Chapter 252: Reunion
In the dimly lit room, Ganis sat, feeling a deep unease. His powerful frame was shrouded in darkness, while his thoughts circled around the years that had passed.
What have I truly gained through all this time?
What more have I lost?
He extended his hand slowly, clenching it tightly.
Regardless of the past, the present self now holds a new chance.
“I will seize this opportunity, Ann. I swear it.”
Ann. His younger sister’s name echoed in his mind.
He often whispered it during his battles, hoping that, somehow, his loved ones would give him the strength to survive.
It was this very trust that had allowed Ganis to endure all this time.
To survive, he had killed many innocent people—those who were once comrades, full of life, with loved ones and dreams.
But the “citizens within the city”—they were like demons, stealing all of that away.
The anger within him boiled, making it impossible for him to find peace. Nearly every night, the thought of his sister haunted him. Is she alive?
His dream was to tear Mr. Keno apart, to feed his heart to the dogs. This “demon” had pretended to care for him, making everyone obey his will.
If it weren’t for him, he and Ann would never have been separated. Keno knew this, and yet, he persisted.
Ganis was no fool. He had no faith in Keno’s ability to uphold his promises.
There was no benefit for Keno to let Ann escape her “sinner” label. Even if Keno did fulfill the agreement, he had no reason to keep Ganis from meeting his sister.
“Ann… don’t die. Wait for me.”
Ganis took a deep breath. With the Babel Tower and the Savior, the future seemed filled with possibilities.
Please, Ann, wait for me. Don’t give up.
Suddenly, he felt someone outside the door. Who?
Ganis stayed calm, pretending not to notice.
“Hello, may I ask Mr. ‘Fist of Duel’… is it you who wishes to rescue your sister and lead everyone out of this corrupt place?”
The voice belonged to “Profligate”!
Ganis, with his sharp memory, instantly recognized it.
He thought for a moment.
He was sent by the “Savior” to assist me. I can trust him—for now.
“Yes, it’s me.” Ganis answered quickly. “I am willing to sacrifice everything for this.”
In an instant, a mass of flesh-colored liquid oozed from the cracks in the door, dripping onto the ground.
Ganis widened his eyes in shock.
The liquid squirmed and recombined, slowly forming the shape of a humanoid figure.
The aura of an aristocratic scholar, a classical black robe, a handsome face, and a faint smile.
This was the “Profligate” version of Bai Yan.
Ganis sighed in relief.
“Mr. Profligate, you’ve finally arrived… May I ask, how is my sister Ann?”
Though his voice was calm, his heart raced with anxiety.
Bai Yan smiled faintly, sensing Ganis’s restlessness.
“Your sister… I haven’t rescued her yet.”
A wave of disappointment washed over Ganis.
[So, you too are unreliable, Profligate. I hope you’re not just here to indulge yourself forever.]
Despite his frustration, Ganis remained composed, his hands clasped as he took a deep breath.
Bai Yan continued, “But I’ve located her. I can rescue her at any time.”
Ganis’s heart skipped a beat. Joy surged in his chest, his eyes alight with hope.
[Fantastic! As long as you can rescue her, I’ll do anything you ask!]
After a short pause, Bai Yan smiled again, his tone teasing.
“But I won’t rescue her.”
Ganis was dumbfounded, unable to find words.
If it were anyone else, they would’ve been furious by now, but Ganis, despite his powerful build, remained clear-headed.
[What’s this cryptic fellow up to? If you don’t want to save her, then why say all this to me? What’s your game? Can “Profligate” ignore the “Savior’s” commands, or does he want something from me?]
Bai Yan finally spoke again.
“I want you to save your sister yourself.”
“What?”
Ganis stood up, his eyes wide, overwhelmed with a mix of astonishment, joy, and disbelief.
Bai Yan nodded.
“If I can come in easily, I can take you away just as easily. Do you believe me?”
“I believe!” Ganis replied with unwavering trust.
“Then, I will take you there, and you will save your sister yourself.”
Ganis, filled with gratitude, extended his hand with a smile.
“Thank you, Profligate. I don’t know how to repay you, but if I can save my sister, consider me deeply indebted.”
“I’ll be forever grateful to you.”
Bai Yan and Ganis shook hands.
Just then, Ganis’s phone vibrated—an alert from the Babel Tower.
Bai Yan’s smile deepened into something inscrutable.
“You don’t need to thank me. Everything is orchestrated by the ‘Savior’ of Babel Tower.”
Ann, Ganis’s younger sister, remained in Mr. Keno’s mansion, the host of the abattoir.
She hadn’t died—Keno wasn’t foolish enough to kill her.
He understood that a hostage was only valuable if kept alive.
But Keno had failed to fulfill his promise to let Ann change her appearance and rise above her past. Instead, he relegated her to the role of the lowest-ranking maid in the mansion.
Mr. Keno’s mansion was located in the opulent third district, surrounded by many guards. Though the Kingdom of Dark Light had excellent security, Keno could never afford to relax his vigilance—he had many enemies.
Bai Yan and Ganis now stood at the entrance of the mansion.
Ganis gazed at the night sky, where stars twinkled faintly.
A shooting star streaked across the dark expanse.
With a deep breath, Ganis felt an overwhelming surge of emotions.
I’ve emerged! After all these years, I’ve finally escaped that damnation, the abattoir!
I, Ganis the Persecuted, stand here with righteousness and integrity!
He held back the urge to shout, muttering softly to himself.
“One day, all the Persecuted will breathe freely in this city, gazing at the stars without fear!”
“Your dreams are noble,” Bai Yan said, smiling gently. “But for now, let’s focus on the task at hand.”
Ganis looked at the mansion, where numerous guards stood watch.
“These guards are from the ‘Divine Blade,’ the strongest knight order in the Kingdom of Dark Light. If they arrive, we’ll be in trouble.”
Bai Yan merely shook his head, his demeanor calm and collected.
“Don’t worry. No one will stop us. After all, we’re not villains, and there will be no conflict here.”
Bai Yan stepped forward, leading Ganis into the mansion with a smile.
The guards at the entrance looked at them, bewildered, yet made no move to stop them. They simply opened the door and bowed respectfully as Bai Yan and Ganis entered.
Under Bai Yan’s spiritual influence, the guards were rendered powerless, turning a blind eye to the two men.
Ganis watched, stunned by the ease with which Bai Yan manipulated them.
It was terrifying, in a way—this invisible power was far more formidable than any violence.
Inside the villa, Ganis spotted Mr. Keno’s family seated on the sofa, clearly under Bai Yan’s control.
“Where is my sister?” Ganis asked urgently.
Bai Yan responded calmly, “The basement.”
Ann worked in the basement, where she spent most of her time, eating and sleeping there.
Her condition had worsened due to lack of sunlight, and her illness had taken a turn for the worse.
If Bai Yan didn’t act soon, Ann would likely succumb to her condition.
Ganis hurried down to the basement. The dim, damp space was cold, and there, lying on a blanket, was Ann—frail and pale.
“Ann!” Ganis cried.
Ann slowly opened her eyes and sat up.
“Brother?” Her voice trembled, disbelief and joy mixing in her expression.
“Is it really you?”
“It’s me!” Ganis said, his voice thick with emotion.
He crouched down and gently held her fragile body, feeling the sharpness of her bones beneath his hands.
A powerful anger swelled within him, threatening to burst free.
Ann, confused but overjoyed, spoke through her tears.
“Brother, how did you come here? Did Mr. Keno send you? I thought… I thought I would never see you again!”
“Brother, I can’t believe it. I finally see you again!”
Ganis held her tightly, his voice unwavering.
“Ann, from now on, you will no longer suffer.”
“You will have a better life.”
He paused, his gaze hardening with determination.
“Not just you, Ann. All the so-called ‘sinners’ will live better lives from now on. I swear it.”
Ann smiled faintly, her trust in her brother unwavering.
“I believe you, dear brother.”
A soft applause sounded from the doorway.
Bai Yan stood there, smiling.
“So, Fist of Duel, Ganis… Have you decided what to do with this family?”
