Chapter 46: A Unique Snowflake, Just Like The Unique You
It was rare for snow to fall in Binhai City. But tonight, as darkness blanketed the sky, snowflakes floated down, like feathers gently scattered by angels.
The entire world was cloaked in pure white, a winter wonderland draped in silver. Moonlight streamed through the clouds, casting a soft, silvery glow over the snowy ground.
Under the moon’s gaze, each snowflake sparkled like a diamond, casting a mesmerizing shimmer. The snow-covered landscape, bathed in this gentle light, looked like a beautiful painting.
Unbeknownst to anyone, within a residence in Fontainebleau, a scene of vibrant warmth was unfolding on this rare snowy night.
That night, Lu Shiqing rose wearily from her bed, looking at Ye Xiao, who was fast asleep beside her. A blush spread across her cheeks, and the still surface of her heart rippled gently.
Moving carefully, she rose from the bed, mindful not to disturb Ye Xiao’s sleep. She had to admit, Ye Xiao looked far more endearing and well-behaved while asleep.
“If only she weren’t so annoying when she’s awake…” Lu Shiqing murmured, resting her head in her hand as she gazed at Ye Xiao.
After a long pause, Lu Shiqing slipped on a gossamer-thin robe and wandered into the living room. The events of the evening had happened so suddenly, catching her completely off guard.
Now she found herself standing by the wine cabinet, uncorking a bottle of red wine. The crimson liquid, like blood, flowed smoothly from the bottle into her wine glass.
As she swirled the wine, her gaze was drawn to the snowflakes drifting outside the window.
Growing up in Binhai, Lu Shiqing hadn’t seen snow many times, yet tonight’s snowfall was unusually heavy. Feeling excited, she walked to the window and opened it. A gust of cold wind carrying snowflakes swept into the room.
It was chilly, but Lu Shiqing didn’t feel inclined to close the window. She held out her hand, catching a snowflake in her palm, and felt its coolness as it slowly melted.
Her mind drifted back to a night from her childhood—a snowy night, the first time she’d ever seen snow. Like any child, young Shiqing had been thrilled by the sight of snow and couldn’t wait to go out and play.
Her mother hadn’t stopped her, watching her warmly as she bundled her up in a thick winter coat.
At the time, her father was often busy with work, and her mother, pregnant and unwell, seemed to be suffering from some serious illness.
But children are heedless, driven by a natural urge to play. Their family lived in a large courtyard, filled with uncles, aunts, grandparents, and many cousins close to Shiqing’s age.
Her brothers always wore serious faces, though a few of her sisters often smiled at her. Her grandparents, however, were not as kind as those in fairytales, they always appeared stern.
That night was the happiest she’d ever been, a night etched deeply in her memory. When she finally returned indoors, her mother reached out her hand, smiling gently at little Shiqing.
“Shiqing, did you know that every snowflake is unique, just like you are to me?”
Then, her mother lovingly patted her head. To little Shiqing, her mother’s hand felt warm and safe.
“But, Mom? Why is that?”
Little Shiqing held out her hand, catching a snowflake. But before she could examine it, the snowflake had already melted, leaving only a cold feeling in her palm.
The same cold feeling… just like the memory of her mother, frozen in that snowy night—both warm and tinged with sadness.
———
“Sister Lu, why did you run off here all alone without saying anything?”
A sweet, lively voice chimed in as a thick, oversized coat was draped over Lu Shiqing’s shoulders.
Ye Xiao had woken up not long after Lu Shiqing left, and, noticing her absence, had immediately gone to find her. Spotting Lu Shiqing standing by the window, quietly watching the snow, Ye Xiao’s mischievous mind was initially filled with thoughts of teasing her.
But as she approached, she noticed the lonely, melancholic silhouette of Lu Shiqing’s figure.
Startled from her thoughts, Lu Shiqing instinctively raised her wine glass, taking a small sip.
She wasn’t sure how long she’d been by the window, and as the red wine touched her lips, a chill crept through her body. Shivering, she pulled the coat around herself, trying to ward off the cold.
“Sister Lu, you really are a hopeless dummy ❤️~”
Ye Xiao’s voice carried a mix of concern and teasing.
“Standing by the window dressed so thinly! You’ll catch a cold like this, and if someone who’s already not very bright gets sick, you’ll be a complete airhead dummy ❤️~.”
Though Ye Xiao’s words were as sharp as ever, warmth spread through Lu Shiqing’s heart, like the moonlight falling softly into her soul.
Noticing a faint smile on Lu Shiqing’s previously somber face, Ye Xiao quickly scooted closer to her. Standing by the window, Ye Xiao felt the cold herself.
“Brr…”
Ye Xiao shivered, casting a glance at Lu Shiqing before burrowing into her arms.
Lu Shiqing’s body wasn’t particularly warm at that moment, but sharing warmth was still better than standing alone against the cold.
As Ye Xiao snuggled closer, Lu Shiqing’s face turned a little red.
Ye Xiao’s pleasant scent filled her senses, and instead of any distracting thoughts, Lu Shiqing felt a serene calm wash over her.
In her past life, Ye Xiao, living in a coastal city, had seen snow far more often than Lu Shiqing. Nestled against Lu Shiqing,
Ye Xiao’s body gradually warmed, and she reached out to catch a drifting snowflake in her hand.
“Sister Lu, did you know? Every snowflake that falls from the sky is unique, just like you are. To Xiao Xiao, you’re also my one and only big sister.”
Night Day
The Mesugaki actually did it!

One and only big sister, aye? Are the two others also big sisters or do they feel some other quasi familial role?
