Chapter 4: So, What Should I Do?
“Uh, yes, that’s me. May I ask what’s the matter?” Su Li asked cautiously.
Hearing the soft and gentle voice on the other end of the line, it was unmistakably Li Yitong.
“Teacher Su, did you forget? Last time, we agreed that I’d show you around the school to help you get familiar with it.”
Su Li blinked, recalling there indeed seemed to be such an arrangement. However, the person who was supposed to show her around wasn’t Li Yitong. Could it be a change in the timeline? Did Li Yitong replace the original guide due to shifts in this world’s events?
It didn’t seem that simple, but since the other party had brought it up, she might as well go and see what was up. Perhaps she could probe something out of Li Yitong.
To Su Li, Li Yitong gave off a slightly dangerous vibe. She needed to be cautious. Whether or not Li Yitong was also a reborn individual, Su Li couldn’t let her discover her own rebirth. Otherwise, she’d be doomed.
“S-sorry about that! I guess I was so nervous I forgot. I’ll come over right away!”
“It’s okay. I’ll wait for you at the school gate.”
In a school office, a beautiful woman in a white dress ended the call and quietly focused her gaze on the resume in front of her—it was Su Li’s resume.
She murmured to herself, “So, in this world, Su Li is a girl? Hmm… this seems… quite interesting.”
Meanwhile, walking toward the school, Su Li suddenly felt an ominous premonition, as if something was about to happen.
Her intuition was always spot on. Before her rebirth, this sixth sense had helped her avoid numerous chaotic romantic entanglements. Without it, she would’ve long been reduced to a laughingstock of romantic calamities.
The small restaurant wasn’t far from the school, and in about ten minutes, she reached the gate. Above the entrance were the large characters for “Tianhai High School.”
This place was all too familiar to Su Li. After all, she had worked here for five years. It wasn’t a particularly long time, but it wasn’t short either.
She knew every tree, blade of grass, and corner of the campus like the back of her hand.
From a distance, Su Li could make out a vague figure standing in the shade near the gate.
Su Li had mild myopia—not too severe up close, but distant objects were a blur. Though she had glasses, she seldom wore them. Based on intuition, that figure had to be Li Yitong.
Thinking of Li Yitong, Su Li’s first thought wasn’t her beautiful face but her long, slender legs. However, Li Yitong rarely wore shorts or short skirts, usually opting for long dresses, so most people didn’t get to appreciate them.
But those long legs… they were absolutely amazing!
And Li Yitong’s personality was incredibly gentle—or at least, it had been before Su Li broke things off with her.
Shaking off unnecessary memories, Su Li quickened her pace. As she got closer, a knowing expression appeared on her face. She had been right—her intuition never failed.
Standing before her was Li Yitong. Compared to her pre-rebirth self, this Li Yitong seemed more youthful and inexperienced. After all, five years could change a person quite a bit.
While Su Li scrutinized Li Yitong, Li Yitong was also observing Su Li. She had noticed Su Li long before she got close. Although she had seen photos, meeting Su Li in person was far more impactful.
This Su Li looked nothing like the Su Li in her memory. There wasn’t the slightest resemblance. With such a youthful and delicate face, the students might mistake her for a junior high schooler.
How… fascinating.
Su Li blinked, sensing something odd in the way Li Yitong was looking at her. Could it be…
Though she felt uneasy, Su Li maintained her innocent, newbie teacher facade. Whatever the case, she’d stick to her act and hope her instincts were wrong.
Li Yitong smiled gently and said, “Teacher Su, you’re here.”
“Ah, I’m so sorry! I can’t believe I forgot about this. I guess I was just too nervous about officially starting the job,” Su Li said, her face showing just the right mix of apology and fluster.
She figured that as long as she acted like this, anything short of a major mistake would probably be forgiven.
“It’s fine. Let’s go. I’ll show you around the school.”
With that, Li Yitong opened her parasol and moved closer to Su Li.
The parasol was small, and the two of them had to stand close to fit under it.
Looking at Li Yitong holding the parasol, Su Li was reminded of her pre-rebirth days. Back then, she had always been the one holding the umbrella. But now, compared to Li Yitong’s height of over 170 cm… Forget it. Su Li didn’t want to dwell on the height difference anymore.
At her current age, there was no point agonizing over her height—it wasn’t going to change.
“Once we enter, this road leads to the high school teaching building. Over there is the junior high section, that’s the auditorium, and here…”
As Li Yitong explained the campus layout, Su Li put on a serious, attentive expression. She already knew all this, of course, but if she didn’t act the part, it would raise suspicions.
No matter whether Li Yitong had been reborn, Su Li couldn’t afford to let anyone discover her secret.
If she were just the regular Su Li, none of the girls she’d charmed pre-rebirth would care about her. But if her rebirth were exposed, the chance of her becoming a walking target for hostility would increase exponentially.
She had no desire to see that happen.
As Li Yitong introduced the school, she occasionally glanced at Su Li beside her.
This world’s Su Li was truly intriguing. Her petite, almost loli-like appearance stirred a strange impulse in Li Yitong—an urge to do something to her.
Li Yitong’s lips curved into a subtle, amused smile.
What exactly should I do?
For a moment, Su Li felt a sudden sense of danger. She cautiously glanced at Li Yitong beside her, only to see her calmly continuing the campus tour.
So what was that earlier sense of danger? Was it really just her imagination?
…
