Chapter 1152 Gilgamesh’s Illness

In the courtyard.

The Golden Cudgel and the long sword collided in the air with astonishing frequency. Under the violent clash of two divine powers, Gilgamesh in his gray robe was forced to retreat repeatedly.

Sun Wukong’s tattered kasaya fluttered as his momentum grew stronger with each exchange. His dazzling golden light burned like the blazing sun. He was like a war god, with the Buddhist light and demonic aura around him rotating slowly like yin and yang, crushing Gilgamesh’s domineering divine power.

“It’s been like this recently,” Li Yifei said while eating sunflower seeds after hearing Lin Qiye’s words.

“For the past half month, whenever these two fight, Gigi King hasn’t won a single match. You can tell from the bets they place—almost everyone favors Brother Monkey.”

Lin Qiye stared intently at the battlefield and after a moment, found the problem and sighed deeply:

“Ultimately, it’s not that Gilgamesh is weak… but that during this period, Monkey has become stronger.”

“Isn’t that right? Look at Brother Monkey’s style—I feel he’s much more fierce than the Great Sage Equaling Heaven portrayed in TV dramas. If the Monkey King in those shows were really this strong, then his ability to cause havoc in heaven and directly challenge the Jade Emperor would actually make sense.”

Li Yifei couldn’t help but marvel.

Lin Qiye remained silent, quietly watching the progress bar above Sun Wukong’s head.

“Sun Wukong Treatment Progress: 90%”

It had already risen to 90%… Now Sun Wukong’s treatment progress had surpassed Bragi’s 86%, making him the healthiest patient in the entire hospital.

At this rate, could Brother Monkey be discharged before Bragi?

In contrast, Gilgamesh, who was currently fighting with Sun Wukong, had seen his progress bar increase somewhat from the medication treatment during this period, but it still remained at 42%, not even breaking the 50% threshold. His discharge still seemed far away.

Of course, the one with the dimmest hope for discharge was Yelandie.

Lin Qiye looked up toward the top of the ward building. Behind the railing, Yelandie, draped in a white cloud garment, was looking down at the courtyard battle, his aged face full of gentleness and kindness.

Boom—!

A loud explosion came from the courtyard as Gilgamesh’s figure was struck by the Golden Cudgel and sent flying backward, crashing heavily onto the ground.

This battle, too, ended with Gilgamesh’s defeat.

Bragi promptly stopped his performance, hugged his harp, and quickly walked over to crouch beside Gilgamesh, blinking his eyes.

“Hey, are you alright?”

Gilgamesh frowned, slowly getting up from the ground, and gave him a cold glance. “The king does not need your concern.”

His gaze swept across Sun Wukong, who stood opposite him carrying the Golden Cudgel and staring back. He snorted coldly and turned to walk back to his room.

Seeing this, Li Yifei stopped eating sunflower seeds, scratched his head, and looked at Lin Qiye:

“Seven, shouldn’t you go handle this?”

“Handle? How am I supposed to handle this?” Lin Qiye said helplessly. “They’re sparring by mutual consent—I shouldn’t interfere.”

“But with Gigi King’s personality, I feel like constantly getting beaten up will cause problems. Why don’t you talk to Brother Monkey and ask him to hold back a bit next time?”

Lin Qiye firmly shook his head:

“No, Gilgamesh is after all the Ancient King—he has that much dignity. If Brother Monkey actually held back, that would really cause problems. It would be an insult to him.”

After Lin Qiye finished speaking, he watched Gilgamesh’s retreating figure in silence.

A moment later, he stood up from his small stool and brushed off the sunflower seed shells from his clothes. “I’ll go check on him.”

…

Lin Qiye stood at the door of Room Five and gently knocked.

Without waiting for Gilgamesh to respond from inside, he turned the handle and walked straight in.

The window in the room wasn’t closed. Gilgamesh, wearing a gray robe, stood quietly by the window. He turned his head and frowned at Lin Qiye as he entered, saying in a deep voice:

“The king has not yet spoken. Who gave you permission to enter?”

“If I waited for you to refuse, it would be too late,” Lin Qiye said with his hands in the pockets of his white coat as he walked to the window and looked at the scenery outside. “How’s your condition lately?”

“The king is not ill!” Gilgamesh’s expression was somewhat hostile. “If this were in Uruk of old, just for that statement alone, you would have died ten times over.”

“…Then let me rephrase.”

Lin Qiye looked at him seriously. “Now, can you distinguish between fantasy and reality?”

Gilgamesh fell silent.

After a long while, he finally said slowly, “The king… the king does not know.”

“You don’t know?” Lin Qiye frowned. “Either you can distinguish or you can’t… how can you not know?”

“The king knows this is no longer Uruk, but whenever I try to recall what happened in those years, my thoughts become chaotic… as if someone is constantly stuffing confused memories into the king’s mind.”

Gilgamesh slowly closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “The king is not a coward who avoids reality, but whenever these chaotic memories appear, the king falls back into a daze. Only when fully immersed in battle can I temporarily regain clarity.”

Hearing these words, Lin Qiye’s expression gradually became solemn.

From the very beginning of Gilgamesh’s treatment, Lin Qiye had believed that with the Ancient King’s temperament and magnanimity, he shouldn’t have fallen into self-degradation or succumbed to false fantasies.

After forcibly awakening his consciousness, Gilgamesh appeared to have no symptoms other than arrogance, but regardless, the hospital’s treatment progress bar doesn’t lie.

A progress of 42% meant his illness had only been partially cured. As long as it didn’t break 50%, it meant the most important root of the disease had not been discovered.

Now it seemed the key to the matter must lie in what he called “stuffing confused memories.”

But Lin Qiye couldn’t recall anything similar mentioned in Dr. Li’s notes, no matter how hard he tried.

Could it be… that the problem wasn’t actually in Gilgamesh’s mind?

Lin Qiye fell into deep thought.

For instance, Merlin’s multiple personality disorder wasn’t simply a mental illness. Ultimately, it was caused by an external alien soul invasion leading to mental instability. Could Gilgamesh be facing a similar situation?

If that were true… then what exactly was continuously feeding him these chaotic memories?

Lin Qiye thought for a long time but couldn’t come up with any ideas. He could only nod and say, “I understand. I’ll go back and research this… If you’re really troubled by these memories, you can fight with Brother Monkey more often. He would probably be happy to help.”

With that, Lin Qiye walked out of Room Five.
