Chapter 146: The Lu Family’s Birthday Banquet
Winter mornings arrived much later than summer ones.
The first rays of sunlight crept through the gaps in the curtains, casting a gentle glow into the room.
Inside, two girls lay entwined in sleep.
A soft murmur escaped the smaller of the two as she slowly stirred awake.
Looking down at the still-sleeping Li Mengyue in her arms, Ye Xiao shook her head helplessly.
Who would’ve thought that out of all her big sisters, Li Mengyue would be the most… enthusiastic?
Last night, after dinner—aside from a late-night snack to replenish their energy—the two had spent practically the entire time “massaging” each other, loosening stiff muscles, and stretching thoroughly.
The workout had been intense. Even though the cramps in her fingers had been healed by System-chan’s abilities, a faint soreness still lingered.
While System-chan could erase physical fatigue, mental exhaustion was another matter.
Recalling Li Mengyue’s relentless energy last night, Ye Xiao shuddered. If every big sister was like this, she might not survive.
Her gaze drifted to the scattered strawberry marks—her handiwork from the night before.
Well, it was winter. Wearing high-necked clothes wouldn’t look out of place. No one would notice… right?
Gently untangling herself, Ye Xiao sat up and stretched her petite frame.
“Another hopeful, energetic day ahead!”
She decided not to wake Li Mengyue—after all, Trashy Yue-jie had worked hard last night and needed her rest.
After ordering breakfast via room service, Ye Xiao slipped into the bathroom.
The sound of running water soon filled the room.
On the bed, Li Mengyue furrowed her brows, groggily blinking awake.
Her mind was still foggy. She only remembered bits from after their late-night snack and before that—everything else was a blur.
Her brain felt empty, as if she’d been floating through the clouds, wandering a dreamland.
The sound of the shower brought it all rushing back.
Just how wild had she been last night?
It was like she’d poured all her pent-up longing and desire from the past half-month into a single night.
Her fingers unconsciously traced the strawberry marks on her skin.
“*Xiao Xiao… you really didn’t hold back, huh? No mercy at all.”
Then again, Ye Xiao was a girl too—and Li Mengyue hadn’t shown her any mercy either.
Just then, a knock sounded at the door.
Confused but alert, Li Mengyue quickly threw on a robe and shuffled to the door in slippers.
She undid the safety latch and cracked it open.
“Good morning, room service. Your breakfast order is here.”
After confirming it was a hotel staff member, she fully opened the door.
The sight of the breakfast cart made her pause.
Every single item was something she loved.
A warmth spread through her chest.
Despite being surrounded by so many girls, Ye Xiao had memorized her preferences—without her even saying a word.
Maybe… Ye Xiao really did care about her?
Before long, Ye Xiao emerged from the bathroom, towel-drying her damp hair.
“Mmm~ Something smells amazing!”
Without another word, she bounded over, snatched a custard bun, and stuffed it into her mouth.
“Xiao Xiao… I didn’t expect you to remember what I like. You actually pay that much attention to me?”
Li Mengyue’s gaze softened, her eyes practically sparkling with affection.
She’d always assumed Ye Xiao was just a flirt—playing around without any real commitment.
But now… maybe that wasn’t the case?
Once, she’d heard a joke: A playboy claimed he wasn’t unfaithful—his heart had just shattered into pieces, and each piece fell for a different girl.
Back then, she’d scoffed. What a scumbag. He should just drop dead.
Yet now… she wondered if such a person could exist—someone who loved every girl with complete sincerity.
And that person… might be Ye Xiao.
“Huh? Trashy big sister?”
Ye Xiao tilted her head, utterly lost. She’d just randomly picked items from the menu.
What a coincidence, huh?
Of course, in Ye Xiao’s eyes, all her trashy big sisters were like wings—losing even one would keep her from soaring freely.
She wanted them all to get along.
So far, things were peaceful.
As for the future? She’d cross that bridge when she got there.
Suddenly, Ye Xiao’s phone rang.
Both girls froze when they saw the caller ID:
Feng Yin (Mengyue’s stepmom).
“It’s this early… What does that old witch want with you?”
Li Mengyue’s brows knitted together, but she didn’t stop Ye Xiao from answering.
After all, Ye Xiao had promised to solve the problem—by handling the person causing it.
Even if she hated the idea of Ye Xiao getting close to Feng Yin… she’d hold back for now.
Ye Xiao tapped accept, and Feng Yin’s voice immediately chirped through:
“Xiao Xiao? You’re with Mengyue, right?”
“Mhm~ What’s up, Sister Yin? Calling so early?”
“Listen, after I got home last night, I mentioned you to Old Li. He didn’t object—in fact, he was impressed. Who knew someone so young could be so… remarkable?”
“Sister Yin, you flatter me. The Li family is far more impressive.”
“Nonsense. You’re still young. Anyway—in two days, it’s Old Man Lu’s 70th birthday. Everyone who’s anyone in Binhai will be there. Normally, a small gaming company like yours wouldn’t make the guest list, but Old Li and I pulled some strings. We got you an invitation. Networking with Binhai’s elite will do wonders for your business. Don’t skip it, okay? Have Mengyue come home later—I’ll give her the invite to pass to you.”
“Old Man Lu…?”
It took Ye Xiao a second to realize—Lu Shiqing’s grandfather.
As one of Binhai’s Big Three, the Lu family’s banquet was exclusive. A fledgling game company CEO like her would be out of place.
But her company was just getting started. Given time, she was confident she’d surpass even the Lu and Gu families—leaving them in the dust.
What really surprised her, though, was this:
She hadn’t heard about the banquet from Lu Shiqing—no, the invitation came from Feng Yin, the beautiful young wife she’d just met.
Sister Yin really treats me like family…
A pang of guilt shot through Ye Xiao.
