Chapter 349: “Big and Small”
Bai Yan sat on the throne of the Babel Tower, watching the unfolding events through the perspective of the Scarlet Moon. He observed the spectacle of “arrival” unfold, contemplating the true objective behind Dead Silence’s actions.
What could be more important than dedicating this city to the Peaceful Songstress?
In Annottales, Bai Yan could only think of two things more important than this city. Or perhaps more accurately, one thing and a pair.
The first was the key to the Ultimate Ritual of becoming a god. The second… a Vessel of God, carefully prepared by the Savior of Dark Light.
And then there were the two sisters: Evie and Kaluoer.
The god reborn within the vessel was surprisingly weak, lacking any divine power. All Dead Silence needed was to find a way to allow the Savior of Dark Light to be reborn from the vessel, offering a truly divine soul to the great Outer God. How could a mere city ever compare to that?
This was their true purpose, one that they had spent countless resources and time orchestrating.
The Scarlet Moon, proud and domineering, looked down upon all living beings. Since her ascension as Queen of the Crimson Blood Clan, she had never bowed to anyone, no matter their strength.
Still, she couldn’t ignore one thing.
The Evil Spirit in front of her was incredibly powerful. It would not be an easy fight.
According to her sources, the “Evil Spirit” was the former Captain of the Knights of the Divine Blade—a past hero and the most powerful being under Dead Silence’s command. His strength seemed to rival that of a middle-ranked Apocalypse.
Despite the fact that her own power had grown considerably after she gained the blood of that annoying person, along with the force of the Scourge of War, there was no denying the Evil Spirit’s formidable might. Defeating a top-tier powerhouse, one capable of erasing even a middle-ranked Apocalypse, felt like an impossible feat.
“Babel Tower is… you all have indeed come. No wonder they saw me entering the Temple of Dark Light and were stopped by the ‘Son of God’, but they weren’t even panicking.” The old man’s voice was calm and emotionless.
“Because you were causing trouble here,” the voice echoed from nowhere, not from a person, but from a pile of fallen armor.
Though shattered into pieces, faint wisps of blue souls still connected the various parts of the armor, slowly piecing them together.
This was why the “Evil Spirit” never revealed its true form. He had long abandoned his physical body, allowing his soul to permanently enter this suit of armor.
The white suit of armor was a Civilization-level Relic. While it couldn’t rid the Evil Spirit of the curse from the Outer God, it did offer the ability to help the wearer overcome negative emotions.
For many years, those tortured souls had clung to him, causing him immense pain. But the “Evil Spirit” no longer felt sorrow.
In his forced calm, he found a strange sense of peace.
“Help! Help!”
“Please save us quickly!”
Suddenly, the Scarlet Moon heard two faint voices in the air. Pausing, she looked closely, only to spot two small beings on the ground, no bigger than the size of her palm.
Without a doubt, it was Evie and her loyal maid.
The two had just been struck by the Evil Spirit’s magic, shrinking instantly under its sinister influence.
“Hehe, it seems like you want to protect them?” came the voice from within the armor.
However, the Scarlet Moon’s response was unexpected.
“I don’t know you… If you prefer fried or grilled, it’s up to you… but because of a jerk’s demand, I have to kill you here.”
With that, the Scarlet Moon dismissed the two small beings completely, treating them as nothing more than insignificant outsiders.
“Is it really like this?”
In the next moment, the Evil Spirit unleashed its powers again.
He reduced the distance between them, reaching for the two tiny figures.
“Come on!” Evie screamed in terror.
But just as suddenly, the Evil Spirit found itself grasping nothing but empty air.
“Hmm…”
The Evil Spirit looked in the direction of the disturbance.
A few hundred meters away, an extraordinary individual stood. Wearing a round-faced mask and a purple suit, Alan, the “Mysterious Magic” of Babel Tower, had just used “The Reanimation Spell” to swap the positions of the two little beings and the deck of cards in his pocket.
“Another one has come,” Alan muttered quietly.
However, neither he nor the Evil Spirit was fazed. Both were extraordinary individuals at the Crown level, and the Evil Spirit wasted no time in using its innate powers again.
This time, it conjured a multitude of magical symbols that grew hundreds of times larger, each one causing a massive explosion in the next instant.
“Oh no! Be careful!” the Scarlet Moon cried out, instinctively trying to shield Azurin. But she quickly realized he had vanished without a trace.
Alan had cast the forbidden spell “Foresee the Future” on himself, allowing him to anticipate the Evil Spirit’s moves. Foreseeing the attack, he used “Short-range Teleportation” to escape several kilometers away, well outside the danger zone.
“Boom!”
A tremendous explosion shook the very earth, creating a massive mushroom-shaped cloud that reached into the sky.
Yet, despite the devastating force, the Temple of Dark Light remained undisturbed, its walls unscathed, and the people inside were untouched.
After the blast, the Scarlet Moon, suspended in the air, was bloodied but already healing at a visible rate, regenerating quickly.
Pondering, she realized that her previous thoughts had been wrong. She had considered the people of Babel Tower as allies, even though her body was still recovering from the damage.
With newfound resolve, she decided to harness the power given to her by the Babel Tower—the Scourge of War.
With a swift gesture, she summoned a weapon from the void.
This time, she didn’t use Bad Inflammation, which was designed for dealing with spirits. Instead, she summoned a dark red whip, named “Incinerator,” a Civilization-level Relic capable of banishing and purifying extraordinary powers.
“I will kill you first,” she said, her voice cold and indifferent.
The Evil Spirit appeared once more before her, its fist raised and poised to strike, unremarkable yet deadly.
Without hesitation, the Scarlet Moon drew her whip, aiming to expel the Evil Spirit’s soul from its armor.
But the Evil Spirit had already amplified its power and reduced the distance between them, delivering a powerful blow aimed directly at the Scarlet Moon’s head.
The full force of a middle-ranked Apocalypse, unleashed with deadly precision, could easily have taken half of the Scarlet Moon’s life.
But in a shocking turn, she switched places with a nearby stone, completely evading the devastating blow.
The Evil Spirit frowned, momentarily bewildered.
“Troublesome powers…” it muttered.
Alan reappeared at the battlefield, assisting the Scarlet Moon once again.
In the next moment, the Scarlet Moon’s fiery red whip sliced through the air, but the Evil Spirit’s armored body became tiny and invisible, narrowly avoiding the attack.
“He disappeared!” Alan exclaimed.
As he tried to assist further with his detection magic, the shrunken Evil Spirit pushed him away, instantly increasing the distance between them. Alan was sent flying outside the boundaries of the first district.
Confused, Alan attempted to return, only to find that the streets around him had shifted. He found himself in a slum, surrounded by disorienting streets.
Annottales had transformed into a “Lost City.”
Meanwhile, near the Temple of Dark Light, the battle raged on.
“Now it’s just you remaining! Let’s see how long you can hold on!” the Evil Spirit taunted.
Its voice grew heavier as it tried to attack again, only to find the enemy’s position had shifted once more.
The Evil Spirit blinked in astonishment, unsure of what was happening. How could the masked individual, whom it had just cast away, have returned to stand before him?
“How is that possible?” the Evil Spirit wondered.
What on earth was going on? After leaving the street, there was no logical way this individual could return so quickly in such a chaotic, shifting city.
What the Evil Spirit didn’t know was that an audience had been watching everything from the sidelines—an audience that had just summoned Alan back into the fray using the Savior’s summoning ability.
