Chapter 428: Big Brother!
After finishing his words, Alan stood still, waiting for a response or perhaps an attack from the other party. But Li Mo remained silent, neither speaking nor making any move.
He simply stood there in complete stillness.
What was Li Mo doing?
He was waiting—waiting for Alan to make the first move so he could respond accordingly with a counterstrike.
The rules of the ‘Deep Sea’ were not rigid, and they allowed for a degree of humanity. As long as a crime-hunter was attacked, they were within their rights to defend themselves, and self-defense was nearly unlimited.
Thus, Li Mo remained calm and silent, waiting for the other party to act.
However, Alan did not attack either. He had no intention of killing anyone. Alan was aware that many righteous individuals were returning to Tatsumi City, and he didn’t want to provoke unnecessary violence. He believed that such matters could be resolved peacefully.
In truth, deep down, he still hoped for a peaceful resolution.
And so, a strange scene unfolded. The two stood motionless, facing each other, as if frozen in time.
Xiao Guo watched them in confusion, then alternated her gaze between them, clearly baffled.
“Big brother! Big brother! Why are you both just standing there like that? Are you both silly?” she asked, her voice filled with innocent sincerity.
Li Mo remained silent, not feeling the need to respond.
“Come over here! It’s dangerous over there!” Alan urged, his voice laced with concern. He reached out toward Xiao Guo, feeling uneasy that the situation could turn dangerous if Li Mo decided to act. He had to protect her.
Li Mo was a powerful man, and while Alan knew that Li Mo might not be able to uncover the true essence of souls as quickly as he could, the difference between them wasn’t too significant. Still, with potential apocalyptic forces at play, Alan wasn’t sure of his chances.
So, caution and vigilance filled him as he watched the situation unfold.
But an unexpected turn of events occurred.
“I won’t go there! You are a bad person!” Xiao Guo suddenly shouted, hiding behind Li Mo.
Alan was stunned. How could she think he was a bad person?
“This little girl doesn’t know right from wrong,” Alan thought to himself, baffled by the accusation.
“I’m not a bad person! I’m a good person! I want to protect you!” Alan quickly explained, but Xiao Guo was not having any of it.
“I won’t listen! I won’t listen! I won’t listen!” she cried out stubbornly.
Now Alan was left speechless, unsure of how to handle the situation.
“No hitting,” Li Mo murmured, shaking his head as he moved forward, still holding Xiao Guo.
Xiao Guo kept her gaze fixed on Alan, her large, watery eyes filled with suspicion.
“Stop!” Alan called out. There was no way he would let Li Mo take the little girl away without a fight. Even if Li Mo wasn’t harming her now, Alan couldn’t shake the fear that he might take her somewhere dangerous.
He couldn’t let this man take her away—there were too many unknowns. Alan was under strict orders from Babel Tower and Mr. Xia to protect everyone on the list, and he could not ignore them.
And so, Alan made up his mind. It was time to act.
He decided to unleash his magic first, hoping to see the future through his “Future Vision.”
The INT signal told Alan that his enemy’s speed and movements were extraordinarily fast. Without activating a “Future Vision BUFF,” Alan would be at a serious disadvantage.
Instead of attacking Li Mo directly, Alan activated the vision, expecting to see a glimpse of what was to come. And there, amidst the vision, something caught his attention—a new figure was about to appear and grab the little girl in the middle of the confrontation.
“Who?” Alan shouted, reacting quickly by unleashing the Fire that Burns Everything.
The black flames erupted, sending a wave of despair as they swept across the area. Out of the corner, a small figure dashed forward, wailing.
“Doomsday race!” Alan muttered, his eyes narrowing.
The flames revealed the invisible enemy, and Alan’s heart sank as he recognized the creature. It was one of the notorious Doomsday Race members from the multiverse.
Li Mo too acknowledged the presence of the enemy, recognizing the flames for what they were—an ability of the Lord of Ashes.
Suddenly, Alan realized the scale of the threat. There were many more of these creatures lurking around them, their numbers seemingly endless. And they were in an invisible state, making them even harder to detect.
“So many!” Alan gasped, now fully aware of the magnitude of the danger.
Soon, he saw the enemy clones approach. These beings, despite not being the true forms, were still formidable. The Doomsday Race’s ability to create so many clones was impressive.
Without hesitation, Alan set fire to the clones one by one, sending them screaming in agony as the black flames engulfed them.
Li Mo, meanwhile, remained silent. He drew his gleaming black cross sword and swung it forward. Waves of force surged through the air, cutting through the clones effortlessly.
The combined attacks of Alan and Li Mo proved overwhelming, and within minutes, the clones were wiped out.
But the true form of the enemy still remained hidden, and it took some time before it revealed itself. While Alan and Li Mo stayed on high alert, watching for the enemy’s next move, Xiao Guo suddenly had an epiphany.
She smiled brightly and held up her hands. “I get it now! You two are actually friends! No wonder you both act so strange and silly.”
“Friends?” Alan chuckled, amused by her interpretation, but he understood that Xiao Guo held no malice toward him. The realization made him feel a bit better.
“I still need her to go to the Demon Hunt Agency,” Alan said to Li Mo in a softer tone. “She’ll be truly safe there. Please understand. It’s for her own protection.”
Li Mo was silent for a moment before replying, “She is searching for her mother.”
His five words felt like a tremendous effort for him to speak.
Xiao Guo immediately began to sob, her face crumpling with sadness. “Xiao Guo wants to find her mommy. Mommy’s missing, and I get scared when I can’t see her… I don’t want mommy to cry or be afraid.”
“Don’t worry,” Alan reassured her gently, “We will help you find your mommy.”
He turned back to Li Mo, his tone softening. “Wandering around Tatsumi City won’t help us find her. But with the Demon Hunt Agency’s help, we can find her much quicker.”
“Please,” Alan added, “Hand her over to us.”
After a long pause, Li Mo finally nodded, his consent given reluctantly. “Alright.”
Xiao Guo looked up at Li Mo with teary eyes, asking, “Big brother, are you going to leave Xiao Guo behind? I don’t even know your name.”
Li Mo shook his head but didn’t offer a response.
Alan observed Li Mo for a moment, feeling something odd stir within him. He was almost perfect in his appearance, and Alan couldn’t help but realize he had seen someone like him before—someone whose beauty surpassed all others.
He then muttered, “The Steel Throne deceived you. It has been completely corrupted by the Outer God.”
Li Mo remained silent, his expression unreadable.
“The ‘key’ you’re after isn’t to save the Steel Throne, but to unleash the Outer God… the Black Abyss Deep Sea!” Alan continued, his voice heavy with the weight of the truth.
He paused for a moment before adding, “I will take her now. If you don’t want trouble, go protect the innocent.”
“No,” Li Mo replied firmly, shaking his head.
Alan froze, taken aback by Li Mo’s refusal. The answer left him unsure of how to proceed.
“I am sleeping,” Li Mo declared with absolute seriousness.
Meanwhile, at the White Tower of the Demon Hunt General Agency…
The tower now stood as a towering symbol of Tatsumi City, protecting its people and overseeing all that transpired.
Within the tower, over five hundred individuals had gathered—those whose names appeared on the list. Night Watchers kept vigilant guard, ensuring that the White Tower remained safe from any enemy attack.
But there was a far greater force within the tower than any of them could muster.
“World,” Mr. Xia sat comfortably in the director’s office, sipping his tea with an air of calm.
Only one extraordinary being could guarantee the White Tower’s safety under such conditions.
Bai Yan entered the office with a smile, greeting Mr. Xia and the director of the Demon Hunt General Agency, Austin.
Without delay, Bai Yan spoke. “Next, I will investigate the more than five hundred individuals and find the key.”
