Chapter 457: Nian
Everyone had to admit that the Almighty possessed an almost insurmountable power, one that caused much distress.
With abilities like “time regression” and “infinite backup,” combined with her immense strength, she became nearly invincible, almost impossible to kill.
Yet, even the most formidable beings have vulnerabilities. The Almighty was no different.
Her “time regression” required conscious activation, and while “infinite backup” granted her an unlimited number of bodies, it did not create multiple souls.
In the end, the Almighty only had one soul.
She didn’t need a true duplicate of herself.
Due to the annulus civilization’s protective influence over the city, the Heart of Radiance couldn’t instantly eliminate her soul. However, those infiltrating the Giant Hive through Babel Tower’s power could bypass this barrier, inflicting soul damage that couldn’t be diminished.
True invincibility, it seemed, didn’t exist.
Though Bai Yan couldn’t harness the potential of Core Operators, he had carefully nurtured Maryse, who had the potential to become the “Moon Dancer” upon arriving at Apocalypse and choosing the power of fairy tales.
However, once Maryse made her choice, the powers of other possibilities ceased to grow. But even so, these possibilities remained active.
The Moon Dancer’s dance possessed the power to bewitch souls.
This formidable power, which stemmed from the Eternal Moon within the Outer God, could even affect divine beings. Naturally, the Almighty was not immune to it.
At this moment, the Almighty stood, her consciousness blurred, gazing vacantly at the “moonlight” in the sky.
She was entranced.
The moonlight seemed to transform into an overwhelming torrent of information, one that the Almighty struggled to comprehend.
Bai Yan knew that if he could eliminate her true form while the Almighty’s consciousness remained trapped in this state, he would bring an end to everything.
Though the Almighty was powerful, in the World of Adventures, strength in numbers was the key.
Bai Yan had trained many individuals for Babel Tower. Now, it was the perfect time to make use of them.
However, despite possessing immense power through Power Possession, Bai Yan could never replace any Core Operator.
Maryse, for her part, was frustrated.
She adorned herself with moonlight once more and danced gracefully.
A strange feeling enveloped her as she wished for anyone witnessing her dance to perish immediately.
[Oh, how frustrating. What could possibly be happening…?]
[I was just out shopping, why is this happening?]
Soon, Maryse noticed something — a piece of paper in mid-air began transforming into the figure of Mr. Profligate.
[Oh, Senior Profligate is here!]
He seemed detached from the world, sitting mid-air with an air of complete control.
Profligate smiled as he observed the physical form of the Almighty, his eyes narrowing with confidence.
Though Maryse wasn’t noticed by him at all, she unknowingly danced with even more enthusiasm, as if showing off her beauty.
Bai Yan, flying above, spoke slowly:
“Almighty, this is your final fate… So, this ‘war’ ends here.”
But in Bai Yan’s heart, this was just the beginning.
This city was important to him, and at the very top of the sky…
The Scarlet Moon looked down from above like a mighty witch.
Red flames scorched the air, raising the temperature to unbearable levels. The sky and clouds turned crimson, as if signaling the end of the world.
Her voice was commanding and full of authority.
“I don’t know who you are, and I’m not familiar with you… but since you’re against Babel Tower, you are also my enemy.”
She was unlike Elene, Mu Ling, or any other. The Scarlet Moon didn’t care about right or wrong, good or evil. She only focused on whom she needed to protect.
Words were futile.
The Bad Inflammation, resembling an ultimate evil force, turned into a red comet, descending rapidly.
“Boom!”
With layers of power unleashed, an explosion rocked the ground, shattering the nests one after another.
The Almighty’s body was reduced to ashes by the crimson flames, vanishing entirely.
A towering column of fire erupted from the ground, leaving everyone in awe as they witnessed the spectacle.
Partridge, kneeling on the ground, stared in disbelief.
“Lord Almighty… has been defeated?”
One by one, the Almighty’s clones collapsed, losing consciousness and becoming lifeless husks.
Bad Inflammation was a powerful relic from the Scourge of War that could directly damage one’s soul.
Bai Yan knew that under the full-force attack of the Scarlet Moon, the defenseless Almighty had been completely destroyed.
She had no chance to speak before she passed — no time for regret, reflection, or even curses.
Inside the Giant Hive, a powerful figure had once been worshiped and feared. But now, those mysterious clones, who once defied even the gods, had vanished without a trace.
With a single misstep, everything was lost.
Reality was cruel. No matter the great feats once achieved, no matter the evil plans for the future, they were all meaningless now.
For the Almighty was already gone.
“Great job, Your Majesty! It’s so amazing that I feel scared just watching.”
In the sky, Maryse gazed at the vampire queen amid the flames. Bai Yan, flying through the air, clapped his hands, smiling.
Maryse smiled too.
“Haha.”
The Scarlet Moon smirked and flew to Bai Yan’s side, commanding him, “I’m thirsty. Come over tonight.”
“You only have this little wicked hobby.”
Bai Yan nodded, fully aware that only true blood could satisfy her. Sighing, he thought, “Unlike Maryse, it’s not as easy to please her.”
“Evil? Vampires drink blood, humans eat meat… it’s all natural.”
The Scarlet Moon furrowed her brows. “I am different from all of you. I am not an idealist.”
“I am not either,” Bai Yan responded with a smile.
“You are,” she retorted.
The Scarlet Moon locked eyes with Bai Yan. “I can taste from a person’s blood what kind of person they truly are…”
Bai Yan remained silent as the Scarlet Moon continued.
“But sometimes, people don’t understand themselves, who they are, what they should become, or what they will eventually become.”
At the Noy Military Headquarters Building, the clone individuals who served as the “offspring” of the Almighty surrendered without resistance.
The Almighty’s downfall had shattered their belief in the battle.
A giant, deep blue slime was in the hall, swallowing the frightened clones one by one and regurgitating them after brainwashing them.
From a humane perspective, this was cruel. From a legal perspective, it was unjust. But it was the fastest way to regain control.
And so, Bai Yan chose this method.
In the basement of the headquarters, there was a bright, secret room, spacious and enormous.
Rows of white cabinets filled the room. Each compartment contained a safe storing important items.
Standing before one of these cabinets, Elene held a strand of blue silk and fell into deep thought.
That was the Almighty’s memory.
She looked at it again.
“Is this memory real or fake?”
Words appeared on the cue card again.
Bai Yan shook his head. “There are no traps, no tricks to drive you mad. It’s just a memory, but not necessarily the truth.”
From the moment they entered the city, they saw countless lies.
Many believed the world outside the Giant Hive was on the brink of destruction and that only the Almighty protected them as the true God of humanity.
He paused and said, “Honestly, I think it’s partly true and partly false. The Almighty likely embellished her own experiences, portraying herself as a victim.”
Elene remained silent for a long time.
Finally, words appeared on the cue card.
“I didn’t know who I was before, and I didn’t know who others wanted me to become… But fortunately, I finally had the chance to decide who I wanted to be.”
Although Bai Yan had already heard her decision, he felt a sense of unease. Scarlet Moon’s words had stirred something within him.
He thought for a moment and asked, “Do you no longer wish to inherit that person’s will? Do you want to become a new Elene, one who lives for the sake of ordinary people?”
“No.”
The answer on the cue card was completely unexpected.
What was happening?
Bai Yan froze, then suddenly realized. “Ah, this situation is different from before.”
Back then, when facing the Almighty, it was still the “war” period. She chose to continue as Elene because, at the time, she believed Elene was necessary for the city’s survival.
“Babel Tower will take over this city. I’m willing to believe that the Savior will improve it. If that’s the case, I’m no longer needed here, and neither is Elene.”
“Elene” Nian remained silent, her fingers tapping the icy keyboard with a steady rhythm.
She gazed into Bai Yan’s eyes.
“But… if the Savior brings pain, despair, and silences the things people love, then a new Elene will rise in this city. It may not be me, but someone will.”
“The darkness will not last forever.”
Bai Yan chuckled, singing a different tune.
“Will there always be a hero in times of oppression? Will the hero always defeat the villains? Not necessarily. In the end, it’s all just the idealists’ imagination.”
But Nian shook her head, a smile on her face — a smile that had never existed in countless past lifetimes.
“These things don’t concern me right now. From now on, I will live as Nian. No longer will I be the leader of the rebel army… The rebel army no longer needs to exist.”
“Actually, I want to open a flower shop.”
