Chapter 20: Psychic Dancer Maryse
“No, I need the Queen!” Bai Yan shook his head softly and stared at the phone, deep in thought.
“Psychic Dancer and Disguise Mask.”
Disguise Mask was a functional relic with the mysterious ability of “mimicry.” Anyone wearing it could alter their appearance. Though it inflicted no damage, the effect was incredibly powerful. The cost of using it was that… the wearer would be unable to communicate with the opposite sex for a period. Still, that wasn’t too serious.
‘I don’t want to give it to Nightsaber or Psychic Dancer…’ Bai Yan truly wished to use it himself, and he believed there must be a way to accomplish that.
He acquired a new operator, Psychic Dancer Maryse.
Her ultimate title was “Psychic Queen.” She was a cynical magic user with immense talent who gravitated toward extremes.
Bai Yan recalled that this young girl frequently caused problems, and occasionally she would do truly shocking things!
In the first round of the game, he made an incorrect choice, causing Psychic’s loyalty to crash.
“This little girl is troublesome. I need to train her properly.” After mumbling to himself, Bai Yan reviewed the information about Psychic Dancer Maryse.
He was approaching Babel Tower more seriously now. He would memorize all the information without taking physical notes.

Bai Yan contemplated quietly. Since Nightsaber existed in the real world, the Psychic Dancer must also be a real person.
“So, elves truly exist in this world.”
Everything in Tatsumi required money. The housing prices here were so extreme they could raise blood pressure. Nevertheless, there remained a large collection of high-end villas in the city center. People called it the Platinum Zone.
The residents of the Platinum Zone couldn’t simply be described as wealthy or noble. Rather, they were five extraordinarily powerful noble families who actually controlled Tatsumi.
There stood a magnificent mansion on the west side of Platinum Zone. Hundreds of servants worked in the verdant courtyard. They operated systematically, all clearly well-trained.
The side dining room of the villa.
Even as just a side dining room, it was quite elaborate. There were grand scaled steps, premium leather walls, and a dignified silver dragon gad.
A small blonde girl sat at the end of the long table in the dining room, with two rows of servants standing attentively on either side.
“Dinner is served, my lady,” a servant said, stepping forward with a bow.
“Hmm.” She nodded gently and examined the elegant knives and forks, considering which to select.
Maryse resembled an exquisite doll. Her long hair flowed like golden sand, and her eyes sparkled like green jade. Every movement carried an extraordinary grace.
The pointed elven ears distinguished her clearly from the surrounding servants.
She possessed an almost flawless appearance. The only imperfection might have been the flatness of certain areas of her body.
After Maryse picked up the cutlery with a smile, the servant began describing the dishes.
“My lady, we have your favorite Beluga caviar today.”
Maryse smiled and nodded. She took a small shell spoon and scooped some caviar. She placed it on buttered white bread before putting it in her mouth.
“It’s delicious!” The moment she smiled, the servants around her brightened.
Some of the new servants thought their young lady was adorable. She was practically an angel!
“This is the lamb chop prepared by Mr. Will. Please sample it. The meat is of the finest grade.”
“Alright.”
After a brief round, the servant asked a courteous question.
“Is there anything else you desire, my lady?” the servant inquired politely after Maryse had tasted the food.
Hearing this, Maryse set down her utensils. She looked unhappy.
“I want to dine with my parents.”
[Such a fragile shell. She lives such a privileged life. What if her family doesn’t care for her?]
Maryse glanced up at the new servant momentarily and smiled broadly. The man paused.
“I’m finished. I’ll return now,” she said suddenly.
[This little girl is so wasteful. So much food remains. Heh, really, only this face…]
[This monster must be reading minds again. I hate working around her.]
[Think nothing, think nothing, think nothing…]
Maryse maintained her smile as if she hadn’t heard anything. She returned to her bedroom in the corner of the villa.
The light red room spanned more than two hundred square feet, with a large pink bed at its center. Maryse’s personal maid, Irena, had been waiting for some time.
Irena was a delicate girl with black hair. She looked at Maryse and said, “You’re finally back, my lady. I apologize, I couldn’t join you for dinner today. I had matters to attend to.”
The smile vanished from Maryse’s face. She quickly recovered as if nothing had happened. “Ah, Irena, you’re here. I’m so frustrated!”
She sat on her large pink bed and sighed. “Those people are all disgusting. They act differently in public than in private. I can’t bear it!”
Irena sat beside her on the bed and stroked her hair comfortingly.
“You’ve been saying such things for years. Haven’t you grown accustomed to it?”
Maryse complained, “How could I possibly get used to it? Everyone I encounter is revolting. Only you, Irena, you’re different.”
“I’ll always be here for you, my lady.” Irena nodded.
[Your feet are so cute, my lady. May I have a little pinch?]
“Oh, stop it!”
Maryse turned and pinned Irena to the bed, tickling her personal maid’s sides with her gentle hands.
“Ahhhhhh, you win! Please!” Irene laughed.
[Really just a little girl. So gentle.]
Maryse pouted and said, “I’ll never speak to you again! Leave! Leave!”
Irena stood up and smiled at Maryse with a hint of pity in her eyes. She bowed. “I shall take my leave now.”
When Irena departed, Maryse’s smile faded again. She adopted a lifeless, vacant expression as if she were an empty shell. Clearly, she had lost all hope for her future.
For centuries, five “managers” had effectively controlled the city’s economy, security, healthcare, education, transportation, and more…
The Augustus family was the oldest and sole Elven family in Tatsumi. All previous family heads had become managers of Tatsumi… This had always been tradition.
The current patriarch of the Augustus family was known as the schemer. His methods were the most unpredictable and effective among all previous patriarchs. His true thoughts remained forever hidden.
Maryse had been incredibly beautiful as a child. She was the patriarch’s youngest and most cherished daughter, always the apple of her father’s eye.
Although she only saw her “Father” briefly each year, Maryse strived to be an exceptional noblewoman and make her father proud.
It wasn’t until her eighth birthday that Maryse excitedly and nervously told her father she could actually hear others’ thoughts!
“Dad, are you proud of me?”
Afterward… she remained the family’s daughter and enjoyed a perfect material existence. However, “father” never came within twenty feet of her again. Never celebrated another birthday with her.
And she became aware of tremendous malice and corruption.
She discovered the butler had been harassing the cook. The servant who attended her had spat in the dishes. Her “kind” uncle harbored disgusting thoughts about her. The trusted guards had orders to eliminate her if necessary…
Initially, Maryse would cry and question until she grew thoroughly disgusted and withdrew from her expanding circle of loved ones.
She eventually learned to conceal her true feelings.
In such surroundings, Maryse grew day by day. However, being a pure-blooded elf, she aged slowly and still appeared childlike.
Maryse stretched her small white hand toward the ceiling and muttered. “Ah, it’s so irritating. I want to destroy everything.”
She could see no hope for her future. The agony of hearing the truth would persist throughout her life until death. ‘Nobody else hears the truth. So I must be the problem, right?
The world never needed anything genuine.
So, should I descend into hell?’
[You have been chosen, Psychic Dancer.]
Maryse froze.
‘Who’s speaking?’
