Chapter 98: There’s No Way They’re Going To Give Me Money, Not In This Lifetime
The clothes look nice, the little shoes are eye-catching, but they still feel too thin on the cold winter streets.
It didn’t take long before Qin Yunxi started to regret it.
The cold winter wind was relentless, constantly creeping in from the cuffs and collar of her clothes.
Cold!
That was the only word her mind could think of at that moment.
She huddled her neck and, recalling the route she had memorized from the computer, made her way from home to the nearest bus stop.
Apart from the lonely bus stop sign and the sunshade shelter with an advertisement on it, the surroundings were empty.
Qin Yunxi walked around the bus stop, but didn’t find anything resembling a sensor.
Finally, she reluctantly sat on the bench at the stop, placing her hands on her knees. The bench felt cold beneath her, and the temperature of her body seemed to drop steadily.
Her home was in a more secluded area, and the bus that passed this stop only came twice. When the bus saw her sitting there, it would surely know she was waiting for it.
Ten minutes passed, and Qin Yunxi, who had been sitting upright, was now hugging her arms, shivering uncontrollably.
She occasionally glanced cautiously towards her home, and then at the end of the road, starting to doubt whether she was waiting for the bus in the wrong way.
She also worried about when her parents would notice she was missing, feeling conflicted—both afraid of being discovered and of not being found.
Without realizing it, twenty minutes passed. Her body felt even colder, and she even wondered if she didn’t have to intentionally end her life—she might just collapse here at this lonely bus stop, far from the city, without ever having to take action.
But this place was too close to home. Even if she collapsed, she would be found and eventually taken to the hospital.
Finally, the bus arrived!
Once on the bus, the driver asked her to pay. She searched all over her body but found not a single coin.
Fortunately, a boy sitting nearby paid for her.
So, she sat beside him.
During the ride, the boy kept sneaking glances at her.
In fact, many people in the bus were secretly watching her.
However, she remained sitting very properly, not saying a word.
The warm air on the bus gradually brought her body temperature back up, and a comfortable feeling washed over her. It felt as though just sitting on the bus, enjoying this comfort, was enough.
She didn’t know where her destination should be. Binhai was a coastal city, so she should find a beach and jump in.
But if she jumped into the sea, what would happen to her suicide note? What if no one found it?
Perhaps even her body wouldn’t be found, washed away to some unknown place by the sea.
The bus moved slowly, and when it arrived at Binhai Park, she got off.
She seemed to remember hearing somewhere that there was a small lake in the center of Binhai Park, surrounded by benches and flower beds.
Dying in such a place seemed like it might be better than jumping into the sea.
But how to actually do it? The girl started to hesitate in her mind.
The suicide note certainly couldn’t just stay in her pocket.
When people fished her out of the lake, the paper would be soggy and wrinkled, and it would be impossible to read the words on it.
If she left it on the bench, it might be mistaken for trash by the cleaning lady or picked up by a passing child who would fold it into a paper airplane.
Also, with so many people around, what if she was saved after jumping?
Based on her experience swimming in the family pool, just jumping into the water wouldn’t make her sink.
The sun was shining brightly, warming her, much more comfortably than when she first left the house. The wind was also gentler than when she had sneaked out.
She sat quietly on the bench, waiting for the right moment.
The warm winter day gradually faded, the sky’s color changing from clear blue to orange-yellow, and then to purple.
The number of people in the park went from few to many, then back to fewer again.
However, there were still a few couples walking by her side. Every now and then, the men’s gazes would fall on her, only to be pinched sharply on the ear by their female companions, who wouldn’t allow them to approach and strike up a conversation.
Some couples, for reasons unknown, had crawled into the roadside bushes and were making sounds that were hard to understand but made Qin Yunxi blush.
She looked at her watch, the midnight bell had already rung in the park, and it was now past twelve o’clock.
Christmas had arrived, and it seemed that in celebration of the holiday, snowflakes began to gently fall from the sky.
Apart from her, there was one other person sitting on the bench next to hers.
It was a little girl, dressed in a light blue coat, her collar hiding her face, with dazzling golden hair.
Qin Yunxi found it a bit strange. A little girl of that age, sitting here alone—was she waiting for her parents, or was she a lost child?
She couldn’t help but shiver.
Then, she wondered whether she should help the girl. After all, she was about to die anyway, so doing one last good deed before she passed wouldn’t be so bad.
However, she felt that she was probably going to freeze to death first.
Qin Yunxi rubbed her hands together, trying to regain at least a little warmth.
But it didn’t seem to have much effect.
She then stood up and walked towards the little girl, trying her best to straighten her posture and not let herself shiver, standing in front of her in a lively manner.
After all, from her appearance, she should at least appear to be an older sister, someone reliable enough to make the little sister feel at ease.
The girl lifted her head, her face emerging from under the collar.
The streetlight illuminated her hair and face, making her hair shimmer even more brightly. Qin Yunxi’s first reaction was that the girl was so cute.
Then, she extended her hand.
“Little sister, why are you out here all alone so late? Are you lost? Tell your big sister, and I’ll take you home…”
Though she tried hard to suppress her almost frozen body’s tremors, her voice still quivered slightly.
The girl stared at her for a while before speaking.
“Hmm~ Big sister, how come you’re sitting alone on a park bench so late? It’s already Christmas today. Big sister isn’t single at this age, right~?”
Qin Yunxi’s expression suddenly darkened. Her parents were so controlling, even dictating what kind of friends she could have, let alone any romantic relationships.
“I’m preparing to commit suicide. This is my suicide note. Could you do me a favor and give it to my family?” she said.
As she sighed in relief, she took out the suicide note, and the girl’s reaction didn’t seem to indicate that she was a lost child.
“Suicide?”
The little girl tilted her head, studying Qin Yunxi carefully.
“Why would anyone listen to your big sister? If life is hard, and you choose to commit suicide, then you’re just being pathetic!”
“If you give this to them, they’ll give you money,” she said.
“Are you sure?” The girl asked back.
What kind of family would push their own daughter to the point of suicide?
Could she be sure that bringing the suicide note back would only result in endless questioning and difficulties?
The little girl could already imagine that if she listened to the big sister in front of her, and took the so-called last request, she would be met with questions like, “Why didn’t you stop her?” or “Why didn’t you contact us sooner?”
Giving money? That’s never going to happen, not in this lifetime.
“I can write on it how much you need, and they’ll give it to you!” Qin Yunxi said seriously, then fumbled around her body, her expression a little embarrassed.
She had sneaked out so hastily today that she hadn’t even brought her phone, let alone a pen.
