Chapter 366: The Different People of Babel Tower
Maryse’s praise didn’t really matter to Bai Yan; it was her thoughts that truly fascinated him.
Maryse instinctively wanted to dodge the head pat, but she forced herself to endure it, allowing the warm palm to stroke her silky golden hair.
Meanwhile, she glanced at the nearby Scarlet… big mosquito, feeling a tiny spark of pride within.
The Scarlet Moon, however, merely cast them a fleeting glance and said nothing. She seemed utterly indifferent.
You actually care a lot, don’t you? I can tell! Maryse’s heart screamed, her pride swelling.
Bai Yan withdrew his hand, the smile hidden behind his mask betraying his amusement.
From the very beginning, he had been listening to the inner dramas of the people at the Babel Tower, and he continued to do so even now. Maryse’s inner thoughts, in particular, were a blend of excitement and conflict—a source of endless entertainment for him.
But there was another individual who deserved his attention: Ganis.
In Ganis’s heart, there was only one figure: “Amicio.”
Undoubtedly, Ganis believed that this man was the “Son of God.” There was no room for doubt in his mind.
Bai Yan furrowed his brow as he thought of this peculiar and seemingly joyful being.
That man had come knocking on their door.
Indeed, members of Babel Tower frequently showed up in both Tatsumi City and Annottales, and it was only natural for Amicio to come to Tatsumi City, driven by his curiosity or admiration.
Bai Yan pondered the best way to deal with this enigmatic individual.
“Perhaps a direct confrontation wouldn’t be the wisest choice,” Bai Yan thought.
Amicio’s strength was unlikely to be inferior to Silence’s. Even if the entire Babel Tower mobilized, they might have a slim chance of subduing him, but it was far more likely that he’d simply escape.
What did Amicio truly want? Was his intention to harm Babel Tower?
Bai Yan thought deeply and came to a conclusion: the two sides might not necessarily be enemies for now.
During the previous adventure in Annottales, Amicio had opposed the two members of the Dark Light Church and clashed with Babel Tower, but that was because he had been working for hire at the time.
Now that his employment period had ended, Amicio—true to his carefree nature—might not necessarily remain an enemy of Babel Tower.
Evidence of this lay in the first playthrough of the “Babel Tower” game. Amicio’s decision to help or hinder Babel Tower always seemed to be a fifty-fifty toss of a coin.
In that fleeting moment before flipping the coin, perhaps even Amicio himself was unsure of which path he’d take.
“For someone like him, watching Babel Tower influence the entire world is probably far more interesting than destroying it.”
“But this walking, ticking time bomb is really hard to deal with…” Bai Yan shook his head.
Since Amicio hadn’t immediately attacked Ganis, there might still be room for negotiation. Bai Yan decided to observe the situation a little longer.
***
The Savior’s alter ego, Bai Yan, seated on the throne, spoke familiar words often mentioned in past meetings.
He reminded everyone that only two months remained until the next Doomsday Crisis.
Time was running out, and the gravity of his words caused the expressions of many to shift.
Meanwhile, Bai Yan continued to listen to the thoughts of those around him.

Upon arriving at the Babel Tower Temple, Old Mike was momentarily stunned. Then, instinctively, he grew cautious and alert.
Naturally suspicious, he found it difficult to believe that this group of masked individuals were his new “teammates” and so-called “companions” of Babel Tower.
Old Mike’s mind raced with possibilities. What if all of this was fake? Or perhaps the result of a hacker’s implanted dream?
He even began formulating an escape plan, anticipating that these people might suddenly turn on him.
He considered pleading for mercy as his last resort—perhaps it might grant him a slim chance of survival.
But soon, he realized he was overthinking.
This was the legendary Babel Tower.
The breathtaking scenery before him was like something from another world, far too extraordinary to be fake.
His personal online storage showed no signs of tampering, and the surreal sight before him was undeniably real.
There, standing in front of him, were the masked members of Babel Tower. And now, he was about to become one of them.
Old Mike observed the chatting crowd, his eyes scanning each individual carefully.
Among the figures, he noticed something unusual—a gigantic slime creature.
It was bizarre yet undeniable: even this massive slime was a member of Babel Tower.
This time, the member collectively ignored by the new operators was the Sword of Demons.
Old Mike regarded it as someone’s equipment or prop, and the three newcomers were unaware that this floating sword blade was actually a Core Operator.
“…”
As Old Mike observed the young men and women, a sense of detachment and distance suddenly emerged from deep within him.
Do I truly belong here?
Just as this thought crossed his mind, the will of the mighty “Savior” reached into the hearts of everyone present:
[Hidden Azure, a new member, hails from the Kingdom of Dark Light known as Annottales.]
[Sacred Heart’s Chosen, a new member, comes from the distant continent of Zeuo in another world.]
[The Final Gun, a new member, originates from the Ring City in the Night Union.]
It had only been ten days since the last meeting, yet in this short time, Babel Tower had unexpectedly gained three new Core Operators—a speed of recruitment that astonished everyone.
In an instant, all eyes turned toward Aurora, Old Mike, and Kaluoer.
Among the newcomers, two were assassins, deliberately keeping a low profile. However, the Savior’s words within everyone’s hearts made even the old man hiding in the corner the center of attention.
Old Mike furrowed his brow deeply.
I can tell he, like me, was forced to join Babel Tower.
Scarlet Moon spoke first. With a single glance, she discerned Old Mike’s predicament and felt a twinge of sympathy for him.
Not far away, Aurora had already noticed Scarlet Moon and was surprised to realize that she was a vampire.
Aurora frowned in confusion and asked, “Forced? Really? Joining Babel Tower is undoubtedly a good thing, right? I’m happy to be part of Babel Tower and to meet all of you… I had thought the members of Babel Tower were like-minded, powerful warriors. Could I have been mistaken?”
Aurora, the Sacred Heart’s Chosen, carried a natural prejudice against bloodlines.
In her world, bloodlines were not recognized as intelligent races but rather as evil creatures that roamed the wilderness. Righteous individuals were expected to slay them on sight.
The Scarlet Blood Clan, established by Scarlet Moon, survived by feeding on blood but rarely took lives in the process. Their “blood bags” were a group of mortals who willingly exchanged their blood for monetary compensation, making it a fair transaction.
However, in Aurora’s world, once humans or elves were captured by savage, primitive vampires, their fate was grim—they were often sucked dry, torn apart, or devoured.
Even though Aurora refrained from attacking Scarlet Moon, she couldn’t shake the discomfort she felt upon spotting such a monstrous being standing boldly among the crowd.
To think that even he is a member of Babel Tower… How many innocent lives will this mighty vampire king take?
Aurora dared not dwell on the thought any further.
Meanwhile, the others had different thoughts of their own:
How can I kill these people? Vampires require specific weapons, perhaps the bloodline of a high elf or a potent poison to subdue them… Strange, I haven’t seen the master yet.
This was Hidden Azure’s instinctive assassin’s analysis.
The number of people in Babel Tower keeps growing… Am I the only one being persecuted here? Perhaps I should connect more with others from different worlds and non-human members.
This was the deep contemplation of Ganis.
[Rumble, rumble, rumble!]
This… was the thought process of a slime. But that didn’t seem to matter much.
Bai Yan, observing the group, furrowed his brow as he listened carefully to the undercurrent of thoughts swirling within their minds.
By now, the core members of Babel Tower had grown in number. These dozen or so “people” hailed from various regions, different worlds, and diverse backgrounds, each with their own perspectives, races, and customs.
It would have been strange if there weren’t any conflicts during their interactions.
In fact, during the first playthrough of Babel Tower, there had been a conflict so intense that it was impossible to reconcile.
Back then, Scarlet Moon had gone berserk due to her blood-sucking nature, leading to a disastrous battle at the Augustus family’s residence. In her madness, she had killed several people, including Maryse’s loyal maid, Irena.
As a result, Maryse became consumed with eliminating Scarlet Moon, disregarding everything else. This incident became the spark that intensified the underlying tensions within Babel Tower, ultimately causing its collapse.
During that time, even betrayals among teammates were not uncommon.
In the second playthrough, however, the protagonist had gained a wealth of experience and knew the personalities and motivations of most key members.
As the Lord of the Tower, Bai Yan now understood how to bring everyone together, uniting them into a cohesive, tightly-knit group.
