Chapter 208: Explain With Physics!
In the present day, the Capetian family stands as one of the most dominant of the five major families. Though not as powerful as the others, they are united in purpose, with many exceptional individuals among them. The head of the family, Xiu, is no exception—he is a Potential Crown-level exceptional individual.
Xiu stood before the mirror in his bedroom, calmly gazing at his reflection. He didn’t exude any outward signs of his power unless he chose to actively release his aura. Otherwise, he appeared as plain and ordinary as any average person.
However, those who truly understood Xiu Capetian knew he was far from ordinary. He was not only incredibly powerful, but also ruthlessly cold-hearted. He was certainly not as amiable as his surface appearance suggested.
In the past, the Capetian family had pushed a small family to the brink. When the head of that family sought refuge with the Aster family, one of the five major families, the consequences were brutal. Overnight, all of the children were killed by extreme cold temperatures. Though the Demon Hunt Agency found no solid evidence, everyone suspected Xiu’s involvement. In the years that followed, the rest of that family slowly perished, and in the end, not even a dog survived.
After a long moment of reflection, Xiu stepped away from the mirror. “By now, it’s time to make a decision. Continuing to hesitate is not an option,” he muttered to himself.
He knew that the Babel Tower’s open recruitment of various clans was a clear indication: the Savior had already planned to take control of the city. The moment Xiu left the “Crown” hotel, he understood one thing: even if they joined the Babel Tower, they would never be “highly valued” by the Savior, unlike the few chosen ones.
If the Savior had the ability to rapidly strengthen everyone and provide endless magical resources, he wouldn’t need the five major families at all. The fact that he still needed them meant Babel Tower’s control over Tatsumi City was limited.
Xiu retrieved a black, exclusive phone from the bookcase, planning to contact the headquarters of the Demon Hunt Agency located in the “highest city.”
“Perhaps letting you dogs fight each other is the best choice,” he thought.
The “highest city” of the Air Alliance was constantly shifting. Each leader selected their own city as the “highest city,” and the Hundred Kings Assembly was held there. The headquarters of the Demon Hunt Agency, a “Relic,” would also relocate to the “highest city” at that time. If Tatsumi City ever became the “highest city,” the headquarters would move there, and the Director, “Duke of Blades,” would take direct control of the Demon Hunt Agency in Tatsumi City.
Yet the master of Tatsumi City, the Leaf King, had been making plans for years but received little support. In this election, he was ranked third, with no real hope of becoming the new alliance leader.
Suddenly, Xiu’s phone beeped repeatedly, but he couldn’t make any calls.
“What happened?” Xiu muttered, putting the phone down. He tried to connect via the internet, only to find no connection. It wasn’t just his laptop or phone; he checked multiple rooms, and all communication channels with the Air Alliance were cut off.
It was as if everything beyond the Capetian family and Tatsumi City had been severed.
He stood still, deep in thought, when suddenly, his computer began typing on its own. Black text appeared, one line after another:
“We have made warnings before.”
“You can’t tell the Air Alliance about this matter.”
“You’ve violated the rules.”
“You will be punished.”
Xiu frowned. Was this the work of some extraordinary power? He became more alert, wondering if the Savior of the Babel Tower would punish him for breaking the rules.
Suddenly, two formidable presences appeared nearby. Xiu turned around to find two figures, one a tall, slim man wearing purple attire reminiscent of a magician, and the other a small, underage female. Both had appeared out of nowhere, silent as shadows.
These were clearly agents of the Babel Tower.
“You arrived quickly. I made up my mind less than twenty minutes ago,” Xiu said, his tone icy and hostile. He was ready to strike at any moment.
Alan, the man in purple, spoke, “Because the Savior is watching you… As expected, you wanted to violate the Savior’s rules, and He was right about you.”
Xiu shook his head. “I’m not a member of Babel Tower, nor am I anyone’s dog like you. I can make my own decisions.”
His demeanor shifted. His eyes turned cold, shedding any pretense of friendliness. The temperature in the room dropped rapidly, and ice crystals formed on the walls. Alan and Maryse exchanged a glance.
Maryse spoke, “The Savior said that a warning is enough for most rule-breakers. But for him, killing him wouldn’t matter. The Babel Tower doesn’t welcome evil like this.”
Xiu Capetian, the ruthless head of the Capetian family, often abused his power and status to indiscriminately kill innocent people. Even a casual glance on the street could result in death. Such scum was not welcomed by Bai Yan. If Xiu ever joined the Babel Tower, he would be eliminated.
Xiu possessed a special Relic for handling traces, which had kept the Night Watchers at bay for years. Despite his notoriety, investigations into his actions were always shallow, and no one could catch him in the act.
Alan, however, had always longed to bring Xiu to justice, and today, that opportunity might finally come.
“I’m beginning to feel lucky,” Alan muttered. “I was chosen by the Babel Tower, and now I can deal with this demon once and for all.”
Maryse, however, wasn’t so sure. As an Awakening-level individual, she was concerned about facing such a powerful enemy—Xiu was a Potential Crown-level fighter.
Alan nodded with confidence. “Our advantage lies in the Savior’s extraordinary gifts, which go beyond normal limits.”
The Fire that Burns Everything. The Blade of Annihilation. The Invisible Cloak of Hermes. The Eye of Mysteries… these powerful combat methods were stirring restlessly, ready for battle.
“I see,” Xiu sneered. “So, the Babel Tower does have a sense of justice. It seems my decision not to join you was the right one after all.”
“You wanted me dead from the start, didn’t you?” he taunted, sensing their killing intent.
Without warning, Xiu unleashed his most powerful magic spell: “Cold Current!”
This elemental spell was one of the simplest to cast but capable of immense power. The entire room was instantly frozen, and the servant nearby was instantly killed. Xiu aimed for a large-scale attack, hoping to eliminate at least one enemy.
However, both Babel Tower agents vanished. Xiu realized they hadn’t fled, but were likely hiding or preparing to defend. He remained on high alert.
Muttering incantations, Xiu continued to cast spells, conjuring wind, fire, ice, and lightning to surround him in a defensive barrier. Suddenly, the figure of the sorcerer appeared out of nowhere, also muttering incantations.
Xiu’s eyes widened. “Is he using my spells?”
This was impossible. How could anyone else cast the same spells as him?
Alan’s eyes were now pure black, an abyss that seemed to contain the universe itself. A flood of information poured into his mind as he absorbed and assimilated it.
“I see now,” Alan whispered. “I understand everything.”
Using the Pupil of Mystery granted to him by Bai Yan, Alan quickly replicated Xiu’s spells and unleashed the Fire that Burns Everything. Black flames ignited around Xiu’s body. Despite his elaborate defenses, the flames tore through them, burning away wind, fire, water, and ice, leaving only ruin behind.
Xiu’s body was consumed by the relentless flames, but he managed to escape by transforming into water and fleeing to a safe distance.
Panting, he realized the black flames had not followed him. He muttered to himself, “The fire of sincerity… The fire of incineration… The fire of absolution… The fire of soul burning…”
Taboo spellcraft.
This would be his most advanced, destructive magic, and Xiu had decided to use it to eliminate his enemies once and for all. Though it would cost him, and many Capetian family members would die in the aftermath, he understood that it was a necessary sacrifice.
Alan, with his extensive battle experience, shouted, “Psychic Dancer, this is taboo spellcraft. This guy is insane! Be careful!”
Maryse nodded and quickly activated the Invisible Cloak of Hermes, preparing to vanish from sight.
Suddenly, Xiu raised his palm to the sky and shouted, “Black Day!”
The sky darkened, and a massive black-red fireball blotted out the sun. It fell, crashing onto the ground with catastrophic force, engulfing everything in flames. Many who couldn’t escape in time were burned to ash, but Xiu, as the caster, remained untouched by the inferno.
The explosion was immense, and half a block was obliterated in an instant. While most of the Capetian family had fled, some perished in the wake of Xiu’s attack.
Amidst the flames, Xiu stood coldly, his icy gaze surveying the destruction.
“Is it over?” he wondered.
But the extraordinary were always full of surprises. He knew better than to assume victory too soon.
Then, he felt dizzy. The forbidden spell had drained more energy than he expected, even for a Potential Crown-level individual.
“Splurt.”
In that moment of disorientation, a nearly invisible blade pierced through his chest. Xiu’s Relic ring failed to activate, and he collapsed, his body dissolving into smoke, leaving behind only disbelief.
“How… how could this happen?” he whispered in shock. “Why isn’t the Relic working?”
The Blade of Annihilation, a Civilization-level Relic, had sealed his fate.
Alan, now back from his teleportation, collapsed to one knee, exhausted. He looked around at the devastation.
“This is too much,” he said. “If I had chosen to defend, I would have died.”
Maryse, too, was far from unharmed. The teleportation caused by the Blade’s side effects had left her injured, but she was alive.
“Random teleportation… If it
takes you underground, you’ll
die instantly,” she thought. “But
that Relic’s one-hit-kill effect is
too much.”
Xiu was powerful, but the
Babel Tower’s agents had their
own extraordinary methods,
making his death inevitable.
Maryse sat down, covering her
wound. “At least it’s done. I
wonder if the Savior is
watching… Maybe I’ll get a
bonus for this?”
She sighed, wishing for more help.
Meanwhile, Bai Yan silently
observed everything unfold
through his phone.
“Mission completed
excellently,” he noted, though
Maryse’s injury caught his
attention.
He had initially planned to
oversee the operation
personally but realized that
wasn’t necessary. Blocking
Xiu’s communications with the
outside world was enough.
He believed in his agents’
strength, even if they were
outclassed by Potential Crown-
level enemies. They had
powerful combat techniques
and should have the upper
hand in battle.
And indeed, the notorious head
of the Capetian family had
fallen, the Wettin family had
surrendered, and the Augustus
family’s representative,
Phoenix, had defected.
Just then, a new prompt
appeared on Bai Yan’s phone:
“Game prompt: The
achievement system has been
activated!”
“The player obtained the new
achievement ‘Mastermind
behind the Lonely City’, legend
points +100!”
Bai Yan stared at the screen,
surprised. This achievement
system hadn’t been in the first
playthrough, but now, it had
appeared in the second.
He looked at the scene
unfolding, satisfied. The game
was progressing.
