Chapter 163: First Experience
Amy was deeply shaken. A startling realization struck her like lightning—if she could travel to Tatsumi City of the Air Alliance through this mysterious door, did that mean others could also use their respective doors to enter the Night Union’s Ring City?
Her curiosity surged. Controlling her wheelchair, she passed through the door.
Clean air.
That was Amy’s first impression of Tatsumi City.
It was even fresher than the air on the 115th floor, where she and her family had finally moved. For as long as she could remember, she’d heard tales of people in the Air Alliance and the Eruo League breathing clean air directly, without purifiers or medication.
As a child, she had dismissed it as a myth. No one in her community believed such luxuries could be real.
Clean air? That cheap? Impossible.
But as Amy grew older and her knowledge expanded, she began to understand that such things were, in fact, true. And now, she was experiencing it herself.
She couldn’t help but marvel.
“Ordinary people here can breathe clean air… they even have access to pure water.”
She fell silent as her wheelchair moved forward, carrying her through unfamiliar streets.
Passersby cast curious glances at her. Her wheelchair, sleek and automated, seemed out of place in this city where the simplest technologies were still marvels.
Amy observed the surroundings carefully. Tatsumi City was nothing like Ring City, where people lived stacked upon one another in an endless vertical maze. Here, everything was open, and the streets were alive with activity.
She inhaled deeply, savoring the freshness of the air.
But Amy’s rational mind quickly tempered her awe.
She reminded herself of the reports she had read: while Tatsumi City seemed idyllic on the surface, it was no utopia. Beneath the façade, many people struggled, just like in the Night Union.
In truth, all societies in the Noah world shared the same foundation. The ruling elite thrived while the masses toiled.
Amy’s lips curled into a faint, bitter smile.
“Let’s focus on our own problems first.”
She turned her wheelchair back toward the mysterious door, still standing in the middle of the street. To her surprise, no one else seemed to notice its presence.
“Is it invisible to them?” Amy mused.
Suddenly, a truck hurtled down the road, heading straight for the door.
Amy’s instincts kicked in. She reached out with her “Cybertyrant” abilities to take control of the vehicle’s systems—
And froze in shock.
The truck had no electronic components. Not even the most rudimentary system for her to manipulate.
It was a completely analog machine.
The driver, noticing Amy in her wheelchair, slammed on the brakes and jumped out, running toward her.
“Hey! Are you alright? What are you doing in the middle of the road? Should I help you get to the sidewalk?”
Amy quickly composed herself and smiled.
“I’m fine, thank you.”
She maneuvered her wheelchair to the side of the road, watching as the truck drove past the door.
To her astonishment, the door and the truck seemed to exist on separate planes of reality. The two never intersected, even as the truck’s path took it directly through where the door stood.
Amy’s brow furrowed.
“Just what is this door…”
As Amy continued to explore, her wheelchair stopped at a bustling corner. She found herself overwhelmed by the differences in this city—a world largely disconnected from the omnipresent online systems she was accustomed to. Even the currency was physical.
She was lost in thought when a familiar voice broke through.
“Cybertyrant… Honestly, that nickname doesn’t suit you at all.”
Startled, Amy turned to see a young man in a black cloak, his handsome face adorned with a playful smile.
“Profligate?”
The man held two boxes of fruit cakes, handing one to Amy.
“Just passing through. Here, try these. They’re a specialty of Tatsumi City.”
Amy hesitated before accepting the box with her prosthetic arm. As the fragrance of the cakes wafted through the air, she was struck by the realization—these were made with real fruits.
Real fruits were a luxury in Ring City, reserved only for the highest elites.
She took a bite, savoring the sweet, vibrant flavor.
A smile spread across her face.
“For this moment… I truly thank the Savior. To experience something I might never have known in my lifetime—”
She paused, her gaze growing thoughtful.
“The future… it’s going to be fascinating.”
Bai Yan smiled. “Indeed. But more important than the future or the past is to stand firmly in the present.”
Amy nodded.
“Agreed. Then let’s discuss our next steps.”
Back in the Babel Tower’s hall, the group reconvened.
Amy shared her experiences with the Heart of Babel Tower, her excitement evident.
“Those doors… they connect us to other cities,” she explained. “Do you realize the implications of that?”
Alan’s mask concealed his surprise, but his voice betrayed him.
“If others discover these doors… their strategic value could shift the balance of power across the Noah world.”
The room fell silent as the weight of his words sank in.
Amy turned to the Savior, her expression resolute.
“My Lord, may we use these doors freely?”
The Savior’s reply was immediate.
[Yes.]
Amy smiled, reassured.
“Excellent.”
She then addressed the group.
“In two days, I need your help. There’s an exhibit on the 115th floor of the Ring City museum. A particular item there is crucial to me. I promise no harm will come to anyone.”
Her plea was met with mixed responses.
“I’ll help,” Mu Ling said.
“I might,” Maryse added with a smirk.
“I can’t,” Alan replied flatly.
Amy accepted their decisions gracefully but warned them of one thing.
“I have a feeling… we don’t have much time left.”
At that moment, the Savior’s voice echoed in their minds.
[You are right. Time is short.]
[The catastrophe that will destroy everything is only fifty-six days away.]
The room was filled with stunned silence as the Savior’s ominous words sank in.
Fifty-six days until the end of the world.
