Chapter 300: Champion, Champion, the Crowd Cheers!
Bai Yan held the black and white cat in his hand. The cat was completely still, not making a sound, just calmly observing its surroundings.
There was something subtle in its eyes—an intelligence that was not easily noticed.
A strange feeling lingered in Bai Yan’s mind.
He couldn’t shake the sense that this cat seemed to be smiling at him, though cats weren’t supposed to smile like humans. If they appeared to smile, it was typically because they were smelling something, yawning, or experiencing stress.
But no. This cat’s gaze had a peculiar, almost humorous quality—like it was amused.
A cat capable of nullifying one’s innate powers could never be considered ordinary.
Bai Yan took a closer look. It was a female cat. But then, without warning, it became furious, scratching at his hand with frantic intensity.
The trace of amusement in its gaze vanished entirely.
“Aooh! Aooh! Aooh!”
Despite the cat’s aggression, Bai Yan had undergone a profound transformation. He no longer felt any pain from such a trivial level of force.
He could, if he wished, use the power of his skin to break the cat’s claws apart.
With an air of indifference, he spoke, “This cat must have been a stray for a while. It may look clean, but it would be better to give it a wash—remember to use warm water. Cats don’t like cold water.”
After giving the maid these instructions, Bai Yan handed the cat, named “Coke,” back to her.
“Yes, master,” the maid responded immediately, taking the cat from his hands.
“Aooh!”
But the cat was still angry, and it lashed out, scratching the maid’s hand, drawing blood.
“Ah!” The maid cried out in pain.
Bai Yan furrowed his brows, his hand reaching out to use the power of the Frigga Sacred Rune to heal the maid’s injury.
“Be careful.”
“Thank you, thank you, master.” The maid nodded obediently, her gaze filled with surprise as she inspected her hand. The pain was gone, with no trace of the injury remaining.
Bai Yan calmly picked up the cat again, delivering two swift slaps to its rear.
The cat hissed in anger, its fur standing on end.
“Go to sleep,” Bai Yan said, his tone impassive. He used his psychic powers to lull the cat into a deep sleep before handing it back to the maid.
“Take it to wash now while it’s
still asleep. It shouldn’t wake
up for a while.”
The maid bowed deeply and
hurriedly took the cat
downstairs.
Bai Yan stood still for a
moment, observing. “The Real
Digital World doesn’t work, but
psychic powers do… This cat
is certainly not normal.”
Though Bai Yan couldn’t yet
determine exactly what kind of
animal this “cat” was, he knew
one thing for certain—it would
be worth keeping an eye on.
With that, he left the room,
eventually finding himself in a
garden that resembled a
“promised place.”
The unfortunate Evie was
already waiting for him.
Upon seeing Bai Yan, she
furrowed her brow, as was her
usual habit. She felt something
was off.
“Why am I here…?”
Bai Yan gently shook his head,
leaning on his black cane, a
subtle expression crossing his
face. “Don’t say it again. I’ve
already heard that questions
several times.”
Evie’s eyes widened in shock.
She instinctively covered her
head, her fear rising.
She was a clever woman and
immediately realized
something was wrong.
“I don’t understand… What are
you talking about?”
She tried to gather information,
seeking to understand why
she was there and what Bai
Yan intended to do. Her
confusion deepened. Why
hadn’t her maid and guard
accompanied her?
Bai Yan again shook his head,
raising his hand with practiced
skill, launching his psychic
powers toward her. “For now,
you don’t need to understand
the cause and effect.”
“Ah… Ah… Ah…”
The hypnotized Evie lowered
her head, her eyes glazed over,
lost in confusion.
“Have you found that ‘key’?”
Bai Yan asked.
“I… I have found it.”
For a moment, Bai Yan paused,
his initial lack of hope fading
as his eyes brightened with
interest.
“Hmm. Where is it?”
“It’s beneath the statue in the
main hall,” Evie explained, her
voice still dazed. “There’s a
hidden passage leading
underground, revealed through
a certain ritual. I overheard the
old servant mention it. The
‘key’ is there.”
Bai Yan’s lips curled into a
slight smile, not surprised by
her answer.
During his first playthrough of
the “Babel Tower” game, he
knew the boss would always
find the key to ascend from the
Temple of Dark Light. Now, he
had a clearer understanding of
where it was hidden.
The only problem now was how to enter.
Bai Yan knew that rushing into
the temple would be a grave
mistake. The Incarnation of
Dark Light, who held quasis-
godlike power, would catch
him instantly.
That old man was likely even
stronger than Glofield, and the
Temple of Dark Light was his
home ground. Breaking in
would be impossible.
He remained silent, pondering.
The key to success lay with
Evie. As the adopted daughter
of the old man, she had nearly
unrestricted access.
“If only you could leap out of
the pond quickly,” Bai Yan
mused, before making his
decision.
He slipped a small piece of
paper into Evie’s hand.
“Your sister is here.”
Bai Yan’s tone remained calm.
“However, if you want
someone to investigate who
gave you this information, you
will forget everything… even
the note.”
This was his form of
compensation.
Bai Yan had forced Evie to act
on his behalf, so it only
seemed fair to offer her a
reward. This note held her
sister’s current location—the
address of Kaluoer.
It was a risky move. Evie might
turn and report it, though Bai
Yan believed this was unlikely.
Still, the sisters had longed to
reunite, and if he could help, he
would.
Bai Yan knew that if he chose
not to help, it could be seen as
righteous, but at this point, he
wasn’t as inclined to do so.
After Bai Yan left, Evie slowly
regained her awareness,
clutching the note in her hand.
“How did I end up here…?” she
wondered aloud.
She glanced down at the piece
of paper she was holding.
“A note?”
Her brows furrowed as she
read, and her pupils contracted
in shock!
The note instructed her not to
investigate its origins, or she
would forget everything,
including the chance to find
her sister. It also contained the
address of Kaluoer.
“Kaluoer!”
In that moment, Evie felt her
heart race in a way it never had
before.
“Kaluoer is in Annottales!”
Evie’s mind was in a frenzy.
Had her sister just arrived in
this city, or had she been here
all along? No… If Kaluoer had
been here, her foster father
wouldn’t have failed to find her.
Who gave her this
information?
The question lingered, but Evie
quickly pushed it away, fearing
the note’s warning.
The information felt real, and
she felt an overwhelming
sense of gratitude to whoever
had given it to her. If she could
truly find her sister, she would
repay them with everything she
had.
For Evie, her sister meant more
than anything else—her very
life.
Even if it meant sacrificing
everything, it would be worth it
to bring Kaluoer even a
moment of happiness.
The festival continued as
planned, with January 3rd
marking “Dark Night Day,” a
day to honor the Savior of Dark
Light.
For the people of the Kingdom
of Dark Light, this day was
even more significant than
New Year’s Day. On Dark Night
Day, everyone, from the
nobility to servants, received
the day off, even slaves were
compensated for working on
holidays.
The upper-class society
celebrated by rewarding their
servants, further solidifying
their display of generosity.
Only sinners were excluded
from the festivities.
At the Tulip Manor, Viscount
Edmond’s estate was lavishly
decorated, with many high-
status guests invited to the
ball.
But there was a catch—Bai
Yan, in the form of Viscount
Edmond, wasn’t there to truly
enjoy the festivities.
He had another mission
entirely.
The grand banquet was a ruse
—an alibi.
In the meantime, Bai Yan’s real
form was at the abattoir—an
arena for gladiators in
Annottales.
As he stood at the entrance,
the people around him
celebrated, waving torches,
and igniting fireworks. The air
was thick with excitement.
This was the grandest of all
celebrations, with a statue of
the Savior of Dark Light
looming over every district,
including the one Bai Yan
stood in.
But his thoughts were
elsewhere, his mind focused
on something far more
pressing.
It was time to intervene.
To be continued…
