Chapter 8: Before They Can Capture Me, I’ll Capture Them All First

“Huh!? Who could it be at this hour?”

Su Li put down her phone and walked over to the door. She peeked through the peephole—and the moment she saw the person standing outside, she was completely stunned. This… this had to be impossible!?

Just a moment ago, she had convinced herself that this world was pretty much identical to the one she came from.

But then why—why had someone who was supposed to appear a year from now suddenly shown up here now?

Outside the door stood a stunningly beautiful girl. Her long hair was casually tied into a ponytail, and her delicate features wore a faint, gentle smile.

Hidden within that smile was a hint of anticipation—almost like she was eagerly waiting for whoever was on the other side of the door.

This person was none other than the one Su Li had just been thinking about: her long-time neighbor, Ling Luo.

According to what Ling Luo had told her in her previous life, she had just graduated around this time, found a job, and only moved to this area after working for over a year.

So what on earth had happened that brought her here so soon!?

Su Li couldn’t help but recall the strange information that had appeared in her head. So many oddities had cropped up today—from Shen Qingxia’s sudden arrival to Ling Luo standing at her door.

These weren’t just coincidences. No way were there that many coincidences in one day. Everything pointed to one terrifying conclusion: the strange information in her head wasn’t some kind of joke.

Every girl she had once successfully “captured”… had all freaking been reborn.

She felt like she should cue a funeral song for herself. Something like “Cool Breeze, Cold Heart.”

“Excuse me, can I help you with something?”

Su Li slowly opened the door. She noticed that in the instant the door cracked open, Ling Luo’s brow twitched slightly—but quickly relaxed again, as if nothing had happened. That brief reaction only made Su Li more certain of what she was suspecting.

“Hello. I’m your new next-door neighbor—I just moved in today. My name’s Ling Luo,” the girl said politely.

“Nice to meet you, I’m Su Li.”

The moment Su Li gave her name, Ling Luo’s eyes flickered with a flash of doubt, almost disbelief. She masked it quickly, but Su Li caught it nonetheless.

Ling Luo gave a small smile. “There’s no real reason I came over. Just thought I’d say hi—since we’re neighbors now.”

“I see… Would you like to come in for a bit?”

“Sure.”

“Eh!?”

Su Li blinked. That had just been a throwaway pleasantry! Who actually accepted that kind of invitation? Why wasn’t Ling Luo following the script!?

But the words were already out there. Su Li had no choice now. She opened the outer security door and let Ling Luo into her humble little apartment.

Once inside, Ling Luo acted like it was her first time setting foot in this kind of room. Her eyes scanned the space with genuine curiosity.

“Your place is really simple, huh~”

“It’s just a rental, that’s all. As long as it’s livable, what more do you need?”

That’s what she said, anyway. But in truth, this so-called “rental” was where she had lived for a full five years in her last life. She could have moved anytime, sure—but she’d gotten used to the place and couldn’t be bothered to change.

Ling Luo nodded thoughtfully at her reply and then continued looking around the apartment, examining every nook and cranny with intense focus. The way she studied the room—it was as if she were trying to burn every little detail into her memory.

She didn’t stay long. Before leaving, she even invited Su Li to her place for a meal sometime.

Hearing that, Su Li suddenly felt dazed. She remembered clearly—back in her previous life, during her first meeting with Ling Luo, she had said the exact same thing.

“If there’s ever a chance, I won’t be polite then~”

“Mhm.”

Ling Luo stepped out of Su Li’s apartment and returned to her own. The smile on her face slowly faded, replaced by a look of confusion and conflict. But soon enough, a faint smile tugged at her lips again.

She murmured softly to herself, “This time… no matter what, I was first.”

“Phew~ Finally done with my shower.”

Su Li emerged from the bathroom wearing a thin pair of pajamas. Maybe it was from the hot water, but a light blush lingered on her cheeks, making her look exceptionally cute.

There was no need to go into the details of the shower. Honestly, with the way she was now, there was zero chance she’d do anything weird to herself—not that she had the energy or interest for that sort of thing anyway. She had just casually… “studied” her body a little.

Don’t get the wrong idea. It was just a casual study. Nothing weird, okay!?

Her conclusion? This new body of hers was seriously easy to push down.

Forget the lack of strength—it was way too sensitive. In short, she was basically a walking, talking high-grade heat-seeking weapon system.

That realization made her want to curl up and die.

With a body like this, who was she kidding trying to go around “capturing” other girls? At this rate, she’d get pushed down herself before she even made a move. How humiliating would that be!?

She gave her head a small shake, pushing those ridiculous thoughts aside. Then she grabbed the hair dryer and started blowing her hair. It was already getting late, and she had to get up early for her first day of work in this world.

She didn’t want any problems on day one.

That was what she told herself—but once she got into bed, she couldn’t sleep at all. Her mind kept spinning, replaying everything that had happened today, as well as fragments from her past life.

After she died, did anyone even feel sad about it?

Su Li doubted it. If anything, they probably clapped and cheered.

She couldn’t help but recall the moment she fell from the building. That stomach-turning, bone-crushing pain—yeah, once was more than enough. Never again.

Hopefully she hadn’t crushed the other person too badly… though they had used her as a landing cushion.

And now, she had a huge problem looming in front of her.

With all these reincarnated girls popping up, what was she supposed to do?

Avoiding them wasn’t an option. Doing so would only make her look guilty—and would probably hasten her death. No, heat-weapon activation, to be precise.

After thinking it through from every angle, Su Li came to a decision: she would stick to her old playbook. If all these girls were coming after her, then fine.

Before they could capture her—she would capture them all first!

Besides, it’s not like she believed she could be “captured” that easily.

…Right?
