“Why won’t you answer me?” No. Two stared at her as her expression suddenly turned cold.
Maryse remained expressionless, maintaining her silence.
“How dare you ignore me, human?” No. Two grew increasingly angry and snapped her fingers.
A massive golden-red fireball materialized in mid-air, mixed with bursts and booms, rushing toward the little girl’s position without mercy.
Maryse had already taken a step forward, like a graceful dancer, moving and dodging in extreme postures among the falling fireballs.
“Hahahaha, watch out! Avoid getting burned by me! I still want to keep you!” No. Two’s mouth opened widely, no longer the size of a human’s, but more like the bloody maw of a demon or other horrific being!
Maryse remained silent, dodging expressionlessly as the golden-red flames consumed the surroundings in the blink of an eye, and the entire floor became engulfed in smoke and fire.
Many of the black-clad guards in the room cried out, begging No. Two to show mercy and spare them.
But No. Two remained completely indifferent, even relishing in others’ fear.
Suddenly, Maryse found an opening and locked her silvery eyes with No. Two’s!
She knew that would be the end of it!
Psychic Domination!
No. Two’s eyes gradually clouded with confusion…
The next moment, No. Two vanished without a trace, as if she had never existed in this world.
Then she reappeared in the same place, the confusion in her eyes completely gone.
“It’s useless; this level of Psychic Domination can’t defeat me at all.”
No. Two gazed coldly at Maryse, her voice growing hoarse, “I am Balrog from ‘Padma Hell’. Little girl, don’t underestimate me by placing me in the same category as humans.”
Balrog from Padma Hell?
Maryse was slightly stunned. “Wasn’t Padma Hell one of the Outer Worlds? This gal actually came from an Outer World? Why would she infiltrate the Air Alliance’s territory?”
“Provoking us was your greatest mistake; now you must pay the price for ignoring me!”
No. Two’s voice became deep and hoarse. Violent golden-red flames erupted from her mouth, nostrils, and ears, and two hissing flame dragons coalesced around her, their hideous faces chilling.
Maryse looked at the fire dragons that filled almost half the floor and felt tempted to swallow.
‘Is this being planning to blow up the whole building?! That’s too extreme!’
Then, she actually found herself sprinting toward the blonde Balrog!
No! Run!
Maryse was horrified, completely unable to comprehend this action; she still wanted to live!
“You’re approaching me instead of fleeing?”
No. Two’s voice was husky and magnetic as several golden-red fire dragons around her kept expanding and bursting. The bright flames illuminated the entire floor, and all windows shattered under the tremendous impact.
“Die! Human!”
Her words were like hell’s final judgment; the fire dragon engulfed Maryse’s position in an instant, and the security guards hiding in other rooms on the floor screamed as flames consumed them.
“Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha! This is the price for ignoring me! Arrogant human!”
No. Two laughed maniacally, her laughter echoing continuously as if it had its own resonance. The feeling of killing was more delicious than “sex” and “eating”!
Just then, she suddenly spotted a black belt whipping toward her!
Maryse emerged expressionlessly from the only opening in the flames; all her clothes were aflame, but the slight burns were already healing due to her rapid recovery ability.
“What?”
The black belt struck hard against No. Two’s chest, but she felt no pain; instead, the demon’s human form began spinning uncontrollably!
“Damn it! What is this?”
No. Two spun in place incomprehensibly, trying desperately to stop but finding no success. She had to wait for the spinning force to dissipate naturally.
However, Maryse had already reached her with the black belt.
The beautiful little face beneath the white mask pressed close to Balrog’s flaming eyes, unafraid.
[Kill yourself, Balrog.]
Maryse gazed calmly at the demon before her, suddenly realizing the words weren’t spoken with manipulation but with her own voice… She said them with pleasure.
‘Nothing wrong with that; I’ve always wanted to… try getting the nasty ones… to kill themselves!’
Kill, wail! Delight me!
Her silvery eyes revealed excitement and joy!
No. Two was shocked to discover her body moving of its own accord!
The fierce golden-red flame ignited the demonic core deep within her flesh and blood, and her body was instantly engulfed in an inferno!
“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!”
The demon’s mournful and terrifying voice resonated for kilometers!
Outside White Night Pharmaceutica, many onlookers watching the fire were startled by the screams that seemed to linger in their ears!
No. Two’s body turned to black charcoal, a huge black shadow spreading across the burning floor, the shadow’s blood-red pupils staring at Maryse.
“Damn you! Humans! I’ll return!”
The black shadows dissipated, leaving only the flames.
Maryse calmly observed everything around her, with only one word in her mind: “warmth”.
She felt very warm in the flames, especially her legs, which had become particularly heated…
Maryse continued forward through the fire, descending the stairs to the empty seventeenth floor.
There was actually nothing here—no furniture, no rooms, no people.
How had this happened?
She couldn’t understand why the seventeenth floor was completely empty, but her body automatically approached a blank wall.
Then, Maryse passed right through the wall. A brand-new dark blue room lay beyond.
She immediately detected a peculiarly irritating odor; this was clearly a laboratory with numerous culture containers and various unidentifiable alchemical equipment.
The experimenters in white coats clutched their heads and knelt on the ground, desperately begging for mercy.
“We were coerced by the cultists. Don’t kill us, please don’t kill us.”
Maryse yearned to smile; the feeling of controlling people’s lives made her feel powerful.
She walked over to a cabinet full of dark blue potions labeled “Deep Ones Transformation Potion”.
[Overthrow it.]
Maryse commanded the experimenters, their eyes gradually becoming vacant as they rose from the floor and approached. Together, they pushed over the cabinet containing the potions.
All the dark blue potions shattered on the ground, and Maryse calmly stated, “Mission accomplished.”
She could move!
Maryse, covered in sweat, exhaled deeply and immediately ran to find paper towels to dry herself, then realized the black mist hadn’t arrived as expected.
“What? Do I still have free time?”
She felt no fear of the fire downstairs but became interested in exploring the laboratory, which covered an extensive area.
When Maryse reached a special altar deep within the room, her pupils instantly dilated, trembling.
The altar housed a massive black sphere, and around its edge were several terrifying monsters, like satellites.
The Chaos Star!
Maryse couldn’t bear to look; she lowered her head but then trembled and covered her mouth.
Corpses were piled upon the altar. Most displayed fish-like features, apparently all failed experiments.
The waste had been placed here as an offering to the Chaos Star.
Some of the bodies appeared to be girls even younger than Maryse’s physical age.
‘Why?’ Maryse, unlike Mu Ling, was not a true warrior and could not accept the scene before her!
Countless terrified faces and the overwhelming stench of corpses triggered sudden, violent nausea in her stomach.
She doubled over and tried to vomit but could only dry heave, having eaten nothing that day.
Maryse dry heaved for a long time, finally managing to calm down after several minutes. Then she fell into a profound silence.
“You did all of this? Were you truly coerced?”
She released the Psychic Domination, her voice trembling as she questioned the experimenters following behind her.
The experimenters shook their heads repeatedly, many falling to their knees.
“No! We were just coerced by Black Star; there’s no way anyone can oppose those cultists in this situation, please let us go!”
“My family awaits me; please spare me—my son is only three years old, and his birthday is in a few days!”
“Thank you for saving us, thank you, thank you! We’re leaving right now and will never tell anyone we’ve seen you!”
Maryse nodded calmly and gently, with a slight hint of pleasure. “Your hearts are exposed.”
The experimenters all froze.
[I command you, kill yourselves.]
For the first time in her life, she felt particularly grateful for this ability.
It spared her from becoming mired in judgment.
—
“New level completed, Babel Tower Legendary Points increased by 80.”
“Level reward: 100 Energy Points have been earned.”
From his seat in the office, Bai Yan calmly reviewed his new awards and contemplated them before deciding to invest them in constructing a new facility.
It was one of the most crucial facilities besides the Recovery Spring.
It would serve not only as a preparation facility for the “resurrection” mechanism but also as the Savior’s means of summoning Babel Tower operators.
Yes, summoning.
If conducted as a group, it could also function as a meeting.
No proper organization could escape meetings, and Babel Tower was no exception.
To foster cohesion among organization members, the Savior could summon core operators at will to discuss matters of salvation.
In-game, this manifested as additional options for the player to choose from when dealing with core operator matters.
But Bai Yan suspected this round’s “summoning” would manifest differently.
Perhaps he would meet the core operators directly.
Though it required two existing constructions, Bai Yan hadn’t built it immediately.
But the time had come.
Bai Yan felt the need to establish more direct connections with the core operators. They weren’t merely fictional characters but living people.
He should prepare for salvation beyond the game level; it would be too presumptuous to rely solely on it.
“The Temple of Babel Tower.”
Bai Yan invested 100 points and chose the fifth floor of Babel Tower to construct the “Temple of Babel Tower”.
A small golden palace icon quickly appeared on Babel Tower’s pixel map.
He clicked the Babel Tower temple icon, and two options appeared.
“Upgrade the temple”, “Summon the operator”.
“The option for the Savior to summon operators in-game, translated to reality… Would I meet them in person?”
Bai Yan remained silent briefly, retrieved a prepared white mask, and placed it on his face.
Then, he moved the “Disguise Mask” from his phone’s item bar to “the Savior” to equip it.
“If I can enter Babel Tower myself through the summoning option, my hypothesis is correct. Presumably, following the same principle, this mask should materialize on my face simultaneously.”
After making preparations, Bai Yan reached out and selected the “summon operator” option.
The next moment, everything around him collapsed, all elements disintegrating and finally reconstructing into a new form.
Bai Yan entered the Babel Tower.
