Chapter 145: Visiting the Vampire Again
Except for Miss Witch, who did not attend, all members of the 12th team were gathered. Even Black Vulture was resting on a wheelchair, being pushed by the big guy.
Adelaide shook her head, saying, “We shouldn’t target the Blood Clan so easily. There’s also the possibility of framing. Spells, rituals, demons, and relics can all extract blood from a body.”
Rien, the big guy, nodded in agreement, his face serious. “We can’t act rashly. I think the director understands that we must investigate before… seeking revenge.”
If the murderer of Feather was indeed a member of the Tatsumi City blood clan, there was no doubt that the Demon Hunt Agency would take action. They could force the blood clan to hand over the murderer, or escalate the situation and start a war against the clan.
But that depended entirely on whether the murderer truly belonged to the blood clan.
There were no witnesses, and no conclusive evidence, except for Feather’s blood being drained—an important clue.
“You’re right,” Bai Yan said calmly. “I only briefly touched Feather’s body during the personal mourning session and used the ‘connection’.”
Adelaide immediately asked, “What did you sense? Did you find any clues?”
“I did,” Bai Yan replied thoughtfully, recalling the moment. “Feather saw an old man before he died—someone in a black suit holding an umbrella. He might be the killer, but I couldn’t clearly see his face. Still, I could feel his immense power.”
The power was overwhelming.
Bai Yan remembered the old man clearly from his vision. The man’s aura was chilling, suffocating. It felt as if Bai Yan were standing before the essence of disaster itself.
Was this old man stronger than the “Emperor”? Bai Yan pondered, unsure. While he and Pastor could hold their own in a fight, if they encountered this old man, the best course of action would be to escape.
Bai Yan hesitated for a moment before whispering, “One more thing… that old man had a pair of golden serpent eyes.”
Adelaide was taken aback. “Golden snake pupils? That would mean the killer probably isn’t a member of the blood clan. But then again, it could be a disguise… hard to say.”
She sighed, adding, “Anyway, we must meet the leader of the blood clan. It would be best if we could see the Queen of the Scarlet Moon herself.”
Holly, surprised, asked, “Captain Adelaide, is this part of our team’s investigation?”
“No,” Adelaide replied. “But I can’t just stand by and do nothing.”
Holly immediately agreed. “Alright, we’ll come with you.”
Adelaide hesitated, but then raised her voice firmly, “Holly, big guy, you two should go back with Black Vulture. We’ll handle it from here.”
“Ah… okay.” Holly nodded reluctantly.
Half an hour later, the sky darkened. The black car pulled up outside the “Crimson” club. Bai Yan, sitting in the passenger seat, turned to look at his captain, his expression complex.
“Why me?” he asked. “Why not Holly or the big guy, whose combat abilities are stronger?”
“Because they can’t handle it,” Adelaide replied, meeting his gaze. “But you can. You have a… certain madness in you. I can see it.”
She continued, “Sometimes, strength isn’t the most important thing. After all, none of us could take down the Queen of the Scarlet Moon. It’s character that determines the direction of things.”
She finished speaking and got out of the car, with Bai Yan following her.
Four Blood Clan guards in black suits stepped forward, blocking their path.
“What are you here for?” one of them asked.
Rainwater splashed across Adelaide’s tall, striking figure as she advanced and spoke slowly. “We wish to see… the Queen of the Scarlet Moon.”
The guards paused, stunned. “That’s impossible.”
Adelaide’s tone grew colder. “We are Night Watchers from the Demon Hunt Agency. One of our members was killed by the Blood Clan recently. We need to know if you were responsible.”
“There’s nothing to discuss. Please leave,” the guards said, shaking their heads dismissively.
In Tatsumi City, most supernaturals would treat Night Watchers with respect, even offering gifts to avoid trouble. But the Blood Clan was different. With their powerful backing, they completely disregarded the Night Watchers’ authority.
Adelaide’s voice turned even colder as she summoned her ice gun.
“Hmph, I knew you would respond like this.”
The freezing cold surged, and the four Blood Clan guards found their feet frozen in place.
“What do you want?” one of them spat, trying to maintain his composure.
“This is Blood Clan territory!” another hissed. “If you touch us, when the Queen arrives, your entire family will perish!”
“You’re provoking the Blood Clan!” a third guard shouted.
Adelaide remained unfazed. “If you were ordinary humans, your bodies would likely suffer localized necrosis, but since you’re vampires, it shouldn’t be a problem… I assume.”
Bai Yan added, “Also, the so-called peace agreement between the Demon Hunt Agency and the Blood Clan? It never existed in the open.”
The two of them entered the club, ignoring the guards’ protests.
Inside, the club was bathed in bright lights, and drinks flowed freely. There weren’t many guests, but the few present were vampires, all wearing masks, and they looked at the uninvited guests with ill intent.
“Where is Marquis Scarlet?” Adelaide asked directly.
The vampires simply stared at her, cold and unresponsive.
Bai Yan sighed softly and reached for a nearby wall, using “Connection.” He searched for any clues but found nothing.
The only positive outcome was that Bai Yan learned the Queen of the Scarlet Moon had been here and what she looked like. He now knew more about her history and looked forward to meeting her one day.
“Let’s wait inside,” Adelaide said. “We’ll head to Marquis Scarlet’s office.”
Bai Yan nodded softly, and they made their way there.
Marquis Scarlet’s office was vast, with classical music playing softly in the background. The architecture was noble and elegant, covering at least three hundred square meters. But the office was empty, and the luxurious space was filled with oil paintings and sculptures—none of which caught their attention.
Bai Yan, familiar with the room from his “Night Visit to the Vampire” mission, felt something was off. There was a spell designed to alert intruders. It wouldn’t be long before Marquis Scarlet arrived.
Bai Yan suspected that this might be a setup. He even believed the Dark Light Church could be behind it, given their involvement in the “Babel Tower” game.
He also thought that Feather, the third squad leader, had witnessed a powerful member of the Dark Light Church unleash their power. That could explain everything.
But figuring it out was one thing—convincing the Demon Hunt Agency was another matter.
They waited, the minutes dragging on, until it was midnight. Outside, the rain grew heavier, and the window turned pitch black.
Still, there was no sign of Marquis Scarlet.
Adelaide frowned. “Something’s wrong. Why hasn’t he returned?”
“I don’t know,” Bai Yan replied, activating his powers. He took control of the cameras inside the club and checked the outside. To his surprise, all the Blood Clan members were kneeling.
A powerful figure had arrived. Was it… her?
Bai Yan hesitated. Perhaps they should retreat now.
Just then, Adelaide’s phone rang.
Startled, she answered it, hearing Raven Reaper’s voice. “Get out of there now. Several Blood Clan members have been killed. Someone’s accusing us, the Night Watchers. You’re in great danger.”
Bai Yan froze.
Here it comes.
Suddenly, a wand made of ice appeared in Adelaide’s hand, ready to strike.
“Don’t move.”
A cold female voice, accompanied by a faint scent, reached Bai Yan’s ears.
The fierce wind and rain outside raged on, unrelenting.
Both Bai Yan and Adelaide’s senses screamed a warning, a primal fear rising within them. Any movement would mean certain death.
For some unknown reason, their subconscious minds accepted this absurd truth. It was as if they could foresee the future in an instant.
Moving would be fatal.
Sweat poured down Adelaide’s face, but Bai Yan remained motionless, his gaze unwavering.
The woman standing behind them was someone Bai Yan had dreamed of—someone far too powerful for him to ever claim.
The Queen of the Scarlet Moon.
