Chapter 326: Mirrors and Reflections
With the power of “Thousands of Ruins, Everything Is Used,” Bai Yan could transform lifeless objects into relics.
Undoubtedly, this ability was immensely powerful, surpassing any civilization-level relic.
And it was only one of the three effects of a ruin-level relic!
Even Bai Yan’s usual black staff had been transformed into a genuine relic, one that made even the most extraordinary individuals envious.
Its effect was simple but potent.
At the tip of the black staff, a purple glow would appear, amplifying the user’s power output.
The cost, however, was noticeable—it drained the user’s strength.
For Bai Yan in his current state, such a cost was insignificant.
In the next moment, he had crossed a distance of several hundred meters, standing before his enemy.
The figure before him revealed itself.
A man, with skin turning purple like the monsters, incredibly thin and frail—almost a skeleton covered in skin.
Bai Yan, appearing around thirty years old with short blue hair, stood firm. His body was pinned to the wall by a black cane, and his eyes continued to glare angrily at Bai Yan.
Unwillingness, anger, hatred—intense negative emotions defined his demeanor.
Even though captured, the frail man shouted, “You foolish nobles! Slave masters! Do you think your power can truly kill me? I am an immortal avenger! Hahaha!”
Bai Yan, his expression calm, spoke slowly, “Tell me all the information… How many of you are there, and what do you plan to do next?”
“Do you think I would tell?” the frail man chuckled triumphantly.
“Of course, with my magic, you will be able to say anything.”
Bai Yan snapped his fingers, his eyes gleaming with a silvery light, and his psychic power infiltrated the enemy’s mind.
The frail man’s eyes glazed over, and the anger and triumph he once held vanished without a trace.
“Bam!”
Bai Yan, the male figure, witnessed a gruesome scene. The body pinned to the wall shattered into pieces, blood splattering in all directions. Not a single drop marred Bai Yan’s form, remaining pure as ever.
He stood still, unmoved and unruffled, a picture of composure.
“Boom,” he muttered.
Bai Yan shook his head slightly, indicating the failure to acquire the information.
They might indeed be truly dead.
Perhaps they used some ability or relic to escape unscathed.
Regardless, it wasn’t a happy ending.
He reached out, and the black wand flew back into his hand. He turned his attention to something not far away.
Kaluoer was still battling the monster.
What goes around, comes around.
“She really isn’t good at dealing with large enemies, nor is she suited for direct combat,” Bai Yan murmured.
He used his power of “Connection,” extracting information about the monster.
The monster’s power was not yet at the Crown level. It was a native creature from the Belan World, the dominant species in its food chain.
While its power was similar to Kaluoer’s, in terms of compatibility, Hidden Azure was at a disadvantage.
Even some extraordinary beings who reached Crown-level, especially non-physical entities, might find themselves threatened by Hidden Azure’s power.
For example, Maryse could very well be suppressed by Kaluoer’s strength.
She didn’t have the “radiance” of an Apocalyptic-level extraordinary being, nor inherent defenses, and her physical body was relatively fragile.
Although Maryse’s raw power far surpassed Kaluoer’s, if Kaluoer ambushed her, emerging from the void to strike, Maryse would certainly fall.
And then there were colossal monsters like Fusion Slime. Though it hadn’t reached Crown-level, its lack of vital points and regenerative abilities made it formidable.
Kaluoer would be overwhelmed by its explosive hammer.
This was the “compatibility” between extraordinary powers.
In battles between extraordinary beings, compatibility often determines the outcome more than raw strength.
Thus, knowing each extraordinary being’s abilities was crucial.
Of course, there was one exception to this.
If an extraordinary being possessed the power to handle any situation, they would be invincible against any enemy or environment.
In that case, the compatibility of extraordinary powers would become irrelevant.
Bai Yan, with his “Power Possession,” was truly a one-of-a-kind exception!
“Ouch!”
The enormous shell monster rolled uncontrollably, trying to shake off the little one on its head, but it was powerless. It could only be constantly wounded, covered in cuts.
If it continued, it would crash into nearby houses… It had to act.
Bai Yan, golden flames condensing in his hands, prepared the Scourge of War.
From his daydream, he conjured the Apollo’s Arrow, a relic from the Civilization-level. The arrow, glowing with dark golden flames, held enough power to slay monsters instantly—even at half strength!
Civilization-level Relic: Apollo’s Arrow—this relic possessed tremendous power, capable of restraining all manner of evil and strangeness.
True relics had a cost: the chaos they brought to relationships. However, civilization-level relics required no payment at all.
Just as Bai Yan prepared to strike the monster…
Someone arrived.
“Hmm?”
Kaluoer, perched on the monster’s head, blinked for a moment as if sensing something, and immediately retreated into the dimension of nothingness.
In the next moment, an immense black beam descended from the sky, like a heavy hydraulic press, crushing the monster with terrifying power, flattening it into thin slices.
“Oooohhhhh!”
Blood sprayed out, instantly staining the surroundings with dark purple, accompanied by a horrible stench.
In a final fit of rage and despair, the colossal monster let out a mournful howl as it collapsed with a thunderous crash.
Bai Yan squinted, gripping the black staff, watching the scene unfold.
His “true face” had been concealed by the transformation of the “Disguise Mask” for an unknown period of time.
Kaluoer knelt beside him, her voice soft.
“Master, I couldn’t complete the task.”
“Please punish me.”
She habitually sought punishment, a result of the rigorous training under her female mentor during the Mercury Ball—deeply ingrained into her core.
Bai Yan shook his head, his tone calm. “Hidden Azure, step back for now. We mustn’t let others see your true identity.”
“Yes.”
Kaluoer lowered her head, gradually disappearing from sight.
Moments later, a handsome man with golden hair appeared where the monster had once been.
In the rain, he wore a black robe, his expression solemn, resembling a noble figure. He held a blue glowing pearl—perhaps a powerful relic of some kind.
Among the many Dark Night Saints stood one—the Dark Light Ruler.
The Ruler gazed at the Keeper of Secrets, Bai Yan, and spoke, communicating with two other brothers in distant districts through the air:
“The members of the Babel Tower are right here, I have found them.”
Kaluoer had already vanished, leaving Bai Yan standing still in the rain.
The Ruler sensed the immense pressure emanating from him.
No raindrops touched the Dark Light Ruler’s form, and his true face remained hidden beneath the mask. The Ruler felt an unfathomable aura emanating from his opponent, as if it were the depths of a vast, dark ocean.
A true champion.
The Ruler instinctively took a step back.
Bai Yan, his voice steady and calm, introduced himself.
“Welcome, Mr. Saint. I am a member of the Babel Tower, known as the ‘Keeper of Secrets.’ Many on this street have been afflicted by the madness caused by the Moon Witch Order, and they need the church’s aid and healing.”
“Of course, they would.”
The Ruler nodded slowly. “The Savior’s people will never abandon… But besides that, I also have a very important task.”
“Indeed, let’s destroy the Babel Tower!”
Though the Ruler was aware of Bai Yan’s power, he refused to shrink back.
What kind of believer would he be, if he did?
From childhood, the Ruler had dreamed of being like the heroes of myth—the Savior who fights for justice and saves the world.
Bai Yan fell into deep thought, recalling that the Divine Executor had a fondness for the Babel Tower.
But this saint harbored obvious hostility.
“So, what you’re saying is, even within the top ranks of the Dark Light Church, there are disagreements?”
He turned, about to leave.
“The Babel Tower exists to save the world. It won’t affect you for now… even if it does, you won’t be able to stop us.”
“Don’t think you can leave just like this! Heretic!”
The Ruler raised the Relic in his hand, ready to unleash its power.
But in the next moment, he realized the Relic had vanished.
The Ruler’s abdomen was pierced, a terrible wound gushing blood.
“How is that possible?”
The Ruler collapsed on one knee, stunned and unable to comprehend what had just occurred.
Was this person, like the ‘Nightsaber,’ capable of pausing time? Or perhaps mastering instantaneous movement?
Bai Yan stood calmly, his face concealed by the mask. He had been standing behind the Ruler, though no one knew when.
In the Ruler’s hand, the pearl that emitted a shining blue light was now in Bai Yan’s possession.
“I told you, you cannot stop the Babel Tower from doing anything.”
Bai Yan paused. “We are not enemies.”
The Ruler tried to heal his wounds using dark light, laughing maniacally. “To destroy the Babel Tower is the divine decree. Do you really expect me to believe you, instead of trusting in God?”
Bai Yan understood now. This was why the Dark Light Church held such hostility toward the Babel Tower.
But now, something curious lingered in his thoughts.
Why would the Dark Light’s Divine Executor align with the Babel Tower? Why did he adopt the Vessel of God? And why did he, as the leader of the church, always oppose the divine decrees at every turn?
Just then, a magnificent black light enveloped the entire street.
The Ruler soared into the sky, his figure growing a hundred times larger, cloaked in dark light, as if a black deity were casting judgment upon the Babel Tower.
“Mortal!”
“You are fraught with heinous sins!”
“I obey the divine decree! I shall pass judgment upon you!”
One by one, black rays of light descended, thunderously striking toward Bai Yan.
But after the storm of dark thunder, the “Keeper of Secrets” remained unscathed.
“How could this be?”
The Ruler found it impossible to believe. It was their full-force strike, powered by years of accumulated Dark Light energy. How could someone withstand it so easily?
Bai Yan simply smiled and spoke calmly.
“But how could you possibly know if everything you see in this moment is real and not an illusion?”
Could it be?
The scenery before the Ruler began to blur.
Everything was a fleeting illusion.
The rain continued to fall.
Bai Yan stood, his presence calm, as the Ruler’s eyes grew vacant. The desperate struggle, the all-out attack—it had never existed.
In Bai Yan’s eyes, black mist swirled.
They stayed connected.
“Let’s gather all the secrets of the Dark Light Church’s leaders from you.”
