Chapter 53: MC Is Just That Awesome!
The next morning, Ye Xiao was woken up by Ye Youran. However, her expression didn’t look too pleasant.
Last night, Ye Xiao had been on edge after launching her game, repeatedly refreshing to see if it had been approved, but without any sign of progress. She didn’t sleep well as a result.
“Sister, stop shaking me, I’m up! I’m getting up!”
Ye Xiao, looking groggy and not fully awake, was a stark contrast to her usual haughty and mocking self.
As Ye Youran dragged her to the living room, she was met with a rather unimpressed look from her sister.
“Ye Xiao, what did you do? Why are all of Binhai City’s available billboards plastered with ads for your game this morning?”
Ye Youran frowned, a suspicion forming in her mind. This wasn’t just a waste of money—if they had the cash to spend on ad space, they might as well give it to her directly, she could enjoy herself for quite some time with that amount.
“It’s nothing. I just told Sister Ruoxue about our game launch and asked her to find a way to drop a hint to Gu Tingyuan. I didn’t expect him to act so quickly.”
Ye Xiao rubbed her tired eyes and replied casually.
“Ye Xiao, what am I supposed to say to you? I have no desire to be tangled up with Gu Tingyuan, and now, even if we have nothing to do with him, people are going to think we do!”
“Isn’t that a good thing? Now that we’ve got the Gu family tied to us, our Yun-Xiao business in Binhai will be unstoppable. People will have to take the Gu family into consideration whenever they deal with us.”
Ye Xiao shrugged, unfazed. She was simply making the best use of her resources, and basking in the halo of a Chosen One was a nice bonus.
“If that were true, fine. But what does Yun-Xiao actually have to do with the Gu family?”
Ye Youran grew more frustrated. Every time she thought of Gu Tingyuan, she felt annoyed. Back then, she had gone abroad because he’d dumped her.
But to everyone else, Gu Tingyuan somehow came off as the victim. He built up a reputation in Binhai as a steadfast, devoted person, and even married Su Ruoxue, a woman who looked somewhat similar to her.
If she hadn’t been the one directly involved, she might’ve believed Gu Tingyuan’s whole “tragic lover” act.
Ye Xiao thought it was ridiculous too.
This wasn’t some drama like “Silent Separation”.
Besides, Gu Tingyuan didn’t wait for Ye Youran, he married Su Ruoxue.
Suddenly, a thought flashed across Ye Xiao’s mind. Or… did he wait, in a way?
While spending time with Sister Ruoxue, Ye Xiao had discovered that despite being married for 3 years, Gu Tingyuan hadn’t even crossed that final line with her. Was this his way of remaining “loyal” to Ye Youran?
This wasn’t just absurd, it was beyond absurd!
Then why did he even get married?
If he hadn’t dumped her sister back then, maybe by now she’d be the Chosen One’s little sister-in-law.
Ye Xiao really couldn’t figure out what went through Gu Tingyuan’s mind.
This man was absurdly self-deluded and just plain ridiculous!
At 183 cm, drop-dead handsome, Gu Tingyuan had girls falling over themselves with all kinds of schemes to get his attention.
Even on flights or during speeches, beauties of different backgrounds and ethnicities would approach him, asking for his number.
It was almost laughably hard to believe.
But if that’s how things were, why did he frame Su Ruoxue, ruining her reputation and making her the target of public scorn?
Ye Xiao even started wondering if there was something off about Gu Tingyuan’s preferences. What did he stand to gain from all this?
As for any dirt on Gu Tingyuan?
Ye Xiao mentally reviewed her information but didn’t find anything on him. The only possible scandal would be a future affair, but that hadn’t happened yet.
That self-staged “infidelity” incident was probably the only black mark she held against Gu Tingyuan.
But Ye Xiao wasn’t a detective, nor a cop. She had no solid evidence to prove anything.
She shook her head, deciding to stop overthinking. Dwelling on Gu Tingyuan only polluted her mind, she needed an infusion of her favorite big-sister energy to clear her head.
Her gaze drifted toward Shen Yunshu’s room.
Ye Xiao sighed, then looked at Ye Youran, thinking to herself: When will my sister finally move out? Every day, I can’t even cuddle up with Shen Yunshu in peace.
“What are you spacing out for now, Ye Xiao!”
“Geez, Fishy Sister, don’t you find it odd? If he really had nothing to do with us, would he book out all the city’s billboards like that? It’s not like one day’s ad campaign is enough for game promotion. Fishy Sister, just watch—over the next week, or maybe a whole month, Binhai’s ad spaces are probably all going to feature our Yun-Xiao game.”
Ye Youran didn’t know how to respond to this logic, but she’d already gotten involved, and backing out now would depend on Ye Xiao’s approval. Quitting at this point would only make her look more guilty.
“Hmph! If this game fails, I’m holding you responsible!”
But failure was now unlikely. That day, as soon as Gu Tingyuan arrived at the office, he arranged a gift package of games for every employee as part of their benefits.
This package included several popular titles on the market, plus the newly launched My World.
The nearly 10,000 employees at Gu Corporation, combined with the countless Binhai residents curious about the overwhelming ad presence, led to My World selling more than 20,000 copies just in the morning alone.
Ye Xiao stared at her computer screen, laughing to herself.
20,000 copies means 1.76 million in revenue! This was a huge win.
With My World rocketing to the top of the daily new games list, other game developers were left scratching their heads.
Who was behind this game? No one had even heard of Yun-Xiao Network.
Naturally curious, a few veteran players purchased the game.
Bought in the afternoon, they didn’t emerge from the game until the next morning, feeling as though they’d returned from another world.
Though it was made up of simple pixel blocks, the game was truly addictive. Time just seemed to slip away.
Those who’d given the game a real try rated it highly—everyone, that is, except those who’d immediately refunded it after seeing only pixelated blocks.
Minecraft in Ye Xiao’s past life had garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews, except for those who hadn’t been able to buy it, couldn’t get the game to run, or couldn’t even get in the door. Minecraft was nothing short of a classic.
IGN rated it 9.0, and Xiaohei Box gave it a near-perfect 9.9. Since its release in 2009, Minecraft has sold nearly 200 million copies.
Minecraft was just that awesome!
Night Day
Is this Gu guy just stupid, or maybe someone in the background scheming all of this… Maybe someone hate Su Ruoxue family and used this Gu guy to make her family fall.
