Chapter 157: Is Your Lin Family That Strong?
Lin Shuhan watched Lin Feng put away the Du Ling Flower, and his expression turned extremely grim. He said coldly:
“Lin Feng, give me back that flower right now. It’s mine!”
“Anything bestowed by heaven and earth belongs to whoever has the ability to claim it. If it’s in my hands, it’s mine,” Lin Feng replied.
That was the teaching the old man had repeated to him the most. Back then, he had not fully understood, but now it all seemed clearer.
“Don’t try to feed me that nonsense. If you refuse to return it, don’t blame me for being merciless!” Lin Shuhan said coldly.
In truth, he also endorsed Lin Feng’s view. After all, that Du Ling Flower was something he had stolen from a mountain farmer’s hands by force. When the farmer tried to resist, Lin Shuhan wiped out the entire family. He, the Ghost Nether Patriarch, had always been the one robbing others. Now that someone had stolen his prize, he could not tolerate it.
Just then, Lin Feihai, Niu Ben, Granny Jinhua, and the others rushed over.
Lin Feihai glanced at the two men, who appeared on the verge of fighting, and frowned. “Shuhan, what’s going on?”
“This Lin Shao took my spiritual flower!” Lin Shuhan answered in a stern voice.
At his words, Lin Feihai looked toward the flowerbed and noticed that the previously visible dark blue flower was indeed gone. Then he shifted his gaze to Lin Feng and asked with a smile:
“If you really like flowers, Lin Shao, I can send you as many as you want. However, that blue flower is my grandson’s prized possession. Could you return it?”
Lin Feng thought for a moment—it did seem a bit over the line to snatch it so abruptly—so he said, “It’s not impossible. But you’ll have to tell me where you got it in the first place.”
Lin Feihai heard that and turned to Lin Shuhan with a questioning look.
Naturally, Lin Shuhan would never admit it was stolen through murder, so he replied coldly, “That has nothing to do with you.”
“If you won’t say, then I’m afraid I can’t oblige,” Lin Feng sneered.
Lin Feihai was at a loss and glanced at Niu Ben in the hope he would mediate.
Feeling awkward, Niu Ben spoke hurriedly in a low voice, “Lin Shao, you—”
“I already gave them a chance,” Lin Feng cut him off.
Niu Ben frowned. “Lin Shao, now you’re just being unreasonable. Hurry up and return it, or there’s no way we can keep working together.”
“If you don’t want to cooperate, then let’s just not cooperate.” Lin Feng shrugged, looking unconcerned, and turned to leave.
Niu Ben watched Lin Feng’s departing figure with a troubled expression. But mindful of Lin Feng’s immeasurable strength, he had no choice but to restrain himself. He turned to Lin Feihai and said with a wry smile:
“Brother Lin, I never imagined this would happen. My apologies!”
Lin Feihai narrowed his eyes slightly. Could Lin Feng really be that formidable? Even so, Niu Ben was unwilling to offend him.
Right then, Lin Shuhan suddenly spoke in a cold voice:
“Lin Feng, if you’re a real man, fight me one-on-one! If you lose, hand over that flower. How about it?”
“You want to fight me?” Lin Feng stopped in his tracks, looking at Lin Shuhan as though he found it odd.
For some reason, Lin Shuhan felt a stir of tension under Lin Feng’s gaze, but he quickly steadied himself. In his previous life, he had been a Nascent Soul–stage patriarch, so he was confident he could defeat Lin Feng. As soon as Lin Feng accepted the challenge, he could openly retrieve the Du Ling Flower. And if the moment was right, he would consider killing Lin Feng as well—stealing his opportunity had incited murderous intent.
“What’s the matter? You were so brazen snatching the flower, and now you’re afraid of a duel?” Lin Shuhan goaded him deliberately.
“No need for all that.” Lin Feng swung his palm at Lin Shuhan.
Before Lin Shuhan could react, he was sent flying dozens of meters away, crashing heavily to the ground and coughing up a mouthful of blood before falling unconscious.
At that scene, everyone present from the Lin family gasped. The young master was a seventh-level Houtian realm martial artist, yet Lin Feng had slapped him aside so easily.
Even Lin Feihai could not hide his surprise, though he quickly recovered and said coldly:
“Lin Feng, what’s the meaning of this? You left my grandson in this condition?”
“Considering that I let him live, I’ve already been quite merciful,” Lin Feng responded, glancing at Lin Feihai before turning to leave.
“You…” Lin Feihai shook with anger, wanting to strike out, but Niu Ben held him back firmly. Having witnessed Lin Feng’s power, Niu Ben knew Lin Feihai would stand no chance. Aggravating Lin Feng would only end in disaster.
They waited until Lin Feng was out of the manor’s grounds and no longer in sight before Niu Ben finally released his hold. He said to Lin Feihai apologetically:
“Brother Lin, I’m truly sorry for bringing him here. This man is an entirely unpredictable factor.”
“What in the world is Lin Feng’s background? Even someone of your standing in the Hundred Clouds Chamber of Commerce fears him this much?” Lin Feihai asked with a grim expression.
“I don’t know his exact background either, but he managed to kill a third-level Xiantian realm master in an instant,” Niu Ben said seriously.
Lin Feihai’s pupils contracted slightly. Even he could not accomplish that.
All the other Lin family members found this astonishing and difficult to believe.
“How is that possible? Lin Feng looks so young, like he’s only in his twenties.” Lin Feihai wore an expression of disbelief.
“That’s exactly why I’m wary. If he were an old man, I wouldn’t mind. But, Brother Lin, you know very well that any force capable of cultivating a young genius like him must be tremendously powerful. It’s not worth provoking him over a single flower,” Niu Ben advised.
Lin Feihai fell silent. If all that Niu Ben said was true, then he really could not afford to make an enemy of Lin Feng. As the patriarch of a major family, he could not let personal grudges cloud his judgment.
“Still, I can’t help wondering—what kind of flower was that, to make Lin Feng snatch it so brazenly?” Granny Jinhua suddenly asked.
At her words, Niu Ben, Yin Ziyue, and Liu Neng all turned curious eyes toward Lin Feihai.
“I’m not sure either. Shuhan just said it was a spiritual herb that could help with his cultivation,” Lin Feihai replied, shaking his head.
A spiritual herb? The four pondered briefly and then set it aside. In any event, Lin Feng had already taken it, so it was no use thinking about it now.
…
After leaving the Lin Family Estate, Lin Feng found a nearby hotel and checked in. From the earlier conversation, he knew that many major powers would gather at Mount Putuo the next day in search of a spiritual vein. It made little difference whether he cooperated with Niu Ben and the others or acted alone.
Naturally, if Niu Ben had not taken Lin Shuhan’s side, Lin Feng would not have broken their agreement. After all, it was Niu Ben who had shared the information about the spiritual vein. But since Niu Ben chose to support the Lin family, Lin Feng did not feel obligated to keep his promise.
With that in mind, Lin Feng placed the Du Ling Flower on the table, pulled out some spiritual stones, and started accelerating the flower’s growth. He currently had over a hundred low-grade spiritual stones plus five Wind Stones, so he did not feel any sting in spending a few of them.
Before long, however, he realized that he had been too optimistic. The Du Ling Flower was like a bottomless pit. Even after absorbing more than fifty spiritual stones, it showed no sign of blooming.
“As expected of the Du Ling Flower… It seems back when the old man made one bloom, he must have invested an incredible amount of effort,” Lin Feng remarked, pained at the cost.
And so, the Du Ling Flower consumed all one hundred-plus spiritual stones and then three Wind Stones. Only then did the tightly sealed petals gradually spread open, revealing a deep blue pistil within.
