Chapter 3: An Ominous Feeling
“Little sister, what would you like to eat?” Li Zi asked, smiling at Su Li.
Hearing Li Zi’s words, Su Li nearly spit out a mouthful of blood. She had seen this before, but if you don’t count her age from before the rebirth, she was already 25 years old! How could she be called “little sister” by her own student? Did she really look that young?
Forget it, she decided not to dwell on the small stuff with her student. Once school started tomorrow, Li Zi would know whether she was a little sister or an older sister!
Wait!? Older sister?
Su Li sighed in resignation. Fine, she’d be an older sister. However, Li Zi’s words reminded her that her current appearance was completely different from before her rebirth. From Li Zi’s reaction, Su Li couldn’t tell whether Li Zi had been reborn or not.
This was a mistake on Su Li’s part.
Su Li casually flipped through the menu and instinctively said, “Li Zi, should I buy some pears to take back later?”
The moment she said that, she realized something was off. Thankfully, she quickly corrected herself, or she would’ve exposed her true identity. At this point, Li Zi didn’t recognize her yet, and if Li Zi was a reborn person, Su Li felt she’d be finished.
At that moment, Su Li didn’t notice that a brief flicker of confusion flashed across Li Zi’s face, quickly disappearing, returning to the same expression as before, as if nothing had happened.
“Um, I’ll have fish-flavored eggplant, stir-fried vegetables, and a fried egg. That’s all. And don’t make it too salty,” Su Li ordered.
“Okay, please wait a moment, little sister. Your food will be ready soon.”
Li Zi quickly noted down the order and turned toward the kitchen. Once inside, she looked at her notebook and muttered to herself, “This little sister’s ordering habits… they seem so familiar.”
“Li Zi, hasn’t that customer finished ordering yet?” Li Zi’s mother called from inside. From the way she didn’t turn her head, it was clear how busy she was.
“Already done, I’ll be right there.”
On the other side, while waiting for her food, Su Li wasn’t idle either. She opened her phone and found that there were no notes or diaries, but her contact list had many unfamiliar names, most of them seeming to belong to girls. She noticed the phone numbers of her college roommates were gone.
This was normal, considering that she was no longer living in the male dormitory with other guys.
There were still some changes, but what worried Su Li the most was the sudden appearance of information in her mind. If what she’d read was true, what kind of world was this, full of reborn people?
And what would become of her in the end? She definitely didn’t want to become a “hot weapon” like those others!
While Su Li was lost in thought, the food arrived. It had that familiar smell, and just inhaling the aroma made Su Li feel a bit excited.
As she ate, Su Li noticed that Li Zi’s gaze kept inadvertently drifting in her direction. This made Su Li feel an ominous sense of foreboding.
Had she done anything to attract attention? Wait, when she ordered, she ordered exactly as she had before. Could it be that Li Zi really was a reborn person?
Thinking this, Su Li’s heartbeat quickened, but outwardly, she remained calm, eating her breakfast and lunch while scrolling through her phone.
Though her face was calm, her mind was in a panic. That was the situation Su Li was in right now.
However, Su Li had good mental resilience. After initially feeling a little nervous, she quickly adapted to the situation. Now, she just needed to pretend she didn’t know Li Zi.
As for her ordering habits, they were no different from the ones she had in her previous life. There was nothing wrong with it, and even if Li Zi was really a reborn person, even if she recognized her as Su Li, it wouldn’t be a problem.
She was Su Li now, not Su Li from her past life.
As long as she didn’t reveal her identity as a reborn person, she should be fine. That was the key point.
It seemed like her life from now on couldn’t be too carefree.
…
“I’m full.”
After finishing her last bite of rice, Su Li sighed in contentment. She had ordered as usual, but ended up with more food than she expected. Her current body’s appetite wasn’t small, but it wasn’t huge either.
If Su Li hadn’t been against wasting food, she would’ve probably stopped eating after two-thirds of the meal.
Now, feeling stuffed, Su Li knew she needed to digest before moving.
As for Li Zi, halfway through the meal, Su Li stopped paying attention to her. Many other customers had entered the restaurant, and Li Zi became busy, leaving Su Li alone.
This gave Su Li some relief.
Maybe she was just overthinking things. It could be that Li Zi was simply paying attention to her because of how cute she looked now. That was a strong possibility.
Okay, that was just a joke. But Su Li did feel like she lacked some authority in her appearance. If she were an office worker, it wouldn’t matter, but as a teacher…
Well, that wasn’t really a problem. She had five years of teaching experience. Everything she needed to know, she already knew. This little thing wouldn’t faze her.
After paying the bill on her phone, Su Li stood up and walked out of the restaurant.
As she was thinking about strolling around, her phone suddenly rang. She looked at the caller ID, and her expression froze.
“Li Yitong!?”
Su Li was familiar with that name. Li Yitong was a teacher from the same school, and someone Su Li had once “captured.” Why was she calling now?
After five years, the events of today from five years ago had faded from her memory.
Thinking of the new information in her mind, Su Li immediately became alert. She took a deep breath and quietly answered the phone.
“Hello, is this Teacher Su Li?”
