Chapter 235: Are You Picking a Fight?
She didn’t fully understand the extent of the Savior’s power or what this enigmatic being could truly do to her.
In the Scarlet Moon’s eyes, the previous incidents were nothing more than being ambushed by some hidden extraordinary force and briefly controlled.
That was all.
Unaware of the Savior’s ability to decide her life or death, she remained wary of falling prey to extraordinary powers again.
What was this power? Was it innate ability, sorcery, a ritual, or some kind of Civilization-level Relic?
The Scarlet Moon was ever-vigilant against this mystical force capable of controlling her. Her experience taught her that such control always had a reason or trigger—never without cause.
“There’s half a minute left,” she said calmly.
The Scarlet Moon, ever true to her word since being hailed as the ruler by her kin, would act decisively when the one-minute mark passed.
And then? A merciless bloodbath.
What a pity.
She held a favorable impression of the hunters from this family and had even thought that she might form a friendship with their household head if given the chance.
But with the Mu family, represented by the young Mu Ling, being tied to Babel Tower, they had become her enemies—enemies of the vampires and herself.
The Scarlet Moon never showed mercy to enemies.
The minute had passed.
Mu Ling appeared before the Scarlet Moon.
With long white hair, violet-red eyes, clad in a majestic black trench coat, and wielding a deathly pitch-black sword, The Heart of Death, she stood resolute.
“Apologize to me.”
Her calm gaze met the Queen of the Scarlet Moon’s without flinching, even knowing her opponent’s power.
“You violated my clan’s possessions and openly provoked us. As head of the family, I accept your challenge.”
The Scarlet Moon studied her coldly.
“You’ve become the family head? Then where is your father? Why aren’t the other hunters of your clan here today?”
“They… passed away many years ago.”
The Scarlet Moon was silent for a moment.
“Oh.”
She realized, once again, how disconnected she was from this city. Most of the hunter clan was gone, reduced to a mere remnant.
These moments of realization were not new to her. Even now, she struggled to grasp modern tools—smartphones, computers, or even something as simple as an electric rice cooker.
She said slowly, “A good thing. There’s no need for me to kill them myself… I heard from Crimson that your family has had dealings with Babel Tower, which forcibly took control of me and made me join your group.”
“You betrayed me and provoked me first,” she said coldly.
Mu Ling’s eyes flickered briefly before she smiled faintly and shook her head, putting away her weapon.
“So, it’s like that. In that case, we don’t need to fight anymore.”
She continued, “Both you and I are pawns of the Savior. Any injury between us would only harm our master’s interests.”
The Scarlet Moon remained silent, sensing the deep admiration Mu Ling held for the Savior—a reverence almost akin to her own clan’s devotion to her.
“You are a canine tamed by the Savior. I am not,” the Scarlet Moon said, her tone icy.
“You still don’t understand,” Mu Ling murmured, turning to leave.
The Scarlet Moon moved in an instant.
She reached out to grasp Mu Ling’s throat, intending to crush the arrogant hunter. But before her hand could connect, she faltered.
With a smack, the Scarlet Moon fell face-first to the ground.
Blood spilled from her broken arms and knees, and her proud form lay crumpled, shock etched into her features.
Mu Ling calmly turned, watching the Scarlet Moon struggle to rise, only to fail repeatedly.
“The Savior has stripped you of your power,” she said, extending a hand to help her. “Your recent actions were not permitted.”
She continued, “Your only mistake was thinking you could be an enemy of the Savior. You are nothing more than a piece on his chessboard, unable to resist his hand.”
The Scarlet Moon, humiliated, stared blankly at her trembling palms.
At that moment, another figure appeared—Profligate, a senior member of Babel Tower.
The Scarlet Moon looked at him coldly.
“You betrayed me. I aided Babel Tower, and yet your Savior seeks to enslave me.”
Profligate smiled and shrugged.
“The power you’ve stagnated with for centuries? Only the Savior can help you surpass it. In time, you’ll understand.”
But the Scarlet Moon retorted, her voice as icy as her gaze.
“The fate of this world is irrelevant to me. Your so-called Savior is nothing but a despicable puppet master.”
Mu Ling, visibly shaken, shoved the Scarlet Moon back to the ground.
“If you insult him again,” she
said, her voice frigid, “I’ll cut
out your tongue.”
The Scarlet Moon, unmoving,
locked eyes with Mu Ling, her
defiance undeterred.
Profligate intervened, his voice
steady and firm.
“Enough.”
He used the Scarlet Moon’s
own powers against her,
mesmerizing her into
submission. She became
motionless—a pawn in his
hands.
With a wry smile, Profligate
turned to Mu Ling.
“You’ve done nothing wrong.
The Savior sees all, and if
punishment is due, it will come
from him.”
Mu Ling nodded, her
composure returning.
Later, Profligate stood beside
the mesmerized Scarlet Moon
in his villa, marveling at her
transformation.
She, once a fearsome Dark
King, was now an exquisite
puppet under his command.
“Every playthrough, it’s always
a challenge to raise your
loyalty,” he murmured. “But I
find a way, every time.”
The Scarlet Moon stood
silently, her golden eyes
vacant, a testament to the
Savior’s unfathomable power.
