Chapter 59: Police Woman
As she walked, Ye Xiao suddenly remembered that she had used her phone’s emergency SOS function to send a distress message to the police.
Picking up her phone, she saw that her pre-set SOS alert message had been sent to the police, including her current GPS location coordinates.
Ye Xiao hadn’t walked far when she noticed a police car, sirens blaring, driving toward the spot where she had been surrounded by the gang members.
Police officers always seem to show up just after things have wrapped up. Just then, Ye Xiao’s phone rang.
“Hello, is this Mrs. Ye Xiao? We received your emergency alert message and have dispatched officers to the scene. If you’re still nearby, please come to the Binhai City Police Department to assist with the investigation. Thank you for your cooperation.”
The voice was formal, but pleasant—definitely a female officer!
“Could I ask, big sister officer, if I come to give my statement at the station, will it be you who assists me?” Ye Xiao replied playfully.
The officer on the line paused in surprise, not expecting such a response from Ye Xiao.
“Yes, Mrs. Ye, if the alert is accurate, you are the victim here. You just need to help us by providing a statement.”
If the officer were male, Ye Xiao would have cooperated reluctantly, but with a female officer, it was a whole different story.
“Ye Xiao, oh Ye Xiao, were you just born to fall for women?” she muttered to herself, mildly chiding her own behavior.
Without a second thought, she turned around and headed back to the scene of the incident.
“Officers, were you looking for me?” Ye Xiao covered her mouth, giggling softly.
“You’re the one who reported this incident?”
The officer gave Ye Xiao a once-over and then glanced at the three gang members lying on the ground. He couldn’t quite match the image of these three thugs being taken down by a cute girl like Ye Xiao.
“Yes, and these older brothers here are utterly useless. There were five of them, trying to do something to me, but they proved just how fitting it is for them to be called the lowest of the low,” she sneered.
“Please come with us to assist with our investigation and provide a statement.”
Without waiting for further instructions, Ye Xiao had already opened the police car’s door and sat in the back, pulling out a lollipop from who knows where and sticking it in her mouth.
She patted the backseat with impatience, urging the officers to get going. The officers exchanged amused glances—rarely did they encounter such an eager, cooperative little lady.
“Behave yourselves!” one officer barked, loading the three gang members into another patrol car.
The snowy roads made for a slow drive, but Binhai Police Station was relatively close, so within about fifteen minutes, Ye Xiao arrived with the officers. Curious, she looked around the station.
“Hey, Officer Uncle, where’s that lady officer who talked to me on the phone?”
The officer chuckled.
“What’s this? She’s an older sister, and I’m an uncle? Call me Officer Big Brother, and maybe I’ll tell you!”
This officer, named Cao An, had joined the police force at the same time as Liu Nanxi, the female officer Ye Xiao was asking about. However, while Liu Nanxi got called older sister, Ye Xiao had immediately dubbed him uncle.
Ye Xiao looked so innocent that she was clearly not the villainous type, while the gang members, already known to the police, were a different story.
“Officer, we’re innocent! We weren’t going to do anything bad. We just thought she looked cute and wanted to show her some fish,” one gang member pleaded.
“Be quiet. Whether you’re innocent or not, we’ll determine that ourselves. We, as law enforcement, won’t wrongfully accuse a good person, nor will we let a bad person off the hook.”
Ye Xiao rolled her eyes at the usual spiel. While the saying sounds noble, getting that result is often close to impossible.
Not that Ye Xiao expected these thugs to reveal anything about their boss behind the scenes. If it were that easy, her opponent wouldn’t be a “chosen one”.
At that moment, a policewoman with an air of strength and confidence walked in, and her eyes sparkled when she saw Ye Xiao. Police or not, girls are often drawn to cute things.
“Nanxi, there you are. This young lady said she was looking for you. You can take over her statement.”
“Got it. I’ll handle it.”
“Hi, Officer Older Sister! Your voice is even better in person than on the phone,” Ye Xiao praised cheerfully.
Inside the police station, it wasn’t a place for showing off. So, Ye Xiao instantly put on her best-behaved look. It didn’t take long for her to finish her statement.
“Officer Sister, what will happen to those men?” she asked.
“For disturbing the peace and disrupting public order, they could face up to five years in prison, detention, or controlled release if the charges are serious.”
“That’s quite a sentence!”
“You’re very kind to be thinking about that. You managed to protect yourself, but if you face a situation like this again, don’t hesitate to contact me directly!”
Liu Nanxi said, handing her contact information to Ye Xiao.
Ye Xiao accepted it gladly. Having another connection like this was a valuable asset, given her position against a “chosen one”.
“No, I was actually wondering how to ensure they’d serve the full five years. People like them should be reformed through hard labor,” Ye Xiao replied, tilting her head thoughtfully.
“That… may be difficult. Given the situation, there were no serious consequences, so they’ll likely only be held for 15 days.”
“I see…”
Ye Xiao nodded, understanding. After all, she hadn’t been harmed, and it was the thugs who had ended up on the ground.
“I’m almost off duty now. I heard there were two more members of that gang. Would you like me to escort you home?” Liu Nanxi offered.
“Sure thing, Older Sister Nanxi!”
Ye Xiao agreed, nodding sweetly. If Shen Yunchu and the others saw Ye Xiao like this, they would probably be shocked. They have never seen Ye Xiao so obedient.
