Chapter 129: Rushing Between Dates
“Xiao Xiao, you didn’t seem too into this movie. During the screening, you checked your phone at least ten times. I thought you’d like this genre,” Shen Yunchu said, her cheeks slightly flushed and sounding a little apologetic. It seemed like Ye Xiao wasn’t that interested in the film.
“I did like it, really. Maybe I just have too many things on my mind lately,” Ye Xiao replied, scratching her head awkwardly.
If her dear Yunchu hadn’t been avoiding cold drinks these past couple days, her sinful little hand would’ve already ventured into the mysterious, unspeakable Peach Blossom Spring during the movie.
“I understand,” Shen Yunchu said, her eyes full of sympathy. “You’re still so young, yet you’re already running such a big company. Even though you seem carefree and idle on the surface, I’m sure you carry a lot of pressure deep down. While the rest of us are still living worry-free lives, you’ve already been silently shouldering a lot.”
Ever since she started working as Ye Xiao’s executive assistant, Shen Yunchu felt more and more empathy for the kind of stress Ye Xiao had to deal with. She just wanted to ease some of that burden for her.
“Huh?” Ye Xiao’s brain went into overdrive. She had no idea what Yunchu was talking about.
What pressure? That didn’t exist! She spent her days eating, drinking, goofing off, and flirting with girls—life was great.
Sure, sometimes things got out of hand and she’d be forced into unspeakable activities by her “sisters,” but she didn’t exactly mind.
Still, she couldn’t let those thoughts show on her face. Otherwise, she’d feel too guilty in front of her dear Yunchu.
“Didn’t expect it, did you, Miss small fry? You actually get me!” Ye Xiao kept up her “bratty girl” act and put on the expression of someone who’d just found a soulmate.
Even if she didn’t know what kind of burdens she was supposedly carrying, if Shen Yunchu said she had them, then she did!
She must be suffering in ways no one her age should have to endure—without even realizing it!
But internally, Ye Xiao was thinking: *Why hasn’t Sister Yunxi called yet?*
Without that call, she had no excuse to dip out.
She’d packed her schedule a little too tightly today. Next up were dates with Jiang Qingyue and Jiang Mengwei.
There were still two more dates to go. It was already nearly four o’clock, and the next movie was about to start.
“Xiao Xiao, how about we go shopping a bit? We’re at Qianda Mall anyway. We could buy some clothes or makeup,” Shen Yunchu suggested.
“Sure!” Ye Xiao replied.
The two of them entered a Kolan boutique, an internationally famous cosmetics brand and the first high-end foreign beauty label to enter China.
Ye Xiao usually didn’t wear much makeup and didn’t have much interest in it.
But Shen Yunchu, on the other hand, got quite excited.
Just then, Ye Xiao’s phone rang—it was a call from Qin Yunxi.
“Hello? Sister Xixi? What’s going on?”
“Is it really that serious?”
“Okay, I got it.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll be right there!”
Ye Xiao spoke into the phone for about two or three minutes.
Qin Yunxi, lying in bed, had just called as Ye Xiao instructed. But hearing Ye Xiao ramble off such disjointed nonsense left her totally confused.
What the heck was that about?
Why does talking to Xiao Xiao today feel like everything’s out of sync?
After hanging up, Ye Xiao turned to Shen Yunchu with an apologetic face.
“Yunchu-jie, I’m really sorry, something urgent came up—I have to leave right away!”
“It’s okay. If it’s an emergency, go ahead,” Shen Yunchu said.
She was a bit disappointed, but she understood. She wasn’t the type to eavesdrop on others’ calls.
Since Ye Xiao seemed in a rush, it must be something important.
Ye Xiao immediately rushed to Binhai University.
On the way, Jiang Qingyue sent her a location pin:
Shuiyun Kangcheng Community, a residential area very close to the Binhai campus.
Because Jiang Qingyue often stayed up late recording videos as a game content creator, she had frequent conflicts with her roommates and had moved off-campus into a rented apartment.
Ye Xiao planned to pick her up first, then head to the cinema.
To avoid drama from overlooked details—like overlapping schedules—she had carefully chosen different theaters for each date and bought tickets with each of her “older sisters” separately.
The theaters were spread out far enough that no one would realize she was watching different movies with different girls on the same day.
For the first time, Ye Xiao felt like managing her time too well might not be such a good thing.
She used to proudly embrace her role as a Sea King (Playgirl) and never hid her relationships. She had a clear conscience.
But today, she felt like some shady cheater—running from one theater to another, nonstop.
She wasn’t cut out for this—her conscience was too soft. She felt bad for not being able to turn any of the “older sisters” down.
*Can’t we watch movies some other day? Why does it all have to be today?*
Around 4 PM, Ye Xiao arrived at Shuiyun Kangcheng.
She sent Jiang Qingyue a message:
“Miss small fry, I’m here!”
“Okay, I’m coming down. Give me two minutes!”
Jiang Qingyue replied.
Ye Xiao grew even more anxious.
She knew what “two minutes” meant when a girl said it—it could easily be an hour.
And with one more date still lined up after this one, her soul was starting to go numb.
Still have to rush between dates later… and I can’t even drive!
To her surprise, it really only took two or three minutes before Jiang Qingyue came out of the complex.
She had already done her makeup and looked like she took this date very seriously.
She was wearing plain white sneakers, vintage high-waisted straight-leg pants, and a simple T-shirt.
The look had a casual Instagram-girl vibe, but on her, it gave off an effortlessly charming and lazy elegance.
“Damn… I’ve had my eye on this beauty for a while now. She moved in two and a half years ago, and turns out she’s into girls?”
The community’s security guard looked absolutely crushed.
“Don’t say stuff like that! What if it’s just her sister?” Another guard scolded.
Jiang Qingyue followed Ye Xiao and got into a ride-share.
Ye Xiao asked carefully, “So… are we watching “Wolf War 3” or “Erha’s Moving Castle”?”
“Neither. As gamers, I think we should go for something more hardcore. Monster films are great. I was going to pick “Wolf War 3”, but I changed my mind. Already bought the tickets!”
Jiang Qingyue smiled sweetly—like a lotus just starting to bloom, fresh and full of life.
Ye Xiao let out a sigh of relief. Thankfully, it wasn’t one of the movies she’d already seen.
Watching the same film twice in a day felt like wasting her life.
But then she remembered she’d be watching “Wolf War 3” again later that night with Jiang Mengwei and sighed.
“What’s wrong, Xiao Xiao? Don’t like monster movies? We can switch to “Wolf War 3” if you prefer?”
“No no no!” Ye Xiao quickly stopped her. “Steel Girders vs. Diva-Lla 2 sounds great—I love it!”
They arrived at the cinema.
The ticket checker gave Ye Xiao a long, curious look. That bright blonde hair was too recognizable, and her cute, doll-like face was hard to forget.
But a little girl watching different movies with different older sisters in one day didn’t seem too strange. She was just a child, after all.
Then, the ticket checker spotted another familiar face, Ye Chen, with two faint red handprints still on his cheeks.
Now that was quite a sight.
