Chapter 45: Meeting the Savior
Mu Ling lingered in the familiar school hallway, concealing her expression.
She saw many old friends but was too timid to approach them, forced to watch them from afar.
Mu Ling understood perfectly.
They were undoubtedly being monitored by the DHA.
If she came forward to greet them casually, she would certainly bring harm to them, so Mu Ling suppressed her growing anxiety.
The peaceful life of this world no longer belonged to her.
This was not a place where Mu Ling should be, yet she still hoped to find some clues about her “Savior.”
Although Mu Ling had limited contact with this mysterious and powerful entity, she had already realized that it had fundamentally changed every aspect of her life.
Whether granting her powerful strength or manipulating her body to fight, Mu Ling remembered these experiences vividly.
However, despite searching for a long time, she had still not found the young man.
Where could he be?
Mu Ling continued wandering and searching, feeling increasingly lost.
‘Why do I need to meet him? To show my gratitude? Or is it due to my helplessness and fear?’
She suddenly considered this thought and shook her head immediately.
As a strong-willed hunter, she had long been capable of facing all dangers and difficulties alone.
Moreover, she was about to avenge her family and restore its glory.
She whispered to herself, “I just want to express my gratitude and understand Babel Tower better.”
Indeed, everything about the Babel Tower intrigued Mu Ling deeply.
This mysterious organization had manipulated her to do many things, yet it remained hidden in the black mist, making it impossible for anyone to uncover.
Before she realized it, she had reached the top of the teaching building, gazing down at the students coming and going from school.
Suddenly, a male voice spoke.
“You are Nightsaber, correct, Miss Mu Ling?”
Mu Ling startled as she turned around and saw a young man wearing a purple stripe-patterned suit, his hands in his pockets and a large smiling mask on his face.
He held a black magic wand, and Mu Ling’s intuition told her that both the man and his wand posed great danger.
“DHA?”
Mu Ling’s expression remained unchanged as she reached for the black cross on her fair neck.
Under the smiling face mask, Alan smiled and twirled his wand, saying, “Yes, DHA needs to question you about breaking the ‘Mystic Principle.'”
“I hope to avoid fighting. After all, battles between equals are truly difficult to predict.”
“I cannot go with you.”
Mu Ling shook her head calmly, refusing. Then she removed the black cross, which instantly transformed into a heavy, pitch-black cross sword.
“Oh, what a shame. I didn’t want to fight with a lady.”
“However, your answer was as expected.”
Alan ceased speaking and his eyes grew more serious.
Even if they might not be true enemies, and could even be opponents of cult groups, their different positions meant this battle was inevitable.
However, fighting in the real world differs from games and anime. Unless there exists a huge power gap between opponents, it’s simply impossible to stop mid-fight.
In other words, either of them might fall here!
Suddenly, Mu Ling heard a familiar voice in her mind.
[Nightsaber, you are about to be summoned.]
She felt everything around her fragment, turning into elementary particles before rebuilding again. After a moment, she realized she was about to arrive at Babel Tower.
‘Savior, is he summoning me?’
Alan watched as a cloud of dense black mist suddenly appeared, enveloping Mu Ling’s body instantly.
“Stop!”
He raised his hand and threw several magic knives, but they passed through the black mist directly without affecting anything inside, as if it existed in a different dimension.
“Is this the power of the master of Babel Tower?”
Alan remained confused. After watching the black mist gradually disappear, he raised his hand, and the magic throwing knife returned to him automatically.
“Now I’m relieved that Bai Yan is no longer in school.”
Alan fell into deep contemplation. Mu Ling had come here for specific reasons. If the ambivalent member of Babel Tower were to be disadvantaged because of him, it would be disastrous.
“Damn it!”
Every relic demands a price, and the “Rotating Copperhead Belt” proved no exception.
Maryse sat on the bed, eating continuously. Maid Irena unwrapped numerous snack packages and handed them to Maryse with a resigned expression.
She felt ravenously hungry, and regardless of how much she ate, satiation remained elusive.
It was the cost of the copper belt.
Maryse devoured cookies, ice cream, chocolate, jelly, crispy noodles, popcorn, and marshmallows with desperate intensity.
Irena couldn’t help asking, “Won’t you get fat?”
She already weighed 50kg and was restricted to eating only diet salad.
Maryse stuffed a sausage into her mouth while answering nonchalantly, “No chance. Elves excel at staying slim; it’s one of our racial traits. What’s wrong?”
“Nothing at all.” Irena turned her head and pouted discontentedly.
[I can’t believe you don’t have to worry about eating anything, that’s so unfair. I curse you to remain an A cup forever!]
Maryse paused momentarily then said angrily, “Really, you’re jealous of me? I’ll pinch you! Taste my Dragon Claw!”
She raised her hands to grab Irena but was held in place by Irena’s quick hand on her head. She couldn’t move forward, her arms flailing like cat claws.
Irena said wearily, “Behave yourself, my dear elf lady. But I truly envy your longevity and eternal youth.”
“The long-lived races are truly remarkable. I really envy you.”
Such words could only be shared with Maryse privately, as speaking them publicly in this elf family would be considered disrespectful.
[I won’t be able to stay with you after 100 years… Maryse.]
Maryse faltered slightly, then suddenly said, “Actually, you could extend your life too. Even as an ordinary person, there’s a way.”
Irena paused momentarily, then shook her head and replied, “Don’t go to such lengths for me.”
[What should I do, she wants to help me. Damn it, I must control my emotions. But I’m still so moved, I almost want to agree.]
Irena stepped back quickly and said, “Ignore what I said, I’m just feeling uncertain. It’s not duplicity.”
Just as Maryse prepared to respond, dense black mist suddenly materialized.
Irena jumped in surprise. Seeing the black mist encompassing Maryse, she rushed forward and instinctively reached out to grab her friend. Her palm passed straight through her.
“The master of Babel Tower, Maryse where are you?”
Irena recalled Maryse’s explanation and felt somewhat relieved. Yet watching the little girl before her vanish still caused her distress.
“I’ll wait here for you.”
[You are about to be summoned, Psychic Dancer.]
Everything disintegrated before Maryse’s eyes as she attempted to grasp Irena’s hand, but found nothing there.
—
The stars in the night sky sparkled as the constellations shifted continuously.
“Where is this?”
“Savior?”
The two girls spoke simultaneously, quickly turning to look at each other.
Mu Ling observed a lovely girl across the table wearing a white cat mask, with golden sand-colored hair.
It’s her, “Psychic Dancer”!
Mu Ling instantly recognized the other girl.
The girl wore a white dog mask and had white hair. Maryse identified her as Nightsaber.
Both girls felt somewhat reassured upon seeing a familiar face, but they were astounded by what lay before them!
This place seemed magical, like an ancient relic. The stars in the night sky shone brilliantly, and the constellations moved as though alive.
Dynamic murals adorned the surrounding walls, depicting ancient heroic epics. Everything made them feel their own insignificance.
Yet their primary concern wasn’t the mysterious environment, but rather the enigmatic figure seated upon the throne of the night sky at the head of the long table.
He was completely shrouded in thick fog, concealed by a black cloak that made his true appearance indiscernible.
A unique pressure emanated from him, as if an invisible connection existed between them, causing Mu Ling and Maryse to hold their breath unconsciously.
‘Could this be the master of Babel Tower, Savior?’ Maryse pondered, gradually clenching her hands.
Then she briefly feared her thoughts might be detected, which would spell disaster.
‘But criticizing him feels oddly satisfying!’
Maryse suddenly realized something crucial – her psychic powers had ceased functioning!
Some invisible force completely blocked her abilities, preventing her from reading not only the ‘Savior’s’ thoughts but also those of ‘Nightsaber’!
How could this be possible?
Maryse found it utterly inconceivable. Her psychic power held the highest priority among similar abilities, and even her family’s best efforts couldn’t find a way to resist it!
For her, the current situation presented a truly unique experience. Her psychic power had vanished.
It felt as though she’d suddenly lost her sense of smell, leaving Maryse deeply uncomfortable.
Mu Ling rose, placed one hand before her chest and bowed.
“If my assumption is correct, you must be the Savior of Babel Tower, our master.”
Maryse merely observed without comment. Even without psychic power, she could sense that “Nightsaber” demonstrated far greater loyalty than herself.
Bai Yan remained silent. Yet his voice reached both girls simultaneously.
[This is the Babel Tower and I am its master.]
As always, his tone remained cold and emotionless, devoid of the slightest warmth; as though he were the architect behind the game. The two girls trembled slightly under the weight of this sound.
That’s him!
[Nightsaber and Psychic Dancer, you both have contributed significantly to Babel Tower during this period.]
[I thought…]
[You must have wanted to meet me and have many questions to ask.]
