Chapter 4: Li Xiaoke
After doing the laundry, Lin Feng planned to go out and make some money.
Just then, a pink Wuling Mini drove up on the dilapidated gravel road in front of the house. Out stepped a girl with light makeup, dressed extravagantly.
The girl looked about 18 or 19, wearing a white dress with black stockings, her youthful figure showing a 36D chest. She had a fresh and vibrant appearance, like a delicate porcelain doll.
Her name was Li Xiaoke, and she was Lin Yunyao’s high school classmate.
Li Xiaoke glanced curiously at Lin Feng, who was standing at the door, then shouted loudly toward the house:
“Xiao Yao, Xiao Yao, are you home?”
Hearing the familiar voice, Lin Yunyao quickly wiped her tears and ran out, asking:
“Xiaoke, why are you here?”
“Xiao Yao, were you just crying?”
Seeing Lin Yunyao’s red eyes, Li Xiaoke immediately sensed something was wrong.
Then, as if something occurred to her, she looked warily at Lin Feng, who was standing not far away.
“This guy doesn’t look like a good person. Did he bully you?”
“No, I just accidentally fell.”
Lin Yunyao shook her head, then pulled Li Xiaoke into the house.
Lin Feng wanted to follow them, but after taking just two steps, the door shut with a loud bang.
“She’s probably Xiao Yao’s friend… Having her friends around should stabilize her emotions a bit.”
Lin Feng mumbled to himself as he stood outside.
Whether or not he went inside didn’t matter. With his sharp hearing, he could hear every word being spoken inside.
The only thing that made him uncomfortable was how Li Xiaoke was dressed so glamorously like a little princess, while his own sister looked like a Cinderella.
“Even though, based on what my sister said, this place is likely to be demolished soon, it’s clearly unrealistic to rely on compensation from that. I still have to make money as soon as possible!”
After thinking for a moment, Lin Feng crouched in a corner and started eavesdropping on the conversation inside.
…
The small room only had a broken bed and a desk piled with books.
The two girls sat on the bed, whispering secrets, completely unaware that Lin Feng, crouched in the corner, was hearing everything.
If they knew, with Li Xiaoke’s feisty personality, she would definitely curse him out.
“Xiao Yao, who’s that creepy guy? He’s all scruffy and has long hair.”
“I don’t know. Maybe he’s a scavenger passing by to take a dump.”
“Ah, no wonder he looks so weird. A grown man living like that, how embarrassing!”
Lin Feng, crouching in the corner: ???
Lin Yunyao didn’t want Li Xiaoke to keep insulting her brother, so she quickly asked:
“Xiaoke, why did you come to see me today?”
“Well! It’s been a month since school started! The counselor asked me when you’re going to report in. If you don’t go soon, the school will consider it a voluntary withdrawal.”
Li Xiaoke said quickly.
Lin Yunyao bit her lip when she heard this and didn’t respond.
“Is it because of tuition fees?”
Li Xiaoke glanced around the room and then said:
“You can apply for a student loan! No matter what, getting into Jinling University wasn’t easy. Are you really going to give up just like that?”
“I don’t want to give up either, but I can’t get approved for the loan.”
Lin Yunyao gave a bitter smile.
“Why not?”
“Because my poverty certificate didn’t pass the review!”
“What the hell! How could they say you’re not poor? Why didn’t they approve it? That’s just outrageous!”
Li Xiaoke said angrily.
Lin Yunyao wore a bitter expression and didn’t reply.
She knew that even if she explained this to Li Xiaoke, it wouldn’t help. Li Xiaoke came from an ordinary family too, and if they messed with certain people, they’d be in serious trouble.
She didn’t want what happened to her last night to happen to Li Xiaoke too.
As for calling the police?
Last night, after she called the police, two thugs came to kidnap her. She didn’t believe that was a coincidence.
“Is it because of the demolition? Are they trying to force you to sell your land cheaply?”
Li Xiaoke, sensing something, asked in a low voice.
Lin Yunyao silently nodded.
Seeing this, Li Xiaoke gritted her teeth in anger.
“Those bastards! They only pick on you because you’re a girl. If you had any men in your family, I bet they wouldn’t dare bully you!”
For some reason, Lin Yunyao felt bitter when she heard this.
Actually, the situation had already become quite serious, and even having a man in the family wouldn’t necessarily solve it!
“Forget it! I don’t plan to go to university anymore. It doesn’t matter anyway. I’m just one person. If I can eat, I’m fine. I’ll just live day by day.”
“No way! If it comes to it, I’ll ask the counselor to organize a donation from our classmates.”
“Xiaoke! I can’t rely on others forever! Besides, going to university isn’t necessarily a good thing. I’m thinking of getting a job and seeing the world.”
Lin Yunyao forced a smile.
But at that moment—
“Bang!”
The door was suddenly forced open from the outside, and Lin Feng strode in.
This scene stunned the two girls in the room.
“No! Xiao Yao, you have to go to university. Don’t worry about the money. I’ll take care of it!”
Lin Feng’s face was dark with anger.
He couldn’t believe his sister was going to skip university because she couldn’t afford it!
His sister, the sibling of a powerful cultivator, a nearly invincible figure, was struggling to pay for school?
Lin Feng felt like his heart was breaking.
If he hadn’t been eavesdropping, he wouldn’t even have known about this!
And that poverty certificate?
Who was blocking his sister from getting it?
Someone’s bullying my sister?
They’re all going to die!
At that moment, Lin Feng had never felt such a desire to kill, to tear apart anyone who dared bully his sister!
Even the family’s dog would get slapped, and the eggs would be shaken until the yolks broke!
“Are you out of your mind? Breaking into someone’s home is against the law!”
Li Xiaoke stepped in front of Lin Yunyao, glaring warily at the scruffy-looking Lin Feng.
“I’m Xiao Yao’s brother!”
Lin Feng calmly replied.
“Brother?”
Li Xiaoke looked doubtful, then turned to Lin Yunyao for confirmation.
Didn’t you just say he was a scavenger here to take a dump?
“My brother died ten years ago. This guy’s probably just some lunatic.”
Lin Yunyao replied with a blank expression.
“Did you hear that! You lunatic, get out of here! Or I’ll call the police and have you arrested. Don’t think we’re easy to bully just because we’re two girls!”
Naturally, Li Xiaoke chose to believe her best friend and immediately shouted loudly.
Lin Feng exhaled deeply and said slowly:
“Xiao Yao, whether or not you acknowledge me, you have to go to university.”
“And, Xiaoke… I’m going out to earn money for the tuition now. I should be back before dark. In the meantime, help me watch Xiao Yao. I’m afraid she might do something stupid.”
With that, Lin Feng turned and left, disappearing from their sight in no time.
This scene left Li Xiaoke dumbfounded, her face full of confusion.
Jinling University’s tuition is more than five thousand a year. You, a man wearing clothes so worn they’re almost white, think you can make five thousand in a few hours?
“Looks like he really is a lunatic! I heard lunatics aren’t held responsible for murder, thank goodness he left on his own.”
Li Xiaoke patted her large chest, feeling a bit relieved.
Lin Yunyao, however, was silent, her face complicated.
She had thought he came back to fight over the demolition compensation, but seeing him now, he didn’t really seem like it.
Could it be that he really had unavoidable reasons back then?
If he really brought back five thousand yuan for her tuition, should she take it?
As she thought this, Lin Yunyao’s eyes gradually lost focus, and she fell into memories of her childhood.
…
