Chapter 159: The Black Prince Nightsaber
In reality, the skins known as “Possibilities” served a critical purpose beyond altering the Core Operator’s ability sets.
When a Core Operator reached the “Crown” level, each “Possibility” became a source of necessary inspiration. This inspiration not only significantly enhanced combat effectiveness but also acted as a prerequisite for activating the true power of Apocalypse.
Apocalypse was a realm bordering on demi-godhood, far removed from the grasp of mortals. It represented a step closer to immortality—a feat unimaginable for most.
However, for Babel Tower, the immediate priority was finding a way for Core Operators to achieve the “Crown” level.
The Crown Ceremony
Only those who successfully completed the Crown Ceremony could ascend to the “Crown” level. The challenge wasn’t just completing the ceremony—it was identifying the right one.
Many potential candidates were left in frustration, attempting to mimic ceremonies suited to others. Even when they barely managed to complete such ceremonies, they often failed to advance to the “Crown” level.
This forced them to seek alternative ceremonies, their success reduced to trial and error.
Though all Crown Ceremonies theoretically facilitated ascension, their effectiveness varied drastically. For some, the odds were one in a million. For others, the path was nearly guaranteed.
Those unlucky enough to be stuck with the wrong ceremony often found their paths blocked forever.
Fortunately, the powerful organizations and ancient cults in Noah’s world possessed tools for pinpointing the ideal Crown Ceremony for their members. Whether through prophecy, divine guidance, or relics, these institutions provided access to otherwise unattainable resources.
This access to knowledge was what gave them their enduring strength.
Bai Yan, however, knew the true source of the answer: the Library of Ruina.
Each Core Operator’s optimal Crown Ceremony could be revealed through its vast repository. With its guidance, the ceremonies became not only identifiable but also attainable.
This was why Bai Yan prioritized the Library above all else. Ignoring it would lead to stagnation, obstructing advancement and awakening.
The game’s mechanics reflected this progression through highly exclusive and challenging missions required to complete the Crown Ceremony.
Without hesitation, Bai Yan opened the Library of Ruina on his phone.
Beep.
A dialogue box appeared, accompanied by a black prompt:
“Please enter the knowledge you wish to obtain.”
Bai Yan began typing:
“The ‘Crown Ceremony’ best suited for completion by Nightsaber.”
Reports suggested over a hundred known Crown Ceremonies existed in Noah’s world alone. Across the multiverse, the possibilities were infinite.
Fifty Source Energy Points were consumed.
The image of the library materialized on the screen, golden dots scattered across the interface. Bai Yan quickly located the answer.
There were three ceremonies available for Nightsaber.
Each offered varying difficulty and promotion probabilities:
A simpler ceremony with low promotion chances.
A highly difficult ceremony but nearly guaranteed success.
A moderately difficult ceremony with high success rates.
Bai Yan selected the third option. Its primary limitation was its timing—requiring completion on the 25th night of an odd-numbered month.
An 85% success rate wasn’t perfect, but it was ideal for Mu Ling to achieve the upgrade.
“The Library’s functionality is incredible,” Bai Yan thought, already planning to enhance Nightsaber to the Apocalypse level. His goal was to prepare for the Second Doomsday Crisis, ensuring the Operators were ready for Babel Tower’s late-stage challenges.
Although the crisis remained distant, Bai Yan always considered the long game.
With his decisions made, Bai Yan tested the new skins for Nightsaber and Psychic Dancer.
He left Cybertyrant’s skin untouched—it wasn’t designed for combat scenarios.
Mu Ling’s Transformation
Meanwhile, Mu Ling dressed in casual black attire and headed to a familiar café. Upon entering, she noticed a change—the manager was no longer the same.
A middle-aged man greeted her. The previous manager, Mr. Mu, had sold the shop a few days ago.
“Why?” Mu Ling asked, puzzled.
The new manager shrugged, explaining, “He sold it at a low price, only requesting the shop remain a café. Beyond that, I don’t know.”
Mu Ling nodded, accepting the explanation, and took a seat.
The manager, captivated by her beauty, added with a smile, “From now on, any coffee you order here is free.”
“Why?” Mu Ling frowned.
“Because it’s a benefit for beautiful women,” he replied, laughing as other customers entered.
Suddenly, a cold, familiar voice echoed in her mind:
“Your body is about to have new possibilities.”
Mu Ling immediately stood, leaving the café for a quieter space. The last transformation had left her wary—she didn’t want to unveil a strange new image in public.
She found a secluded park, autumn leaves falling around her.
The Black Prince Emerges
Her clothes began to shift, blurring into an elegant outfit.
She now wore white, form-fitting court attire, complete with a flowing cape. A knight’s sword hung at her waist, while silver pendants adorned her ears, and a black cross-shaped brooch rested on her chest.
Despite the “Black Prince” moniker, only the brooch bore the color black.
Mu Ling frowned, tugging at the tight chest area. Her hair, now cut short, added to her dissatisfaction.
“I can’t believe this…” she muttered.
She had always valued her long hair—it felt as if she had lost a part of herself.
A sudden burst of light interrupted her thoughts.
A majestic white unicorn descended from the sky, its body shimmering with silver light. The creature approached her, lowering its head in acknowledgment.
“Do you want me to ride you?” Mu Ling asked, climbing onto its back.
With a powerful leap, the unicorn soared into the sky, its wings spreading wide. Moments later, it teleported past a high-rise building, revealing its unique ability to traverse space.
Mu Ling drew her sword experimentally, slashing at the sky.
To her surprise, vibrant rainbows formed in its wake, illuminating the city with beautiful arcs.
“This is incredible,” she murmured, a smile spreading across her face as she experimented with the new power.
The unicorn landed gracefully in the city center, drawing a crowd.
“It’s her!” an old man suddenly exclaimed.
“The one who saved us!”
Mu Ling froze. Somehow, the Cognition Filter had failed.
