Chapter 14: Rather Than A Boyfriend, I’d Rather Have A Girlfriend
“Mmm, got it. Please wait a moment, teachers. The food will be out soon.”
Li Zi jotted down the dishes Li Yitong ordered with casual ease, then turned and headed straight into the kitchen. Her expression never changed once during the entire process.
That lack of reaction made Li Yitong frown inwardly with doubt.
Had she misjudged?
…No, it was too early to draw conclusions just yet.
As Li Yitong fell into thought, Su Li suddenly piped up, “Wow, Miss Li, your taste in food is just like mine!”
Hearing that, Li Yitong gave a perfect, gentle smile and said, “Oh, I just picked things randomly. That’s how I usually order when I come here.”
“Really?”
“Mmm. As for why our tastes match… I suppose it’s just a coincidence.”
Su Li smiled on the surface, looking like she accepted that explanation. But inside?
She was silently roasting Li Yitong.
As if she didn’t know exactly what this woman liked to eat?
Li Yitong rarely came to this restaurant. Even when she did, she never ordered these dishes. No doubt she picked them based on Su Li’s preferences.
But then again… wasn’t that a bit reckless of her? Wasn’t she afraid of exposing her identity as a reborn person?
Wait. Actually, even if Li Yitong was exposed, it wasn’t that big of a deal.
Unlike Su Li—who’d left behind a trail of seduced girls and romantic chaos in her past life—
Li Yitong had always been popular, well-liked, and on good terms with just about everyone. She didn’t have to worry.
That’s probably why she acted so boldly.
Just thinking about how many more reborn people might be out there made Su Li feel a creeping sense of dread. It was only her second day after reincarnation, and she already felt this much pressure.
She didn’t know how long she could keep this up…
Still, as long as she could convince all the girls she’d once “captured” that she wasn’t a reborn person, she might be able to coast through safely.
And if worst came to worst… she’d just have to go on the offensive.
Before any of them could “capture” her, she’d just “capture” them first.
After all, for every girl she’d dated in her last life, Su Li could remember their likes, dislikes, and habits perfectly—even after all this time. With that kind of insider knowledge, doing a second-round capture wouldn’t be hard.
Probably…
—
Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Li Zi was distracted. Her expression was subtly odd, her hands a bit clumsy—clearly not all there.
Her mind kept returning to how strange Li Yitong had seemed earlier.
As her student, she’d interacted with Li Yitong plenty before. But something about her today had felt off. Weird. Unsettling.
What exactly had changed?
Something about that earlier moment had made her think of Li Yitong from before her own rebirth.
She didn’t know why she’d thought of that. It just felt… familiar.
“Li Zi! Hey, Li Zi!”
Snapped out of her daze by her mother’s voice, Li Zi looked up to see her mom giving her a helpless expression.
“I’ve called you several times already. Take this dish out, will you? It’s for Table Three. Stop spacing out—we’re going to get a rush soon.”
“…Okay.”
—
During lunch, Su Li embodied the old saying “Don’t talk while you eat.”
Or at least, she tried.
But once Li Yitong started talking, she couldn’t very well ignore her.
“Teacher Su, you’re so cute. Do you have a boyfriend?”
“N-not yet,” Su Li mumbled shyly, lowering her head.
On the inside, though, she was screaming.
Boyfriend? That species doesn’t even exist in her world!
The question reminded her of a novel she’d once read, where a scummy guy got reborn and gender-swapped—and every single girl he’d dated before also got transformed.
She shuddered just thinking about what that main character went through later.
So really, Su Li figured her current situation wasn’t too bad.
If none of the girls she’d “captured” had been reborn, then everything would be fine. She was basically the chosen one in a face-slapping rebirth drama now.
Ahem, back to reality.
With a curious smile, Su Li asked, “By the way, Miss Li… do you have a boyfriend?”
“Nope,” Li Yitong replied breezily. “Actually, I’d rather have a girlfriend than a boyfriend. And I think teacher Su is pretty great~”
Though the words sounded like a joke, Li Yitong’s expression was dead serious.
Su Li had no idea how to respond.
Was this woman… seriously making a move on her?
“Miss Li, you really know how to joke.”
“Just trying to lighten the mood. By the way, why don’t we just call each other by name? All this teacher this, teacher that feels so stiff.”
“Sure, that works.”
Thinking back, in her previous life, it took her until her second year of teaching before she and Li Yitong were on a first-name basis.
Now it was Day Two, and they were already here.
If it weren’t for the extra memories in her brain from her past life, Su Li would be completely freaked out.
As the two chatted, Su Li kept stealing glances at Shen Qingxia, who was also eating nearby.
Even during lunch, that girl’s eyes never left her.
Su Li felt she really needed to address that issue. If Li Yitong weren’t here, she would’ve gone to talk to her already. But for now, she’d just pretend not to notice.
—
After lunch, Su Li said she needed to go home for a bit. Li Yitong didn’t follow her this time.
But Shen Qingxia did, same as always.
Seeing that Li Yitong wasn’t around, Su Li considered her options. Then she stopped walking, turned around, and headed straight for Shen Qingxia.
Standing before her, Su Li tilted her head and asked curiously, “Shen Qingxia, is there something you need from me, your teacher?”
“No… I just think… you remind me of someone. A very close friend,” Shen Qingxia said, her eyes fixed on Su Li.
“I look like one of your friends?”
Su Li blinked, putting on her best confused and innocent face, like she truly had no idea what Shen Qingxia was talking about.
“Mmm. I’m not following you or anything. I just happen to be heading home to rest too. It’s just a coincidence.”
Su Li paused. That didn’t add up.
If she remembered correctly, Shen Qingxia didn’t live anywhere near here…
Wait a minute.
A chilling thought crossed her mind.
Did Shen Qingxia rent a place near her house?!
