Chapter 425: The Siege
Gentle drizzle fell upon every corner of Tatsumi City, cleansing the sins within one’s soul.
“Boom!”
The gas tank of a car exploded, sending flames soaring into the sky along the main street of Tatsumi City.
A remarkably strong and sturdy figure descended from the sky, resembling solid rock. He glanced at the terrified crowd and rushed towards a middle school girl, frozen in fear.
“It’s you!” the giant figure of rock shouted.
This extraordinary being, made entirely of rock, possessed innate physical strength, and his size had been steadily increasing as he grew stronger. At this moment, he stood over three meters tall.
The rock man charged towards the middle school girl, laughing wildly. The girl trembled, paralyzed with fear, unsure of what to do, and unaware of why he was coming for her.
The reason was simple—she was one of over a thousand people whose soul fluctuations seemed to suggest they “knew something.” They were the ones with the possibility of winning the “first prize.”
The rock giant chuckled as he closed in, now just a few meters from the girl, his hand reaching toward her.
Although he lacked the ability to decipher souls, he possessed a relic capable of doing so. His intent was clear—to capture her, shatter her soul, and decode its secrets.
It seemed that Tatsumi City had anticipated this situation. They had already screened the incoming individuals, many of whom possessed soul-based abilities and artifacts.
“Ah!”
The middle school girl screamed, closing her eyes in terror as her umbrella slipped from her hands, bracing for what she thought would be her demise.
But the expected moment never came.
The towering rock giant suddenly froze, unable to move a single inch, his confusion growing.
An invisible force had seized him.
“Piggy, in front of my mighty power, your muscles are nothing.”
Before she even realized it, Maryse found herself standing next to the middle school girl, lollipop still in her mouth and a look of disdain on her face.
The giant rock man, now fully under Maryse’s control, was unable to move. He had no idea what had happened.
“End your life, you worthless being,” Maryse ordered coolly.
Without hesitation, she covered the girl’s eyes, not wanting her to witness the gruesome scene.
The controlled superhuman let out a cry and, in a twisted turn of events, crushed his own neck with his bare hands.
“Wow, you are really strong!” Maryse remarked nonchalantly, licking her lollipop, her face devoid of expression as raindrops dotted her delicate cheeks.
“These people are suddenly going mad, causing chaos and killing all around Tatsumi City. I wonder why… So strange,” she muttered to herself.
In the city, a frenzy had erupted among those with extraordinary abilities. They were going mad, murdering at will. The Imperial Guards and Night Watchers had been mobilized, a curfew was imposed, and citizens were urged to stay indoors.
On the pedestrian street, those caught in a massive traffic jam became unfortunate victims of these berserk superhumans.
Maryse, her heart finally calmed after her escape, trembled as she ran, too frightened to even thank the middle school girl.
Then, a voice echoed in her heart.
It’s not surprising, because all of us want to be the first to ‘redeem’ and claim the special prize promised by His Majesty the Steel Throne… After all, no one knows if only one person will fulfill their wish, or if everyone will have a chance…
Maryse turned, her gaze narrowing as she spotted a figure nearby.
A black-robed ancient dragon descendant, covered in scales from head to toe, holding a staff, stared directly at her.
“Only you, an extraordinary being who has become a ruler, dare to challenge me?” Maryse smiled confidently.
“I am now a bona fide Apocalypse! A demigod!” she thought proudly.
“Of course not,” the old dragon descendant sneered. “The power of the Apocalypse is so overwhelming it makes me want to bow, but our ultimate goal isn’t just to defeat you.”
Get ready!
Maryse was momentarily startled as the voice reached her mind. It was the middle school girl again.
Why? What made this girl so important?
Maryse wasn’t sure, but one thing was clear—she couldn’t let her enemies succeed.
As she turned, the ground beneath her feet began to tremble.
Soon, a massive steel robot, towering over ten meters tall, emerged from deep underground.
The robot extended mechanical tentacles, reaching out to the middle school girl, who was still fleeing.
Robot? Maryse’s heart tightened. Her telepathic powers were useless against machines.
No wonder she hadn’t heard any thoughts.
The robot had no mind of its own.
“Stop!” Maryse shouted, hurling a coin from her hand and activating her “Deep Red – Divine Punishment.” With blinding speed, the coin struck the robot’s tentacle, sending it veering off course.
The mechanical arm failed to grab the girl.
Before it could recover, the robot lost control, toppling and rolling toward her.
“Ah!” the middle school girl screamed, terrified of the giant machine crashing toward her.
Maryse rushed to help, but her body froze in place.
The ancient dragon descendant’s scepter was glowing with an eerie green light, controlling her every movement.
Civilization-level Relic? Maryse thought in surprise.
The ancient dragon descendant had used the Relic to seize control of her body. Her shadow struggled, pulled toward the green light.
“BOOM!”
Before the robot could fall completely, a girl in a sunhat appeared, lifting the massive machine single-handedly.
The middle school girl stared in disbelief, but the newcomer spoke calmly, “Don’t worry, there’s nothing to fear.”
Yuling, the ancient dragon descendant, then turned to the others.
“Why are you hesitating, Yuling? Kill her now! I can use magic to take her soul. There’s no need for mercy.”
“But I don’t want to harm the innocent,” Yuling replied with a serious expression, shaking her head.
“Fly!”
Maryse, fueled by anger, broke free from the Relic’s control. She summoned a black magic wand and pointed it at Yuling. In an instant, Yuling was flung away by an invisible, powerful force.
Yuling attempted to use her “Flow of the Heart” technique, but her body wouldn’t obey. She couldn’t perform the required ritual.
“Boom!”
Yuling was sent flying, crashing hundreds of meters into an empty department store.
“Damn, she’s stronger when angry!” the ancient dragon descendant murmured, surprised.
The Relic’s control was effortlessly broken. This was the true power of an Apocalypse-level warrior!
“Go away and never come back!” Maryse yelled, unleashing her fury. The ground around her lifted, hurling itself toward the ancient dragon descendant.
The dragon descendant quickly cast a defensive spell, but it was overrun by a barrage of stones.
Then, hidden robots in the sky took aim at Maryse and the middle school girl, firing numerous miniature missiles.
In the blink of an eye, Yuling transformed into a gust of wind, dashing towards Maryse.
“Flow of Heart – Wind.”
Her movements became a blur, granting her near-immunity to most attacks and incredible speed.
“Go away!” Maryse shouted, her anger giving rise to a powerful aura that surged from her soul. Fairy tale magic escalated to chaotic magic, soaring to new heights.
Yuling, overwhelmed, was knocked back by a barrage of missiles. Gripping her teeth, she steadied herself, ready to retaliate.
“Hurry, retreat! The Babel Tower reinforcements are here!” a voice crackled through Yuling’s headphones.
She froze, sensing a terrible threat.
Malice… she thought.
Yuling blinked in realization—the woman had arrived!
The ancient dragon’s aura vanished, signaling that the enemy had fled.
A glowing halo appeared behind Yuling, leading her back to the masked woman’s realm.
“This is…” Yuling hesitated, but before she could move, her body froze.
The entire world froze with her.
A blade sliced through.
Time resumed.
Yuling gasped in pain as the life-saving halo vanished, and an agonizing pain surged from her lower body.
“Ah!” she cried out in agony, her legs severed at the roots, blood pouring out like a fountain.
Tears mixed with rainwater as she collapsed, wracked with unimaginable pain.
“Why is this happening? Am I going to die?”
Desperate, she begged for help, but it was too late.
Mu Ling stood before Maryse, watching the exhausted half-elf girl. She nodded.
“I’m sorry, I was late,” Mu Ling said. “There were too many problems to handle… These invaders deserve to perish.”
“It’s okay,” Maryse smiled weakly, her face pale. “The middle school girl is safe, that’s all that matters.”
“We must take her away soon. I can feel that she’s important,” Mu Ling added.
The rain splashed against Yuling’s face as she crawled in fear, trying to escape.
In her despair, she saw the Hound of Babel Tower standing in front of her.
“Please, don’t kill me!” she begged.
Plop.
A blade pierced her shoulder, sinking deep into her bone, and she cried out in agony once more.
Mu Ling, emotionless, said, “I’ve tried to reason with you. But you destroyed my home and nearly killed my loved ones… Now, you bring destruction to this city.”
Yuling’s emotions spiraled—fear, confusion, sorrow, and hopelessness overwhelmed her.
“I… I didn’t mean it…” she sobbed, pleading.
Mu Ling remained silent.
Maryse, growing impatient, said, “Since you’ve softened, don’t kill her. I checked her memories—she hasn’t been indiscriminately killing. She’s just been brainwashed by a sense of justice.”
Mu Ling nodded and sheathed her sword.
“This is your last warning. Get away from here, hide, and go home.”
Maryse and Mu Ling turned and left, leaving Yuling to her fate.
Yuling, in pain, used the Flow of the Heart to reconnect her broken legs, gathering whatever strength she had left. But she could only curl up on the ground, tears streaming down her face.
“Mom, I’m so scared… I want to go home…”
Far on the outskirts of Tatsumi
City, above the streets, a black
glow blossomed in the air.
Space twisted and warped,
flickering as chaos gathered.
Strange creatures emerged out
of thin air, one after another.
A gigantic black beetle, the
size of a mountain, rose from
underground, its back adorned
with a menacing face.
The face on the beetle grinned,
saying, “The appetizers have
arrived; now it’s our turn.
Thanks to the Steel Throne for
providing so many cannon
fodder.”
The Nullify and Abyssal setups
were gone, leaving behind
coordinates to the World of
Noah. The Doomsday Race
had paid a steep price, forcing
their way into this world.
As the bizarre creatures
flooded Tatsumi City, the
Doomsday Race, an alliance of
beings from across
multiverses, had arrived.
Among them, powerful beings
from the Doomsday Race,
including the infamous “Three
Kings,” emerged. Each one
possessed strength beyond
that of a Crown, with three of
them even reaching
Apocalypse levels.
One of them, the Black
Mountain beetle, towered over
all.
The other two were the
Devotee, a bandaged elf
maiden, and the Demon of the
Skies, an amorphous mass of
black liquid, resting inside a
crystal jar.
Together, they followed the will
of the hundred-armed giant
“Nullify,” whose chaotic power
could not be stopped.
The Doomsday Race was here,
and nothing could prevent the
fall of Tatsumi City. The Black
Abyss Deep Sea would soon
be liberated.
The apocalypse was at hand.
