Chapter 8: After School Date 1

After that, we went back to the classroom as usual, but for some reason, the three of them were exchanging intense glances.

I wonder if something happened.

Classes went by lazily, and then it was after school.

“Onee-sama! Let’s go!!”

She had suggested earlier that we go look for some recommended books after school, so she seemed pretty excited. I packed the bare minimum of textbooks into my bag and left the classroom.

I heard one of my classmates click their tongue. Well, it couldn’t be helped since the Leader of the Class had been taken away. Maybe I should come up with a strategy next time…

Just as I was leaving the classroom, I happened to bump into Mayuki-chan.

With that, Mayuki-chan dashed off to the library. As she ran, the two “bombs” attached to her chest bounced wildly. Kaori was glaring.

Once again, I coincidentally ran into Kaibou-san.

“I’m sorry, but I have some family matters to attend to today, so I won’t be able to accompany you…”

“No… I don’t really need any accompaniment…”

I subtly put some distance between us.

Her speech was oddly broken, so she was definitely up to something, right…?

With a resigned sigh, we headed toward the nearby bookstore.

Currently, we were on our way to the bookstore, but Kaori was clinging to my right arm, rubbing her cheek against it. Sometimes she would sniff it too. It was a bit embarrassing.

The number of people on the street was increasing, and many were glancing our way. They were probably wondering why a beautiful girl like her was clinging to someone as plain as me. I’m sure they had plenty of other questions too.

“Uh… Kaori…?”

I called out to her, who seemed to have forgotten herself.

As expected, there was no response. Well, I guess there’s no point in expecting a response when she’s lost in her own world.

We arrived at the bookstore closest to the school, and I finally had Kaori let go of my arm. As she let go, she gave me a longing look.

We wandered around the light novel section inside the store.

“If it’s something you pick, Onee-sama, then anything’s fine by me!”

Kaori gave a big grin and a thumbs-up.
Kaori has always been an outdoorsy type, hasn’t she? It’s written all over her aura.

“In that case, something too complicated might be too soon for you… How about this?”
“This one?”

What I picked up was an isekai fantasy. To summarize, it’s about someone who reincarnates as a jelly-like monster in a fantasy world. If I say that much, you probably know what I’m talking about.

“The story is interesting, and you won’t get bored.”
“Alright, I’ll go buy it!!”
“Hey, wait a———”

Kaori dashed off to buy the novel. I was left frozen, hand outstretched in the direction she ran.

“…I had more recommendations though…”
