Chapter 130: Sacrifice
The endless black tentacles, resembling despair rising from the depths of hell, attacked the perfect angel who had fallen into the mortal world.
Mu Ling’s Night Slashing Sword, with its extraordinary cutting ability, sliced through the tentacles effortlessly. Despite the thin yet unbreakable blade, more tentacles quickly emerged.
“…”
She was almost cornered, with the overwhelming dark tentacles rapidly filling the area.
They could easily crush an entire army in a matter of moments, leaving nowhere to hide. What use was speed against such an overwhelming force?
Mu Ling remained remarkably calm, her thoughts synchronized with her movements as she realized she was about to be surrounded. Without hesitation, she transformed into a black light, soaring off into the distance.
Her speed was a huge advantage. If Mu Ling needed to evade or delay, Abner wouldn’t be able to catch her.
“If you escape, I will destroy this area.”
Abner’s voice was laced with a vile threat as he watched the black dot in the sky.
In the next moment, he noticed numerous black tentacles surging toward the outskirts of the city center. Mr. Mystery clearly intended to massacre the ordinary citizens of Tatsumi City.
The first target was the bus. However, Mu Ling remained unfazed. She knew that she had already cut the ropes of the people on the bus, and they had escaped.
Still, she could not simply turn a blind eye. If things continued this way, the surrounding areas would be destroyed by these all-encompassing tentacles… although the damage would be minimal, as the Night Watchers would arrive soon.
Mr. Mystery was clearly trying to provoke her, pressuring her into a hasty confrontation. Mu Ling was acutely aware of his tactics.
Deep Blue World!
She rushed back into the heart of the tentacles without hesitation. The black sword light cut through the many obstacles, cutting its way directly to the calm figure of Abner.
Abner’s expression was eerily calm, as if he wasn’t facing defeat at all.
Once again, his head was severed by the black light!
But just then, Mu Ling felt something was amiss.
A massive purple glowing magic array appeared beneath Abner’s feet, its strange patterns resembling evil pupils, as if a terrifying creature was staring at her.
The constant pressure and eerie whispers made it hard for her to think clearly.
Mu Ling felt disoriented and momentarily paralyzed, unable to move.
“Your speed is impressive, but your attack positions are too predictable… As long as I set a trap in the right place, capturing you will be effortless.”
Abner multiplied into several figures nearby, each one splitting off to set a trap and use one as bait. They prepared a ritual in advance to control Mu Ling’s actions, waiting for her to approach.
Abner waved his hand.
The black tentacles rolled up and surged toward the immobilized Mu Ling.
In the next moment, the tentacle tips morphed into sharp blades, aiming to tear Mu Ling apart.
Mu Ling took a deep breath.
She began to consume her vitality, turning it into massive negative energy.
Desperately using “Nyx’s Cover” to its maximum capacity, she tried to disrupt the balance of the evil ritual beneath her.
The consequences of this would be dire. The force required to extract energy from a Civilization-level Relic was immense, and Mu Ling risked her life in the process.
An ethereal light surrounded her, as if the stars themselves were descending, turning the world into a beautiful Milky Way.
She knew that if she could defeat him here, she would face death without any regrets.
But by then, numerous tentacles had already reached her, blocking her entire view.
It was too late. Deep Blue World had not yet reached full potential…
Tactical Card: Collective Acceleration!
An external force arrived!
The ritual was completely disrupted, and Mu Ling vanished in a crucial moment. The next second, the black tentacles tore through the ground and destroyed everything in their path.
Her speed surged to an entirely new level.
In the blink of an eye, the vast tentacles were severed!
Several Abners quickly cast spells and summoned Relics, trying to control even the slightest movement of Mu Ling.
But before they could react, all were beheaded.
For a few fleeting moments, slashing attacks came at such speed that they were hard to follow.
Mu Ling reached her limit, her vitality almost drained as she staggered out from the mass of tentacles.
She looked at the bodies of the fallen and the writhing tentacles nearby.
It wasn’t over yet…
Abner’s body was now engulfed in black flames as he approached with numerous tentacles.
He moved like an evil spirit crawling from the depths of hell, step by step, advancing toward his goal.
He would never fall before achieving his dreams, burning with his soul and faith.
“I’ve won.”
His voice was slow and confident, while Mu Ling could only awkwardly retreat.
“However, you too are a strong believer, though misguided.”
‘If I kill her here, there will be enough time to complete the ceremony… The nearest Night Watcher is only minutes away,’ Abner thought with chilling calmness.
‘Master, I will not disappoint you.’
Mu Ling’s frantic outburst had already drained her vitality to the brink.
Even standing was a struggle; every movement brought immense pain.
Mu Ling’s eyes began to dilate as she watched Abner approach slowly.
Why wasn’t this demon-like presence falling?
Lord Savior… Mr. Savior, forgive me for failing you.
In those final moments, Mu Ling thought to herself, addressing the Savior as “Mr. Savior” with an intimacy akin to that with “Profligate.”
In the fierce competition between the two, both sides were on the verge of collapse, now within arm’s reach of each other.
Bang!
Mu Ling’s eyes widened. A coin pierced her flowing white hair just as Abner’s chest exploded!
Blood splattered!
Abner’s mind raced. Were these her reinforcements? A powerful neutral party member, or perhaps another from Babel Tower?
He reached for his power again, intending to let the black flames engulf Mu Ling, but his body was cleaved in half by the Night Slashing Sword. Mu Ling took another step, at the brink of her limit.
He could not fall here…
With little life left and his soul nearly consumed, he staggered to his feet again.
Bang! Bang!
Coins, fired from a kilometer away, struck Abner repeatedly, shattering half of his body. A high-speed, almost unstoppable flying girl was rushing toward them.
With her eyes closed, Maryse targeted her objective through psychic power. The coin in her hand unleashed the true power of “Deep Red – Divine Punishment.”
A high-speed, near-unstoppable, long-range attack struck the enemy!
“Great Seed of Chaos, you will destroy this illusory world, lead the people to reality, and we will attain eternal happiness in the real paradise…”
At that moment, Abner realized defeat was inevitable. Despite this, he calmly continued to recite his teachings, launching yet another attack at Mu Ling.
Deep Blue World!
Mu Ling cut through the incoming tentacles with her remaining strength, dropping to one knee in exhaustion.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang…
The three coins that had once passed through Abner’s body returned, striking him once more, shattering him entirely.
Finally, Mr. Mystery’s remaining life force in this area was extinguished.
The black tentacles in the sky shattered and vanished like snowflakes in the wind.
Mu Ling gazed at her dead enemy, a complex mix of emotions welling up inside her.
I have achieved…
Mom, Dad… thank you.
If I get another chance…
I will step toward a new tomorrow.
She collapsed as the Night Slashing Sword, formed from yin energy, dissipated. Her body grew cold, death approaching.
Mu Ling felt little regret, knowing she had accomplished nearly everything she set out to do: defeating Mr. Mystery and saving the city.
If there was one regret…
She hadn’t had time to have children, and her family would perish as a result.
Maryse, shocked and disoriented, walked over to her dying friend.
“Don’t die!”
Maryse knelt beside Mu Ling, her heart surging with anger and fear.
Unacceptable!
Few could enter Maryse’s inner world, but those who did became an invaluable treasure to her.
In a different timeline, she might even have rebelled against Babel Tower for the death of her friend.
“You can’t die! How can you die here? Aren’t you supposed to be a hero?” Maryse shouted, her voice wild and desperate.
I only have two friends! How can you die here?
“Traitor!”
The overwhelming emotional surge triggered an immense rise in psychic power. Maryse placed her hand over Mu Ling’s chest, desperately infusing her with life-force energy!
Her mind flared to life.
Blood flowed from Mu Ling’s seven orifices as her body shook violently.
Maryse’s extreme psychic power, fueled by intense emotion, caused the impossible to happen.
Mu Ling began to show signs of life.
A few minutes later, Maryse found herself alone in a dark alley, weak and exhausted. She slumped against the wall, blood on her face and her eyes empty. It was clear she had reached the end of her strength.
“It seems… I’ve gone too far… I shouldn’t have infused so much… it was foolish.”
In her emotional excitement, Maryse had used her special skill, “Heart Burst,” for the first time, going beyond her limits. She had overdone it.
And this wasn’t part of the “pre-determined script.”
According to the original script, all Babel Tower members should have died, with Mr. Mystery emerging victorious.
But in the past two hours, Bai Yab’s interference caused too many changes, which neither he nor anyone else had predicted.
“If Mu Ling thought she was the reason for my death… she’d regret it for life… no, that won’t happen.”
If she died here, no one would discover her.
The lonesome girl closed her eyes, her life slipping away.
Psychic Dancer had died.
Had she not died?
Why…
It must have been Mr. Savior, he had saved her again.
Feeling weak, Mu Ling gradually opened her eyes, confused, and suddenly found that people were surrounding her, more and more people.
They were the people living in this city, old and young, men and women… Each of them silently gazed at the newly woken girl, eyes fixed.
In the dark night, people spontaneously gathered around the girl who looked like a falling angel.
Mu Ling vividly realized that pairs of eyes were all watching her.
She discovered that on people’s faces, there were complex emotions like curiosity, respect, pity, gratitude, and they all converged here, expressing their goodwill towards the hunter girl.
“She sacrificed herself for us…”
“Look at this girl’s face, she’s still so young.”
“She is of a similar age to my daughter.”
“But she saved us, a true hero, and we all owe her so much gratitude.”
The crowd knelt one by one to pray for the hero who saved everything. Mu Ling lay quietly among the kneeling crowd, wanting to shake her head but feeling incredibly weary, unable to even move a finger.
No… the person who saved everything is not me, but the Savior of Babel Tower.
Adelaide, Holly, and the big guy stood on the outskirts of the crowd. They came to provide rescue efforts, but of course, capturing Babel Tower members was also a very important task.
“Maybe we should fight another time, captain. I really don’t want to kick someone while they’re down.”
With her small face lifted, Holly grabbed onto Adelaide’s sleeve and begged.
The big guy also looked at Adelaide with a pleading gaze.
“Let’s go.”
“The matters here have already concluded, and there are no suspicious individuals present. Let us depart.”
Adelaide calmly lit a cigarette and turned around.
