Chapter 166: The Method To Turn Things Around And Clean One’s Name

The man who had just been called Chairman Xu had been busy cuddling with Ouyang Qing earlier, but now he finally took a good look at Ye Xiao’s face.

He had originally thought Ye Xiao was just some random wild girl from who knows where, but the moment he saw her face clearly, he couldn’t help but feel a jolt of surprise in his heart.

Chairman Xu was, in fact, the head of the Gu Corporation’s charitable foundation.

He had seen Ye Xiao at the charity banquet the night before—arriving together with Madam Gu, Su Ruoxue—and their relationship appeared extremely close.

“You’re Ye Xiao?” Chairman Xu asked, a bit surprised.

“Oh? You know me?” Ye Xiao looked curiously at the middle-aged man in front of her whom she had never seen before.

“Chairman Xu? You’re just going to stand there and watch them bully me?” Ouyang Qing clung to Chairman Xu’s arm and exaggeratedly whined.

“You’re the chairman of the Gu Corporation’s charity foundation! These two—a homewrecker and some nobody wild brat—how dare they go against the Gu Corporation? You have to stand up for me!”

Unexpectedly, Chairman Xu suddenly flung her arm off with a forceful jerk and, without warning, slapped her hard across the face. Ouyang Qing fell to the floor with a thud.

“You filthy woman, how dare you speak to Miss Ye Xiao like that?!”

After all, the depth of Ye Xiao and Su Ruoxue’s relationship was widely known. It wasn’t just the usual close friends level—more like family.

Even a random game company Ye Xiao had casually founded had it’s game promoted all over the city on ad slots bought up by President Gu. The ads ran on a loop for an entire week.

Even now, the biggest billboard in the center of Binhai still displays an ad for “My World”.

It was common knowledge that real estate in Binhai’s business district was ridiculously expensive, and that one billboard alone cost fifty thousand yuan a day. While such money meant nothing to someone like President Gu, just having money wasn’t enough to get your ad placed there.

This alone was enough to show how much President Gu valued Ye Xiao.

“You actually hit me over that little tramp?” Ouyang Qing clutched her cheek, staring in disbelief at the man before her.

Just last night, he had whispered sweet nothings to her, saying he would recommend her to President Gu and help her secure some good resources in the entertainment industry.

“Shut up! Do you even realize who you’ve offended? This is Miss Ye Xiao—the rising star of Binhai, young and capable, personally favored by President Gu! Who do you think you are to speak to her that way?!”

Chairman Xu barked sharply. Then he turned to Ye Xiao and quickly put on a fawning expression: “Miss Ye, there’s nothing going on between me and that woman. Please don’t misunderstand.”

“Well, I figured as much. You’re just a small-fry chairman under a bigger small-fry boss. A woman like that isn’t someone even a charity foundation chairman should be letting near,” Ye Xiao replied, giving him some face—since he’d read the room so quickly.

Jiang Shuyan blinked in surprise. She had expected to throw down with Ouyang Qing today, maybe even tear each other’s hair out, but it all ended this easily?

As expected, Ye Xiao hadn’t been lying. Her relationship with the Gu family was no joke. Even this chairman of a charity foundation—a role totally unrelated to the business side of the Gu Corporation—knew who Ye Xiao was.

Ouyang Qing still covered her face, now staring at Jiang Shuyan with resentment.

She couldn’t afford to offend Ye Xiao, so she redirected all her hatred toward Jiang Shuyan. She even swore to herself that she’d make Jiang Shuyan pay for today’s humiliation.

At that moment, the elevator doors opened. Ye Xiao glanced briefly at Ouyang Qing, didn’t say another word, and simply took Jiang Shuyan’s hand, leading her out of the elevator.

Once seated in Jiang Shuyan’s little car, Ye Xiao suddenly asked, “Sister small fry, do you happen to have that woman’s contact info?”

Jiang Shuyan’s expression immediately became odd. Thinking of Ye Xiao’s orientation, her whole body tensed.

Ye Xiao liked girls, while Ouyang Qing wasn’t as beautiful as she was, being selected as the replacement female lead after Jiang Shuyan’s scandal clearly meant she had some looks.

After all, if you weren’t at least a little attractive, not even the casting couch would have a spot for you.

Seeing Jiang Shuyan’s odd expression, Ye Xiao seemed to guess what she was thinking. “You really are a small fry, Sister small fry. As if I’d be into someone like her. You’re seriously underestimating my taste.”

Jiang Shuyan blushed, embarrassed to have been read so easily.

“You told me before, didn’t you? After you lost the female lead role, that woman took over. That means she must have dirt on Director Bao. If we can persuade her to help bring him down, it’ll be twice the effort for half the result.”

Jiang Shuyan’s eyes widened with sudden understanding.

She hadn’t connected the dots before. That’s right—if Ouyang Qing had slept her way to the top via Director Bao, she definitely had more dirt than Jiang Shuyan herself did. They could even find other actresses who had also been coerced and form an alliance to reveal everything.

How many clean people were left in this industry anyway? If they exposed the truth and controlled the narrative, then Director Bao—who’d run wild in the entertainment industry for years—would finally meet his downfall.

“But… exposing a casting couch scandal is basically self-sabotage. Why would any of those women agree to it?”

“There’s a saying—money makes the devil dance. If they refuse, it just means the price isn’t high enough. We’re not targeting the A-list celebs here, but rather third-rate actresses like Ouyang Qing. Women like her got used and didn’t even make it big. Some of them have already fallen into obscurity.”

“When dreams are shattered and money’s tight, they’re not going to turn down a sudden windfall.”

Jiang Shuyan blinked again. She was starting to seriously admire Ye Xiao. When Ye Xiao said she’d help her, it wasn’t just empty words—she really had a plan.

Jiang Shuyan used to dream of some epic, movie-like love that would last forever.

But after the casting couch incident, her faith in men had withered. She had developed a subtle form of avoidance towards them.

That feeling had long simmered under the surface, suppressed by the pressure she was under.

But now that Ye Xiao was around, it had all come bursting out. She wasn’t the type to lash out at a man she’d only just met, but her demeanor toward them had definitely grown colder.

She was starting to genuinely like this quirky little trickster sitting beside her.

If only she had met Ye Xiao sooner, maybe things wouldn’t have gotten so bad.

But soon she shook off this unrealistic thought.

Back when she debuted, how old had Ye Xiao even been?
