower would be seized!
