Chapter 160: Dragon Singer · Psychic Dancer
The Cognition Filter had failed. Was it because of Mr. Savior? Mu Ling fell into quiet contemplation.
If the Savior intended this, there had to be a reason. She saw no need to worry herself. However, if the disappearance of the Cognition Filter wasn’t caused by the Savior, there was nothing she could do to stop it.
With too little information, Mu Ling decided to remain silent, accepting the curious stares of the growing crowd around her.
Soon, a family of three hurried toward her—a young couple and their little girl, no older than five or six.
“I really appreciate you. We wouldn’t have survived without your help that day,” the young mother said emotionally.
They were survivors of the Black Star Incident, nearly lost on that doomed school bus. The family knelt before Mu Ling in gratitude, tears streaming down their faces.
The sound of cameras clicking surrounded her. Mu Ling froze, momentarily disoriented. Social interaction had never been her strong suit, and she was wholly unprepared for such overwhelming gratitude.
“This is what I should do,” she murmured softly, almost inaudibly.
The young mother shook her head vehemently. “No. No one has to save others. What you did for us—what you risked—we’ll never forget it as long as we live!”
As Mu Ling tried to process the situation, the little girl stepped forward, curiosity sparkling in her eyes. The crowd held their breath, the tension palpable.
Would Mu Ling allow someone to approach her so closely?
The child reached out and gently touched the soft, silky fur of the unicorn standing beside Mu Ling. The mystical creature seemed unbothered, even pleased, by the innocent gesture.
The crowd relaxed, the tension dissipating. Encouraged, the young mother followed her daughter’s example, tentatively placing her hand on the unicorn’s flank.
Mu Ling immediately noticed the creature’s subtle expression of disdain, a look that only grew as the woman continued petting it. Despite its clear reluctance, the unicorn endured the attention for a short while.
However, when the little girl’s father stepped forward to do the same, the unicorn snorted loudly, fixing him with a disdainful glare.
“Humph!”
Startled, the man quickly backed away, hands raised in surrender.
“Alright, I’ll pass,” he muttered sheepishly.
Mu Ling suppressed a laugh, her lips curling into a faint smile. She shook her head, thinking, Truly a prideful creature. If she ever encountered resistance from it after marriage, she’d have to “persuade” it with her fists—just as the family’s animal taming guide advised.
Yet something felt off.
Why hadn’t the Demon Hunt Agency shown up yet? It wasn’t like them to leave Babel Tower unchecked.
What Mu Ling didn’t realize was that the Night Watchers had decided to adopt a new strategy. Engaging Babel Tower directly had proven futile, especially with the strange black mist that often surrounded its members.
Instead, they chose to observe from a distance, confident that the Tower’s members wouldn’t harm ordinary citizens.
Meanwhile, Bai Yan sat on a plush sofa, phone in hand, watching Mu Ling’s livestream. His sharp gaze flickered with interest as the events unfolded.
“Hmmm…”
At the same time, Maryse stood atop a high rooftop, practicing with her Deep Red – Divine Punishment. Two coins twirled deftly between her fingers as she focused her energy.
Suddenly, a familiar voice echoed in her mind:
[Psychic Dancer, you are about to discover new possibilities within yourself.]
Maryse froze, her frown deepening.
“Not this again… What now?”
To her alarm, her clothes began to blur and shift. Moments later, white patterns appeared on her skin, giving her an exotic, primal look.
“What the…?”
Maryse bolted down from the rooftop, barging into the living room of a nearby family’s home. Standing before their full-length mirror, she stared at her reflection, dumbfounded.
Her stylish attire had been replaced by a sleek leather outfit that left her limbs and midriff exposed. Her bare feet touched the cold floor, and intricate white patterns adorned her body.
“Darn it! It’s autumn!” Maryse growled, hugging herself against the chill.
Even worse, she discovered that she couldn’t wear any other clothes, no matter how hard she tried.
After a long sigh of resignation, she returned to the rooftop to test her new abilities.
Raising her hands dramatically to the sky, Maryse called out:
“Ha! Summon!”
A small, circular black hole materialized beside her, and out crawled a silver-white dragon no larger than a large dog. Its sleepy eyes, lazy demeanor, and yawning snout gave it an air of complete disinterest.
“What is this? A lazy puppy?”
Maryse sighed, scooping up the creature only for it to snooze in her arms, completely unbothered. Defeated, she set it back down.
Determined to try again, Maryse struck a different pose. Clasping her hands to her chest, she spread them wide and shouted:
“Ha! Summon!”
This time, a massive black
hole appeared, and out
emerged a fiery red dragon, its
body armored with blazing
scales and its eyes burning
with intensity. The air around it
crackled with power.
The red dragon roared
skyward, unleashing a wave of
draconic might that sent
tremors through the city.
People cowered in fear,
trembling at the overwhelming
presence.
Yet Maryse stood unfazed, a
gleeful smile on her lips.
“Finally, something strong!”
she cheered, rushing toward
the red dragon with the
excitement of a child.
At that moment, a golden
palace materialized among the
clouds above Tatsumi City.
Its grandeur and scale defied
imagination, its glittering
spires piercing the heavens,
and its brilliant golden hue
casting a radiant glow across
the city below.
The people of Tatsumi City
gazed up in awe, their faces
illuminated by the palace’s
divine splendor.
In that instant, a new chapter
of their lives began.
