“White Night Pharmaceutica… another name I’ve heard of.”
Most NPCs, buildings, and powers in the complex Babel Tower didn’t leave a deep impression on Bai Yan, but White Night Pharmaceutica was different.
It was a company that manufactured drugs for neurological conditions. In the background story, it was so renowned that Bai Yan even knew it in the real world — White Night Pharmaceutica in Tatsumi City.
Initially, Bai Yan thought that “White Night” in the game was merely using the same name to capitalize on the celebrated company in reality.
Now it appeared that they were indeed the same company.
“The White Night in the game always stirs up trouble. It either creates cyborgs or produces elixirs…”
Although he had only achieved the True End once, Bai Yan had experienced multiple plots in his past bad end playthroughs.
He couldn’t guess which plot line White Night Pharmaceutica would choose this time, or to be more precise, in reality…
He selected Psychic Dancer to begin the second level of the event mission.
“White Night Pharmaceutica.”
Her pixelated picture appeared on the screen again. It was dusk, the devil’s hour mentioned in countless legends.
In the dim light, Psychic Dancer’s small pixel figure emerged from the alley.
“Tap, tap, tap…” the same sound effect played again as the subtitles appeared on the screen.
“Valuable information from Nightsaber: White Night Pharmaceutica is conducting shady deals with the Black Star Faction.”
“Black Star Faction, a Cult with the ultimate goal of letting Outer Gods invade this world. It’s the Babel Tower’s responsibility to destroy it.”
The same emotionless female mechanical voice continued.
Bai Yan stared at the screen, not even blinking for fear of missing any information.
In the lower right corner of the subtitle was Psychic Dancer’s avatar, indicating these were her lines.
Next, the graphical rendering of the game shifted.
The screen rotated to portrait mode. Bai Yan could see the building’s structure from the first to third floors, while the floors above remained temporarily invisible.
Bai Yan recalled that this White Night building had seventeen floors in real life. The game wouldn’t require him to beat seventeen levels to complete the mission… right?
Psychic Dancer’s pixel figure stood on the first floor. She needed to avoid enemy attention and use her superpower to advance upstairs.
Bai Yan muttered, “Clear out each floor. I tried this in the previous playthrough of a bad end, but I didn’t use Psychic Dancer then.”
Last time, he had chosen Cybertyrant and completed the level as if it were the simplest thing in the world.
On the first floor, men in black patrolled among numerous crates.
By pushing crates, Psychic Dancer could block the guards’ line of sight. Various colored mushrooms contained in some crates provided her with different buffs.
Bai Yan guided the girl upstairs.
Psychic Dancer pushed the crates, blocked the guards’ sight, and consumed mushrooms to increase her movement speed.
After the guards turned around, Bai Yan had Psychic Dancer release her special skill — Psychic Domination.
Naturally, he had other skills and tools available, such as the Invisible Cloak of Hermes, Sacred Rune Athena, and Rotating Copperhead Belt.
Smoothly, Psychic Dancer ascended to the second floor.
Guards on the second floor were stationed right at the door. Bai Yan had to utilize the Invisible Cloak.
The next moment, Psychic Dancer’s pixel figure gradually blurred. A countdown timer appeared above her head.
Bai Yan dared not waste time. He immediately directed her to jump over the guards’ heads.
“Wait, in real life, her body is even weaker than an ordinary person. How can she perform this move…?”
As before, many men in black guarded the third floor.
Bai Yan unleashed the power of Sacred Rune Athena!
Its effect was simple yet spectacular… Repeat the last used power immediately!
Though it seemed mediocre, knowing how to use it required skill.
For instance, you might only get three wishes from a genie. However, with Athena’s power, you could make six wishes!
Psychic Dancer’s figure blurred again. She cleared this floor safely.
The fourth floor had no guards. Instead, numerous red lasers moved up and down across the entire level.
“This would have been easy with Cybertyrant.”
“Fine. Time to test my skills!”
Taking a deep breath, Bai Yan resolved to rely on his micro-controlling abilities. He actually wanted to use Power Possession, but the game had warned against it.
Why?
Bai Yan couldn’t understand for now. He only knew he was forbidden to overcome everything with Power Possession like a cheater.
He directed Psychic Dancer to rush toward the moving lasers while attempting to weave through them.
Bai Yan didn’t realize what he had triggered. With a “Ding,” the alarm sounded throughout the building.
“Oh no.”
Previously, when Bai Yan had chosen Cybertyrant, controlling the system had been so simple that no alarm had activated.
Suddenly, more laser beams activated. Psychic Dancer could do nothing before being reduced to ashes.
“It hurts… Mother… Mother…”
“How can a small pile of ashes still leave last words?” Bai Yan commented sarcastically. He found the game screen had reset to the first floor.
“There’s still time.”
He glanced at the clock, knowing he must complete the mission within a few hours. Otherwise, Psychic Dancer would perish in reality.
Though he had never met her in person or spoken with her, Bai Yan didn’t want her to experience the pain and despair of death.
After some time, Psychic Dancer again reached the fourth floor.
Still, her fate remained unchanged.
The alarm… laser grid… ashes’ last words…
“The key point is the alarm. She must have been discovered before reaching upstairs, so she was eliminated indiscriminately once she reached the fourth floor.”
Bai Yan contemplated briefly. This time, he didn’t focus solely on ascending stairs but began to explore each floor thoroughly.
Whatever he encountered, he had Psychic Dancer interact with it.
He didn’t even try to avoid the guards in black, allowing Psychic Dancer to be discovered!
Bai Yan wouldn’t wait helplessly for the end. He selected the Rotating Copperhead Belt tool. Anyone struck by it would spin uncontrollably.
Psychic Dancer cut through the guards with the belt. As she ran and whipped, the men in black began to rotate.
The scene was rather… amusing.
Bai Yan discovered the guards were actually weak, allowing Psychic Dancer to advance to the third floor.
Finally, she confronted the boss — a woman with long blonde hair wearing a white suit.
“Provoking us was your gravest mistake.”
The woman stood sideways and snapped her fingers. Several pixel flames materialized in the air, attacking Psychic Dancer.
Bai Yan swiftly maneuvered Psychic Dancer to evade. As fireballs crashed down continuously, he attempted to use Psychic Domination on the boss.
“Useless!” declared the woman, her figure dissolving instantly.
The next second, she reappeared in the same spot, showing no sign of mental control.
It seemed she could “refresh” herself to remove debuffs. Bai Yan could roughly understand the concept of her ability.
The woman snapped both hands’ fingers once more. Fireballs erupted into a dragon-like shape and began pursuing Psychic Dancer.
Bai Yan guided Psychic Dancer to dodge the relentless fire dragon. Eventually, he found an opportunity to approach the woman.
Psychic Dancer wielded the Copperhead Belt again. Despite being the boss, the woman failed to resist and immediately began spinning!
‘Good, close enough.’
When Psychic Dancer drew near her opponent, the Mind Control effect would strengthen.
“Psychic Domination!” Bai Yan executed the ability decisively.
This time it succeeded, so he issued the order without hesitation.
“Suicide.”
The boss, who had finally stopped rotating, became enraged.
“Damn… I’ll return!”
She snapped her fingers and burst into flames. Shrieking in agony, her body crumbled to ashes.
A dark room appeared beside her remains, containing a red button.
Though Bai Yan didn’t know its purpose or whether pressing it might trigger an explosion, he still directed Psychic Dancer to push the button.
Instantly, all lasers on the fourth floor vanished.
‘Excellent! I succeeded!’
Bai Yan guided Psychic Dancer to the fifth floor.
There stood numerous experimental facilities and monster corpses, along with frightened experimenters in lab coats.
Some bottles in the cabinets bore labels reading, “Transformation Potion of The Deep Ones.”
It became clear that Black Star Faction had conspired with the Augustus family. They were mass-producing the Transformation Potion of Deep Ones.
Bai Yan immediately grasped the current plot line. ‘They were certainly planning to attack Tatsumi City, but unfortunately they encountered me…’
Then he noticed something odd.
“Wait a minute… this was supposed to be a stealth mission. How did I complete it using force?”
“Never mind. Save the game.”
“Irena, let’s play another round!”
On the large bed in her room, Maryse, wearing a baby pink dress, pouted while shaking Irena’s arm.
“I haven’t won once! You’ve been cheating with your power during the game. I refuse to play anymore!”
Irena, in her maid outfit, angrily threw the controller. She had been defeated a dozen times already!
“No, I didn’t use my power.”
Maryse gazed at Irena sincerely. The latter hesitated slightly.
“You’re just inexperienced,” she added.
Irena leaped from the bed, clenching her fists, “No way! You must let me play again!”
“Hahaha, wait a moment. I need to visit the bathroom.”
Maryse hopped off her large pink bed, thoroughly pleased.
In truth, she had cheated using her power. After all, she was her clan’s secret weapon.
Just as Maryse approached the bathroom door, she suddenly lost control of her body again.
She was terrified.
She stood within reaching distance of the bathroom.
But her body turned around!
‘Wait! I need to use the bathroom! Don’t send me on a mission now!’
‘Help!’
