Chapter 28: What Happened?
After watching a single video, Ye Xiao felt like she could already make a game. But with the specs of her laptop, even if Ye Xiao was a jack-of-all-trades, creating “Phantom Beast Palu” would still be a bit of a stretch.
Without hesitation, Ye Xiao went to her bedroom and turned on her desktop. As for whether she’d wake up her soundly sleeping “common-fish” big sister lying in her bed, Ye Xiao didn’t care in the slightest!
“Phantom Beast Palu” was not a small game. Right now, she was lacking both staff and funds, so at most, she could only get some help from Ye Youran and Shen Yunchu.
Ye Xiao first opened the game editor and seriously studied its tutorial. However, it was completely different from what the video said. An hour later, Ye Xiao was drowsy.
“Didn’t they say that you could learn it without a programming background? Ugh!”
Ye Xiao felt helpless. Although the learning curve of this editor was already significantly lower compared to programming languages or some traditional game editors, it was still difficult for someone like Ye Xiao, who had no coding background!
But she did manage to learn some simpler tasks, like applying ready-made game templates and swapping out art resources.
In fact, Ye Xiao could directly exchange for a full version of “Phantom Beast Palu” from the System Sister and release it right away, but the cost for “Phantom Beast Palu” alone was 1,000 Strategy Points.
Not to mention the fact that Ye Xiao didn’t even have that many points.
Plus, Ye Xiao envisioned her new “Phantom Beast Palu” as having much more content than the original. Instead of exchanging it all at once, it was better to redeem some practical skills to strengthen herself.
She still had one unused blue-level basic skill proficiency, and, trusting the System Sister, Ye Xiao felt she should think carefully about her first choice. Since there hadn’t been a situation where she’d needed a skill she didn’t already possess, she decided to hold off on using the optional skill for now.
After all, both the skills and the Strategy Points granted by the system were still incredibly valuable.
“Guess I’ll browse through the resource site first.”
Ye Xiao entered the resource site to look through some of the available resources. The variety was pretty good, with templates for different types of games like driving simulators, fighting games, shooters, RPGs, and more. These templates were basic—some were free, and some were paid.
For example, a shooter game template would allow for basic functions like walking, shooting, and reloading. It even came with default ballistics for some firearms. Adding some art resources to this could result in a very simple, single-feature shooting game.
To make it more complex, she’d have to learn some advanced editor techniques. For especially challenging functions, she’d need to find specialists on the resource site.
“Phantom Beast Palu” would need a shooter template, so Ye Xiao saved this basic template right away.
But for now, it was just her, and she couldn’t code. The only skill remotely helpful for game development was that her former self had enjoyed drawing as a hobby.
The art requirements for “Phantom Beast Palu” weren’t especially high, and since the former self’s drawing skills were decent, she quickly sketched out rough drafts in just a few minutes each.
In her previous life, the “Phantom Beast Palu”, she played had over a 100 types of Palu, while the known Pokémon in the Pokémon world numbered over 1,000.
Even if a simple Palu took three minutes to draw and a complex one took five to ten minutes, drawing them all would require at least a week or two of all-nighters.
After two more hours, Ye Xiao managed to sketch and color the starter Palu and Pokémon teams, starting with Cotton Yo-Yo, Mischief Cat, and Brother Kun. Finishing with Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle. She also added Pikachu, Rapid Weasel, and Sky Feather Dragon.
With the three starter Palu, all nine generations of Pokémon starters, the most popular Pikachu and Rapid Weasel, and Ye Xiao’s personal favorite Palu, Sky Feather Dragon, she now had designs for a total of thirty-three Palu and Pokémon on her computer.
One of the essences of “Phantom Beast Palu” came from the basic Palu expressions. Take Mischief Cat, for example—though it always wore a mighty expression, it was actually timid and cowardly. This is a similar feature of the Mischief Cat and Mesugaki.
Since Palu designs weren’t suited to complex dialogue, subtle expressions were key. So Ye Xiao specifically created a set of expressions for Mischief Cat as a reference for whoever she’d eventually hire to model characters for Ye Xiao.
Given the more than 1,ooo Pokémon and more than 100 Palu, there was no way Ye Xiao could handle all the art herself.
Although she didn’t need to design them from scratch—they already existed in her mind—even so, after two hours of intense drawing, her fingers were sore.
Fortunately, she had unlocked the System Sister’s free “Finger Relaxation” function. With a single sprinkle, the soreness in her fingers was instantly replaced by a cool, relaxed feeling.
After all this, Ye Xiao stretched widely. This first time into work since her transmigration had given her a deep appreciation for the hardships of game developers.
After three hours of high-intensity work, Ye Xiao felt a slight pang in her stomach. Making games is a big project and she couldn’t rush it. Solving her physiological needs was the first priority.
Ye Xiao dangled her little feet in the air, trying to locate the bunny slippers she’d kicked off who-knows-where under the desk. But the urge to pee prevailed, so she ended up walking barefoot on the cold floor.
It was already around 6:00 p.m., and in winter, it got dark early. Apart from the glow from the computer screen, the room was pitch-black. Ye Xiao felt an inexplicable twinge of fear. Though she always acted superior in front of others, deep down, she wasn’t all that brave.
Forcing herself to adapt to the darkness, she inched toward the door, guided by the dim light from the screen and with her legs squeezed together carefully.
“Xiao Xiao!”
Completely immersed in her drawing, Ye Xiao hadn’t noticed when her “common-fish” sister had woken up and quietly stood right behind her.
After barely moving a couple of steps, Ye Xiao felt an electric shock coursing through her body, and her legs immediately gave out. Then, a sudden warmth spread through her lower half as she collapsed to the floor.
“Ahhh—!”
An involuntary scream escaped her lips as Ye Xiao looked up at a 45° angle, her gaze dazedly fixed on the silent, shadowy figure that had appeared out of nowhere.
What…What happened?
Night Day
Did she peed herself?
