Chapter 23: I Just Want To Be Invisible
“Uwah!”
Su Li’s eyes flew open, and as soon as she saw the familiar ceiling, she instinctively reached up to feel her neck. After confirming that there was no collar around it, she finally let out a silent sigh of relief.
She’d had a dream—one that was anything but kind to her. In it, Li Yitong had successfully “captured” her and turned her into a living hot weapon, with all sorts of bizarre plays and unmentionable tools. Just thinking about it now made her want to avert her gaze from her own memories.
She couldn’t understand why she would dream about something so strange. Was it because she was too anxious about being “conquered” that she ended up dreaming of such a scenario?
Well, whatever the reason, it was just a dream.
There’s a saying that dreams are the opposite of reality—so maybe it meant she wouldn’t be conquered after all.
Burying her face into the soft pillow, she indulged in the comfort for just a moment before her alarm rang out. Su Li reluctantly stretched out her hand and turned it off. Then, with a lazy groan, she kicked off her blanket and rolled out of bed.
She stretched lazily—then froze.
Something felt off.
She looked down. At first glance, everything seemed normal. But she could clearly feel it—her panties were damp.
Even Su Li, as thick-skinned as she was, couldn’t stop the faint blush that spread across her cheeks at that realization.
Without hesitation, she went straight to the wardrobe, grabbed a fresh change of clothes and a clean pair of panties, and rushed into the bathroom.
Quite a while later, Su Li emerged from the bathroom again. The blush had faded from her face, and she looked completely normal—save for the new pair of underwear now hanging among the laundry on her balcony.
She had dreamed of something utterly miserable, and yet this had happened… Su Li didn’t even know what to say anymore. She could only chalk it up to a normal physiological response.
Shaking her head lightly, she picked up her bag and left the apartment.
She had barely taken a few steps downstairs when a familiar voice rang out behind her:
“Su Li, wait for me!”
Hearing that voice, Su Li stopped in her tracks and turned around to see Ling Luo rushing out from the stairwell.
It was almost impressive that she could run that fast in heels.
After taking a couple of deep breaths, Ling Luo said, “I heard the door open while I was still putting on my shoes. Good thing I rushed out, or I might’ve missed you.”
“You didn’t have to rush,” Su Li replied. “You could’ve just called out to me.”
“I was afraid you’d be gone already~”
As the two chatted, across the street in another building, Shen Qingxia quietly stepped out.
She looked silently in Su Li’s direction. Her original plan had been to come downstairs just as Su Li left, so they could “coincidentally” run into each other. But unexpectedly, someone had cut in ahead of her.
She stared at Ling Luo standing next to Su Li.
If she remembered correctly, that was Su Li’s neighbor. Like herself, someone who shouldn’t be appearing at this hour. Shen Qingxia had originally considered renting the unit next to Su Li’s, only to find someone had already beaten her to it.
It now seemed clear—this neighbor girl was the one who got there first.
Still… someone who shouldn’t be here at this time of day was here.
Something flickered deep in Shen Qingxia’s eyes.
Ling Luo, who had been mid-conversation with Su Li, suddenly sensed something. She glanced around—and her gaze landed on Shen Qingxia.
In that instant, both women had the same thought:
Something isn’t right.
Before her rebirth, when Ling Luo had moved in, Shen Qingxia had already been one of Su Li’s students. From her interactions with Su Li, Ling Luo had heard about her and knew that she was a transfer student who arrived just six months earlier.
She’d even seen her in person a few times.
Someone who shouldn’t appear until six months later… Why was she here now?
That was extremely suspicious.
Two possibilities crossed Ling Luo’s mind.
One, her own rebirth had caused a butterfly effect that altered the timeline.
Two—Shen Qingxia, like herself, was also reborn.
If it was the former, then things were still manageable. But if it was the latter… then the situation just became significantly more complicated.
Her own edge as a reborn person would shrink drastically.
It was a scenario Ling Luo didn’t want to consider—but the current evidence left her no choice but to prepare for the worst.
She retracted her gaze and turned back to Su Li. “Su Li, let’s go. We still have to grab breakfast. If we don’t hurry, we’ll be late.”
“Ah… yeah.”
Su Li had just turned around when she noticed Shen Qingxia. Her face showed the perfect amount of surprise, then she smiled and said cheerfully, “Shen Qingxia, you’re up early! Want to have breakfast with your teacher? Oh right, she’s a student in my class—her name is Shen Qingxia.”
Shen Qingxia gave Ling Luo a very polite greeting, then agreed to Su Li’s invitation without hesitation.
Su Li’s expression didn’t change, but inwardly she was already sighing.
This girl really doesn’t hold back, huh?
Still, it was just breakfast. She might be broke, but she could still afford that much.
Even though she now had two reborn individuals around her, Su Li wasn’t particularly worried. If there were only one, she might’ve been nervous. But with two, there would be natural checks and balances.
Even if neither of them could confirm the other’s status, they’d at least be suspicious. After all, it was strange for someone to show up at a time they originally shouldn’t.
That little bit of wariness would make them focus on each other—while Su Li could quietly slip through the cracks.
Just like Akari from “Yuru Yuri”.
This kind of opportunity was rare.
In her mind, Su Li imagined Saint Hui standing at her side, and Akari cheering her on.
Yes! She just wanted to be a quiet little nobody!
Treat her like a total background character, and everything would be fine!
