Chapter 439: Explanation
Babel Tower.
It was a mysterious organization that had recently gained fame, its reputation spreading far and wide across the world.
Even in the isolated city of the “Giant Hive,” Elene had heard of them. She knew the name of their leader… The Savior.
A being of immense power, a figure whose strength seemed almost divine. No ordinary being could even hope to compare.
In the tales, even the most mundane individuals, once they joined the Babel Tower, would quickly become remarkably powerful.
To this day, in Noah’s world, countless individuals yearned to be part of Babel Tower. They would give up everything just to become core members, desperate to become stronger.
However, as Elene stood there, she felt a cold shiver run down her spine, as though she had been thrust into a freezing dungeon.
For many, the control of a deity might be a dream come true. But for Elene, it was confusing and… terrifying.
Because, all her efforts, all her struggles, might have been in vain.
If this great deity, the Savior, deemed her loyalty insignificant, they could easily destroy everything.
Her efforts could mean nothing.
But even in that overwhelming realization, a flicker of resolve began to grow inside her.
At first, she wasn’t called Elene. Her real name was Nian.
The original Elene was the leader of the Rebellious Beehive, and the first to lead the resistance.
Elene had been the name of the woman who adopted Nian, the deaf and mute girl.
Nian had been just an ordinary girl, without any extraordinary abilities. The immense psychic power she wielded now had once belonged to Elene, the woman who had raised her.
Elene was a radiant woman, full of hope, full of purpose. She had believed in the Heart of Radiance.
In the city, where resistance had once seemed impossible, where even a small desire for freedom was quickly crushed by the powerful clones of surveillance, Elene had been the first to rise.
As a child, she had been accidentally transported outside the city due to an experiment involving extraordinary powers. When she returned as an adult, she came with new knowledge and abilities.
Her sole goal was to change the world, to fix the injustices she had witnessed.
But Elene had died.
Now, Nian had inherited her spirit, her strength. She had become something extraordinary.
“Hello, Nian… Please carry on with my dreams. I’m sorry I was so stubborn…”
From that moment, Nian became Elene.
The leader of the rebels.
As she recalled the woman who had raised her, Elene felt a sense of peace fill her heart.
That woman had been stubborn, always doing things her own way. She had adopted Nian without asking, chosen to rebel on her own, and even decided to die for her cause. She had kept her power and ideals close, never thinking about the consequences.
Elene smiled faintly. That woman had wanted to change the city, to make it a better place. A place where no one would suffer needlessly, where people could say no to pain.
But then, a peculiar sound interrupted her thoughts.
“Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle!”
She looked up and saw the blue slime, its tentacles extended, as it pointed at itself in a way that seemed almost like it was lecturing Partridge.
“Okay, dear father, I understand. I will go and apologize to her right away.” Partridge smiled gently and moved toward Elene.
Elene’s unease grew. What was she about to do?
But Partridge merely leaned in, pressing her soft face against Elene’s cheek.
With a smile, she whispered, “Sorry, I was doing my own thing back then. I did those things because of it. Please don’t hate me, okay?”
“In the future, we will all be pawns under the command of the Babel Tower… Please guide us.”
Elene felt a strong dislike for the woman as Partridge rubbed against her. But she couldn’t move, unable to pull away or push her off.
Instead, she stood frozen, enduring the other woman’s affection.
“Now I have a fresh start!” Partridge smiled brightly, pointing to her own head. “There used to be a chip in here, one that the Almighty used to control my thoughts. It could have made my head explode at any moment. But now, that chip is gone. I’ve been given a fresh start.”
She paused, then added, “Although my brain was slightly altered, making me deeply respect my father and admire the Savior… honestly, I can’t say I mind.”
Brainwashed, Elene thought.
Her expression remained emotionless, but inside, a cold dread settled in.
Human nature is fragile. To find truly loyal subordinates is almost impossible. The best way to secure loyalty is through control, through extraordinary power.
So, was this how the Savior of Babel Tower operated? Could the slime be used to brainwash others?
Elene shivered at the thought.
The slime gave a soft growl at her, but she couldn’t understand its meaning.
Partridge nodded, becoming more serious. “Dear Savior,” she began, “the Respected Savior will help you fulfill your dreams…”
Partridge had been smiling, but now she sighed softly.
“You’re much luckier than I am… I’m just a common subordinate within the Babel Tower. But you… you, like the Respected Savior, will become a core member of Babel Tower.”
Elene’s mind raced. Core members. She had heard of them. Legends spoke of them, and now, standing in front of Partridge, she realized the truth of those tales.
She thought about the slime, about everything Partridge had said, and instinctively reached out, her fingers brushing the slime.
How adorable, she thought.
The slime made a soft “gulu gulu” sound as it patted her head.
Partridge’s face grew subtle. “Father seems to treat you like a little kitten or puppy.”
Elene remained silent, still trying to make sense of everything.
Then, with newfound determination, she went to a nearby desk and grabbed paper and pen, beginning to write down her questions.
“Why me?”
Partridge responded, “It’s fate. Even my father doesn’t understand how the Savior chooses.”
Elene scribbled again, “What is the purpose of the Babel Tower?”
Partridge chuckled. “It’s to save the world. My father and I were talking about it. We wondered why so many people doubt the Savior’s true intentions when they join.”
Is it really to save the world?
Elene fell into deep thought. For years, she had lived cautiously, constantly hiding her true feelings. She had seen too much betrayal, too many secrets, bloodshed, and conspiracies. She couldn’t just take things at face value.
But no matter what she believed, one thing was clear: she couldn’t resist.
As if on cue, a powerful surge of energy erupted from deep within her soul.
Elene felt herself growing stronger.
She had been a lower-ranked Crown, but now she easily ascended to the middle-ranked position. And then… the highest-ranked Crown!
Her psychic powers grew exponentially. She could sense things once beyond her reach, and new branches of power sprouted within her.
Elene and Partridge stared at each other, stunned.
“Is this the power of the Babel Tower Savior?” Partridge exclaimed in awe.
