Chapter 180: The Malice of the Outer God
Dawn District
Dawn District is home to the middle-income residents of Tatsumi City. Though not affluent, they enjoy stable jobs and manage to meet their basic needs.
Tatsumi City is known for its universities, commercial centers, hospitals, and parks, all situated in this district, making it a prosperous part of the city.
In fact, Dawn District was one of the first areas established in Tatsumi City, originally serving as a gathering point for the Air Alliance several hundred years ago. As the population grew, the district expanded and eventually became an independent city, now known as Tatsumi City.
The Night Watchers had already received troubling news from Babel Tower. The Balanced Saint, also known as the “Saint of Life and Death” from the Church of Ruins, is believed to have recently arrived in Tatsumi City, emerging from the Dawn District… which is quite strange.
Dawn District is the oldest urban area and sits in the heart of Tatsumi City. It doesn’t have any direct paths leading to the suburbs, making it theoretically impossible for the “Saint of Life and Death” to appear here if he were trying to sneak into the city.
But in a world where extraordinary powers exist, anything is possible, so the Night Watchers began searching the district. They also requested support from the Eyes of the Empire.
The Church of Ruins is a notorious cult organization, and their saint-level figures are rumored to be as powerful as “the Left Hand of Dark Light” — not something that the Tatsumi City Demon Hunt Agency could face on their own.
With the Demon Hunt Agency in a “honeymoon period” with Babel Tower, they trusted the information provided and sent several teams to Dawn District to prepare for any eventuality.
The Night Watchers had been patrolling all day, through the morning, afternoon, and into the evening, but they had found no trace of the “Saint of Life and Death.”
Their search methods included technology, extraordinary powers, and even the use of Relics.
“Could the intelligence be wrong?” some of the Night Watchers wondered, though they had no choice but to continue their search.
At that moment, Bai Yan himself was in Dawn District, using Mysterious Magic’s heightened senses to search for any sign of the “Saint of Life and Death.”
Yet, he had found nothing.
As twilight descended, Bai Yan stood calmly in a deserted garden, feeling the cool breeze on his face. He pulled out his black mobile phone and tapped on the third mission, “Raging Anger.”
“Raging Anger” was the third task in the large-scale event “Chaos of Equilibrium,” one Bai Yan had completed multiple times during his first playthrough.
“Well, from what I remember, this task follows a certain procedure,” he mused.
In Bai Yan’s memory, the “Church of Ruins,” an ancient cult, had three Balanced Saints, with the oldest and most powerful being the leader of the Church. All of them were powerful individuals with Crown-level abilities.
The “Saint of Life and Death” was the youngest of the three.
During Bai Yan’s first playthrough of the “Chaos of Equilibrium” Babel Tower game, one of the Balanced Saints appeared as the BOSS in Tatsumi City, but it was random which one.
Bai Yan had never fought the “Saint of Life and Death,” but he knew of him.
“Although I have never battled the ‘Saint of Life and Death,’ I remember the other two saints joining forces with local cultists upon arriving in Tatsumi City. As long as we find him, things will be much easier.”
Bai Yan was familiar with how things should unfold. As long as there were no surprises, he was confident he could handle everything.
Suddenly, Bai Yan froze, his eyes widening.
“What is going on here?”
He stared in disbelief at his phone screen. The task name was changing, and the game screen of “Babel Tower” was shaking.
This had never happened before!
To his horror, Bai Yan saw a golden eye staring at him from the phone.
A wave of extreme coldness surged through him, and goosebumps covered his skin. The sensation was akin to drowning in fear.
“It is Him.”
The Outer God.
The Pupil of Chaos, a great entity that once appeared in Bai Yan’s Self Dimension. Known as “the Ravager,” “the God of Chaos,” and “the Deep Gazer,” this Outer God was symbolized by a massive golden eye surrounded by black lines, representing chaos and the power to disrupt fate itself.
His representative time was 3:00 PM each day. The Pupil of Chaos symbolized the Outer God of “moths,” creatures that embody wildness, ferocity, and craving for chaos.
Several minutes passed, and the golden pupil faded from Bai Yan’s phone screen. The shivering Bai Yan briefly wondered if he’d imagined it, but he knew that was impossible.
His mind raced as he stared at the phone. The task name had fully changed from “Raging Anger” to “United as One.”
“United as One…”
A mission never seen before in the first playthrough!
“It really was Him…the Outer God who disrupted fate and altered what should have been an ordinary mission.”
A deep sense of malice settled over Bai Yan, and the autumn air, already growing colder, seemed to dip into a never-ending winter.
Through the experience of his first playthrough, Bai Yan knew that “knowing the future” was one of his greatest strengths.
But with the interference of the Outer God’s “Pupil of Chaos,” everything had changed. The mission, once familiar, was now unpredictable and dangerous.
Without a way to plan ahead, this disruption had significant consequences.
Bai Yan clicked on “United as One” to check the mission details.
“Activity Task.”
“United as One: The task requires repelling the attack of the Balanced Saint.”
“Please select Core Operator to join the battle.”
It seemed the goal wasn’t to capture the “Saint of Life and Death” but to drive him away.
After thinking it over, Bai Yan decided that the best choice for the mission was the strongest Core Operator available—”Nightsaber.”
Since the specifics of the mission were unclear, it was better to send the most capable operator.
“Assist me, Nightsaber.”
Meanwhile, Mu Ling was in the courtyard of her home, holding “The Heart of Death,” a jet-black blade once given to her by Bai Yan. The sword emitted a dense black mist that spread into the surrounding area, making the already withered leaves in the yard appear even more desolate.
The power of death radiated from the blade, roaring as it surged toward its owner.
The black mist was wild, trying to overwhelm Mu Ling, but her strength began to rise. The bloodline of demon hunters surged within her, and a phantom warrior, vast and steady, appeared beside her.
The mist, now powerless, could only whimper in defeat.
Mu Ling’s eyes gleamed with newfound determination as the lost life force was completely restored. The withered leaves in the yard regained their vitality, symbolizing her mastery of the new weapon.
Mu Ling had become a true contender, not just a “numerical monster.”
The reason the Core Operators of Babel Tower are so powerful isn’t simply because of Babel Tower’s selection; they are people with the potential to save the world. Babel Tower’s role is merely to transform “possibility” into “outcome.”
“Nightsaber, it’s up to you now.”
A familiar voice echoed in her mind.
She nodded.
The blade had been trained for this moment.
Kneeling with calm resolve, Mu Ling spoke firmly:
“Respected Savior, please let me defeat the evil next.”
