Chapter 109-110: Shen Yunchu’s Mood
It seemed that everyone was upset because Ye Xiao hadn’t answered her phone, hadn’t taken the initiative to reach out, and had done something like that without giving any explanation, instead just running away and hiding.
Ye Xiao called Shen Yunchu first. She thought that if it were Shen Yunchu, she would probably be the one to understand her.
“Hello? Xiao Xiao, where have you been these past few days? If it weren’t for the fact that you were still working online, I would’ve thought something terrible happened to you!” Shen Yunchu said with a trace of complaint in her voice.
Even though she had a gentle personality, was rather timid, and tended to think things through with an open mind—able to accept even the fact that Ye Xiao had other girlfriends—the one thing she couldn’t stand was Ye Xiao suddenly vanishing like this.
She hadn’t completely disappeared from the face of the earth, but it was close.
After finally falling for someone, that person had disappeared without a word for half a month.
Calls unanswered, messages ignored—she acted like she didn’t care about any of them.
During that time, several of the girls had gathered to discuss what to do about Ye Xiao, but in the end, no clear decision was reached.
After all, Ye Xiao was a girl and couldn’t have children. A relationship built purely on love between women wasn’t recognized in this country.
The best-case scenario was like a piece of news Shen Yunchu had recently seen online: two girls held a wedding, but it was just that—a ceremony. They couldn’t legally register their marriage.
In the video, both sets of parents looked utterly displeased. Few guests had attended. It should’ve been a joyous occasion, but there wasn’t even a hint of happiness in the air.
It had left Shen Yunchu feeling oppressed, but deep down she had already begun preparing herself to accept such a reality. She imagined a future with Ye Xiao—perhaps one day, she too could wear a wedding dress and walk alongside Ye Xiao down the aisle?
Even if it was just a ceremonial wedding, with no legal standing.
But now, Ye Xiao’s behavior was filling her with intense anxiety.
The only small relief was that the other girls were all easy to get along with, and their relationships had gradually deepened over time.
“Ara ara~ Has Onee-san missed me that much just after not seeing me for a few days? Big sis, you really are such a small fry!” Ye Xiao teased, a mocking tone slipping into her voice.
When Shen Yunchu heard this, a wave of grievance washed over her. Ye Xiao was clearly in the wrong, yet acted like nothing had happened—still just as incorrigible.
At this rate, could the future she dreamed of ever really happen?
She began crying, and on the other end of the line, there was only the sound of Shen Yunchu sobbing.
In her life, Ye Xiao had gotten used to two things: one, cocky pretty boys acting tough, and two, girls crying.
Whenever a girl cried, Ye Xiao couldn’t help but panic inside.
And just at that moment, that annoying “System-chan” decided to chime in again.
“Shen Yunchu’s Affection -5.”
“Shen Yunchu’s Affection -5.”
In just two blows, Shen Yunchu’s affection for Ye Xiao had dropped from 90 to 80.
“Tsk tsk, even you can’t handle a crying girl? You’re such a weakling, small fry host!”
“Mind your own business!”
Ye Xiao was already starting to feel frustrated, and System-chan’s sarcasm only made her lose her cool even more.
“Yunchu-jie, don’t cry, okay? I was in the wrong, but I’m back now and reaching out to you first, see?”
Ye Xiao finally softened her tone and didn’t dare say anything else that might upset Shen Yunchu further.
She lowered her stance and began coaxing her gently.
Hearing Ye Xiao drop her usual bratty tone, Shen Yunchu wiped her tears away.
“Shen Yunchu’s Affection +1!”
Why was it that each loss cost her ten points, but she only got back one at a time?
“Just so you know, once a character’s affection reaches 80 or above, every single point increase becomes exponentially harder. It’s incredibly rare in the whole system for someone like Yunchu-chan to start with 90 affection right out the gate.”
“Got it, you annoying system. Now shut up already!”
System-chan had kindly tried to explain, but only got Ye Xiao’s impatience in return.
With a roll of her eyes, System-chan gave up on her for now.
Shen Yunchu’s affection drop was something Ye Xiao had brought upon herself.
“Yunchu-jie, where are you now? I’ve really missed you these past days!” Ye Xiao said in a coquettish tone.
“Then why’d you disappear for so long? Today’s not even a day off—I’m at work, of course…” Shen Yunchu replied, still a little resentful, but clearly much calmer than before.
Her voice was still slightly choked up, sniffles audible, but she had stopped crying.
Ye Xiao let out a quiet sigh of relief.
As long as she wasn’t crying anymore. Ye Xiao was seriously afraid Shen Yunchu might turn into another crybaby like Qin Yunxi.
That would be hard to handle.
“I’ll head to the company right now, see you there!”
———
After hanging up, Shen Yunchu sat on the toilet in the office restroom, staring at the new group chat the five girls had created on WeChat after adding each other on Christmas Day.
It was filled with girly topics.
At first, the five of them were only in the group because of Ye Xiao, but now it had clearly turned into a little chat space among close sisters.
Looking at the message history, Shen Yunchu typed a line: “Xiao Xiao contacted me.”
But just before hitting send, she hesitated.
She and the others had agreed: the moment Ye Xiao resurfaced, they would immediately notify each other and band together to give her a proper reckoning.
It had been so long since she’d gotten to spend time alone with Ye Xiao. Who knew how much of her time she’d even get moving forward?
If she sent the message now, the other girls would definitely show up and surround Ye Xiao instantly.
Then she’d lose all chance at one-on-one time with her.
At that thought, Shen Yunchu’s expression turned pitiful.
She had only accidentally fallen for someone she shouldn’t have—was that really a crime?
Before that “incident,” she had always just considered Ye Xiao her best friend.
But if this relationship were to end, how was she supposed to face Ye Xiao again?
She couldn’t accept that outcome.
All she wanted now was a little more time with Ye Xiao.
If the newly hired university graduates at the company saw her weeping like this, they’d have no idea what to think.
Composing herself, she adjusted her clothes and went to the mirror to touch up her makeup.
Her light makeup had been ruined a little from crying.
She basically ran the company herself. Ye Xiao was pretty much just a hands-off boss.
In front of others, Shen Yunchu had to present herself as a capable and strong woman—Ye Xiao’s executive assistant.
But that wasn’t her true personality at all.
There weren’t many people in the company, but back in college, the idea of managing even a small team like this would’ve been unthinkable for her.
In just a short time, Shen Yunchu had given so, so much—for Ye Xiao, and for her career.
