Chapter 405: “The Lord of Fear” Hedoras!
High above in the underground, at the “ceiling,” an immense aura of fear was steadily gathering.
Both Bai Yan and Mu Ling could sense a mighty force about to descend—a presence so terrifying that Ming, the weakest demigod, could not compare. This was something even more dreadful.
In the skies, a dark vortex continued to expand, growing larger and darker. The power it radiated was immense, almost beyond comprehension.
“What… what is that?”
Mu Ling took a deep breath, her mind teetering on the brink of despair. Yet, despite the terror, she kept her gaze firmly fixed on the ominous sky.
At that moment, Bai Yan reached out and grasped her arm, his lips curling into a faint smile.
Even now, he managed to smile.
“Don’t be afraid,” he said, his voice calm and steady. “We will not lose. We will not die here.”
Mu Ling glanced at Bai Yan—the senior she deeply respected—and nodded resolutely.
“I’ve always believed that we are not the strongest beings in the multiverse,” she said. “Against a terrifying Outer God, we are no more than strong ants. But with the guidance of the Savior, we can still fill the dark world with hope.”
Taking a deep breath, she continued, her tone firm, “Even the Outer God cannot destroy our future!”
“Yes. Believe in the Savior,” Bai Yan said quietly.
His voice was calm, yet imbued with unshakable conviction as he went on:
“The Savior, who carries the hopes of all, will lead the world out of despair and fear, bringing light and hope. He will respond to those who have unwavering faith in him. He will not let people cry or despair any longer. No matter what difficulties or obstacles arise, he will keep moving forward.”
Bai Yan’s words resonated with determination and emotion.
Though he had not yet reached the Apocalypse, in that moment, he understood what his path to the Apocalypse would be.
At first, he had thought he was the one changing the people of the Babel Tower.
But now, he realized the truth:
Their faith had transformed them—and him.
Suddenly, an enormous figure materialized in the sky, casting a massive shadow over everything below.
It was Hedoras—the high-ranking Spawn who served the Outer God, Black Abyss Deep Sea.
Known as the “Lord of Fear,” Hedoras was a harbinger of despair, a destroyer of civilizations, and a being feared by countless worlds.
Hedoras was a colossal mass of darkness, resembling a black cloud of mist stretching at least a kilometer wide.
Within the swirling mist, countless specters twisted and writhed in agony, their faces contorted with monstrous expressions of despair. The screams, wails, and cries emanating from the mist echoed like a never-ending nightmare.
Any creature touched by Hedoras was instantly consumed by overwhelming fear, their souls drained away by its horrifying power.
The black mist surged toward the ground, its speed unstoppable.
If left unchecked, it would consume every being in the underworld, draining their souls and leaving nothing but lifeless husks in its wake.
But Bai Yan felt no fear.
He took a deep breath, raised the Gorgeous Moonshine in his hand, and soared into the sky.
He was fearless—completely immune to fear, curses, or other negative influences. In simple terms, most harmful effects had no impact on him.
And because of that, he was the only one qualified to challenge this monstrous entity.
Mu Ling watched as Bai Yan’s figure ascended into the dark sea of clouds.
She wanted to follow him, to fight alongside him.
But before she could move, a deafening roar erupted from within the black clouds.
The dark mist scattered violently, spreading in all directions.
Mu Ling instinctively raised her weapon to shield herself.
Her chest heaved as her soul trembled with fear.
The oppressive power of the Lord of Fear was overwhelming—standing upright was a monumental effort.
I can’t fall! she told herself.
If she faltered here, her soul would be drained by Hedoras.
With iron willpower, Mu Ling gritted her teeth and held on.
Above, the battle raged on.
Powerful bursts of energy erupted from the black clouds, illuminating the darkness.
Though Mu Ling couldn’t see what was happening, she could feel it—Bai Yan was fighting an intense, grueling battle.
Keep going, she whispered to herself.
Time seemed to stretch endlessly.
Eventually, the black sea of clouds began to dissipate.
The haunting wails and screams faded, vanishing into silence.
The world returned to its original state.
“Is it over?”
She, drenched in sweat from head to toe, saw that man again.
Bai Yan sat on the ground, visibly exhausted, holding the fading blade of moonlight in his hand. He smiled as he looked at the young girl, just as he had silently watched her countless times before.
He spoke calmly, “All the problems have been resolved. You’re free to do what you need to do now—free the slaves in Ironcore Fortress.”
“Thank you,” Mu Ling said once more, her gratitude sincere. But instead of leaving immediately, she approached to check on the elder Profligate.
Mu Ling waited until she was certain he wasn’t injured before deciding to leave.
“Senior Profligate, please wait for me here. It will probably take some time.”
“Alright, I understand,” Bai Yan replied.
As Mu Ling walked away, Bai Yan let out a sigh.
“She’s actually quite a thoughtful girl,” he murmured.
Bai Yan was truly worn out. His previous opponent had been incredibly powerful. Even though he was immune to the abilities of Herados, the “Lord of Fear,” the battle had been grueling.
The endless specters had continuously drained his spiritual energy with each attack. An ordinary superhuman would have perished instantly, and even a typical demigod wouldn’t have survived.
But Bai Yan possessed “Infinity.”
His spiritual energy replenished endlessly. Without this power, he would have been worn down and defeated. But thanks to “Infinity,” he was Herados’s perfect nemesis.
Once Mu Ling was out of sight, Bai Yan finally lowered his guard, collapsing onto the ground to slowly regain his strength.
“Ah… This situation feels like an ending, yet it reveals even more problems.”
The restlessness of “Nullify” and the secrets concealed by the Leaf King weighed heavily on Bai Yan’s mind.
He waited a long time, resting and even snacking a little before Mu Ling finally returned from the distance.
Bai Yan immediately stood up from the Deep Blue World and dusted himself off.
“How did it go?” he asked.
“I don’t know what the future holds for those liberated slaves,” Mu Ling replied, her voice tinged with sadness. She shook her head. “In truth, all I can do is eliminate the Doomsday Race. I can’t do more for the slaves.
“They were trapped in a deep abyss, unable to experience true safety and freedom.”
Bai Yan thought for a moment before asking, “Do you want to take them to the World of Noah?”
Mu Ling fell silent again. This time, her pause was longer, but eventually, she shook her head.
“I’m just a crime-hunter,” she said, her gaze steady as she met Bai Yan’s eyes. “My purpose is to protect the world and drive away evil. Leading thousands of slaves to build a home isn’t something I’m suited for.”
“Yes,” she repeated softly.
Mu Ling was simply a crime-hunter. Unlike Ganis, the Scarlet Moon, or Aurora, she had never been a leader—neither in the past, the future, nor ever.
Her duty was to protect the innocent and sever wicked souls. From the very beginning, her task had always been the simplest and purest of missions.
“Alright, let’s go back,” Bai Yan said with a smile.
He took out the “Black Remnant” and extended his arm, intending for Mu Ling to hold onto it.
But Mu Ling tilted her head slightly and explained earnestly, “There’s no need for us to stick together anymore as we return to the World of Noah.”
“Um, okay,” Bai Yan said, withdrawing his arm, a hint of sulkiness creeping into his expression.
Let’s go home, Mu Ling.

Meanwhile.
Inside the Babel Tower, Bai Yan’s face lit up with excitement. A new notification for the “Babel Tower” game had just appeared on his phone screen.
Mission accomplished!
“Yes! I can summon again—this is great!”
The rewards for missions in the Otherworld were substantial. During this time, Bai Yan had accumulated another thousand Source Energy Points.
He decided to start with a ten-pull summon in “Different Dimensions” and then follow up with another ten-pull in “Fate.”
“No matter if it’s a witch or an innocent singer… At least one of you, step forward. I really need some support—a healer, maybe… Just don’t come too close to me,” Bai Yan muttered to himself.
Ahead of him, a summon awaited.
So, a ten-pull summon is always useful!
