Chapter 100: Title
Discipline Hall—
Elder Xuwu massaged his temples, eyeing Xia Wuwei and Ye Xiao who’d been dragged in by Shen Huaiwen. After a long silence, he sighed heavily.
"You two… tsk!"
He couldn’t even muster proper scolding. These frequent visitors from five centuries past—one now sect leader, the other a Divine Lady—still ending up here for fighting?
Ye Xiao stood defiant, convinced he’d shown restraint.
"Senior sister~" Xia Shi turned tearful eyes toward Shen Huaiwen, only to be met with a venomous glare.
"See? She hits me then glares at me!"
Ye Xiao: "…"
Shen Huaiwen’s disapproving gaze swept over him.
Ye Xiao snorted, turning away bitterly.
Always taking her side!
"No private duels in the sect—you know the rules. Copy the sect rules in the Scripture Hall," Elder Xuwu waved dismissively, headache worsening. Managing junior disciples was tiresome enough without millennium-old troublemakers adding to his woes.
If not for one being the former sect leader and the other the Divine Lady, he would’ve made them apologize before the entire sect. But severe punishment would’ve caused loss of face.
"Perhaps… that’s not feasible."
Xuwu widened his eyes, surprise flashing through his gaze.
Xia Shi smiled faintly and pointed upwards.
Ye Xiao nearly snapped "What? Can’t handle punishment now that you’re Divine Lady?" when Yan Li rushed in breathlessly.
The former sect leader remained hunched as Yan Li surveyed the room.
After formal greetings, she turned to Xia Shi. "Canghai’s messengers seek you."
Xia Shi showed no surprise, as if expecting this.
A century had transformed Canghai. Though less forceful than his father, Jiang Xinian had restored the Esteemed Elders Sect’s vitality as their new Leader. The great sect now flourished again.
Jiang Xinian bowed respectfully. "Divine Lady."
"I know why you’ve come. That old matter needs closure." Xia Shi inclined her head. "I’ll accompany you."
"Your mercy honors us."
"Leaving after one day?" Ye Xiao’s brow furrowed. The Sanqing Realm was her home – absent for a century, returning yesterday only to depart again.
Shen Huaiwen tugged her sleeve. "She serves the Heavenly Dao now. We mustn’t interfere."
As Xia Shi left, Elder Xuwu cleared his throat. "Enough lingering. To the Scripture Hall."
Ye Xiao: "…"
Xia Shi escaped punishment while she remained.
Unfair!!!
…
Realm of Canghai.
Before Four Seasons Hall, chains bound a sharp-eyed woman who gazed ahead with comforting warmth.
Jiang Yun strained forward repeatedly, only to be restrained by Jiang Wan.
"Wanwan."
"Mother, Xinian’s fetching the Divine Lady." Jiang Wan’s voice tangled with conflicting emotions. This prisoner was both her aunt and the Xu family’s butcher.
This woman who shared such bonds with her mother…
Regret shadowed Jiang Yun’s eyes. She and Fenghe had lived quietly in Kunlun per Xia Shi’s arrangement. But Canghai remained her homeland. After the century-old tragedy, Fenghe brought her back to ease her troubled heart.
Instead, they’d unearthed the Xu family massacre. The surviving Xu heir demanded blood vengeance. With Canghai disciples stirring unrest, Jiang Xinian could only appeal to the Divine Lady’s judgment.
As Jiang Xinian explained during their journey, Suiyin gasped. "Liu Sheng is the Xu family’s surviving son?!"
Jiang Xinian nodded.
Years ago, Jiang Fenghe stormed into the Xu family compound alone with his blade, originally seeking justice for his sister. But when he personally witnessed his sister’s humiliation at the Xu residence, he lost control. Overcome by murderous intent, he left no survivors.
When Jiang Liu arrived later, the Xu family courtyard had become a river of blood. Jiang Fenghe cradled his sister’s body, glaring coldly at him. "This is what you called ‘living well’?"
Jiang Liu didn’t stop him, but discovered someone had secretly hidden the Xu family’s youngest child from detection.
Deeming the innocent child blameless, he took the child back to the main family. Renamed Liu Sheng, the boy became Jiang Xinian’s study companion.
Jiang Liu later substituted punishments during the heavenly retribution to save Jiang Fenghe.
Though everyone assumed the matter settled, Jiang Fenghe’s current return to Canghai with Jiang Yun had awakened Liu Sheng’s buried hatred. Though usually gentle and well-liked by Canghai disciples, Jiang Fenghe’s past as City Lord of the Thirteen Ghost Domains made many believe this monster deserved death for his crimes.
Jiang Xinian sighed deeply. Having grown up together and shared heartfelt talks with Liu Sheng, he’d never imagined such hatred lay beneath. Witnessing family slaughter must cast eternal shadows.
After revealing himself as the Xu family’s surviving heir, Liu Sheng swore he only sought Jiang Fenghe’s death – no other Jiang family members.
"By rights this is Jiang family business. But Jiang Fenghe truly exterminated the Xu clan. He already received heavenly punishment – only Father’s favor preserved his life. Now…"
With Jiang Fenghe still living, the old wounds remained unhealed.
During their discussion, the trio reached Canghai’s skies.
Spotting the dark mass of people below, Xia Shi descended sword-first.
As the Divine Lady approached, the crowd bowed in unison.
"Divine Lady! Grant justice for my Xu family!" Liu Sheng choked back emotions, murderous intent swirling in his gaze.
Xia Shi observed him. She remembered him and Jiang Xinian as carefree youths in Lingyang Secret Realm. Now he seemed transformed – youthful softness replaced by hatred’s sharp edges.
The trial commenced when Xia Shi took her seat.
Kneeling below, Liu Sheng painfully recounted the massacre. He concluded with his demand: Jiang Fenghe’s death and soul annihilation.
"Why destroy the family?" Xia Shi questioned.
Liu Sheng froze, mouth opening soundlessly. His memories held only a bloodied blade and the man’s merciless face.
"No excuse justifies slaughtering a clan!" supporters cried.
Jiang Fenghe offered no defense. Narrowing his eyes at the kneeling figure, he sneered, "You should thank fate I missed you."
Had he found the child then, none would have survived.
Xia Shi frowned at this bloodthirsty remark.
Instantly, discontent rippled through Canghai disciples. Voices rose in chaos.
"Silence!" Jiang Xinian barked.
"Divine Lady’s judgment!" Liu Sheng pressed his forehead to the ground.
“Divine Lady!” Jiang Yun knelt down, tears flowing freely. “This is all my fault. I told her to go to the Xu family. Punish me instead, I beg you…”
“Sister!” Jiang Fenghe couldn’t stand seeing her plead like this. The chains binding his wrists rattled violently as he strained.
“Karma repays all deeds. The Xu family used living people to craft puppets—a forbidden act.” Xia Shi pulled records of the Xu family’s downfall from the Book of All Knowledge, projecting the scenes onto a watery screen for the crowd.
The vision showed the Xu mansion’s back gate. Servants scurried in and out, hauling withered corpses drained of spiritual power. The dead bore bluish faces and unnaturally crimson eyes.
“These aren’t Qing Gui’s puppets!” Canghai disciples murmured, their voices tight. Yet there they were—in the Xu family’s hands.
The screen rippled, shifting to three figures: Qing Gui, a frail-looking woman, and the Xu family head at the center. Xia Shi narrowed her eyes. The pallid woman was unmistakably Pei Jiu, though she’d clearly stolen another’s body at the time.
“This will truly restore my family’s standing?” The Xu patriarch’s face twisted with manic hope.
“Without doubt,” Qing Gui answered.
“But the Jiang clan won’t fall easily,” he fretted.
Pei Jiu’s gaze turned icy. She proposed a blood curse linking the Jiang family’s direct descendants—targeting the old Leader, Jiang Fenghe, and Jiang Liu.
Since the Jiang and Xu families were betrothed, the Xu patriarch sought Jiang Yun’s hand, knowing her inability to cultivate made her vulnerable. Though the Jiang and Xu clans rivaled in Canghai, the old Leader approved the marriage to maintain peace.
Jiang Fenghe had left for training after quarreling with his sister. When he returned to find her wedded into the Xu family, he raged at their father and was imprisoned.
The Xu family never learned Jiang Yun wasn’t the Leader’s blood daughter—merely an adopted ward. When Pei Jiu and Qing Gui abandoned their scheme, the Xu patriarch blamed Jiang Yun.
A woman without spiritual power faced grim prospects in that treacherous household. Yet they dared not kill her, for she remained Jiang blood.
After his release, Jiang Fenghe stormed the Xu estate to see his sister. What followed became the family’s undoing.
Liu Sheng collapsed to his knees. Raised by the Jiangs, he’d always known right from wrong. Now that certainty crumbled.
Silence gripped the Canghai disciples. Some even thought the Xu family deserved their fate. Until their last days, they’d kept crafting puppets from living disciples. Canghai’s rot had festered within the Xu clan all along.
Jiang Fenghe laughed bitterly. “Was I wrong?”
“You were.”
Jiang Fenghe looked up at the person in the main seat.
Xia Shi closed the Book of All Knowledge and tilted her head, motioning for Suiyin to help Jiang Yun rise.
"The Xu family’s crimes don’t extend to their wives and daughters. They’re innocent."
Jiang Fenghe lowered his eyes, silently accepting her judgment.
Back then, blinded by rage at seeing his sister gravely wounded, he’d swung his sword without care, taking his fury out on the entire Xu family.
He exhaled deeply and stopped resisting.
"No… please…" Jiang Yun tried to beg again, but Suiyin shook her head at her.
"Your spiritual root will be removed, making you mortal. Any objections?"
Jiang Fenghe’s first thought was of Jiang Yun. This way, they could grow old together.
What use were cultivation or realms? He’d abandon them all for his sister.
"None!"
"Liu Sheng?" Xia Shi turned to the man.
Without Jiang Fenghe in the Nine Realms, how was this different from death?
He shook his head, throat tight. "None."
"Good."
Xia Shi personally escorted them to the mortal realm. Jiang Yun never belonged in the Nine Realms anyway. After whispering final instructions to Jiang Wan, the Divine Lady departed with them.
…
"Lingyang City!"
Suiyin gaped at the bustling town.
The very place Pei Jiu had conjured – and it truly existed in the mortal world!
"Come." Xia Shi took her hand with a smile.
Jiang Fenghe and Jiang Yun trailed behind.
"Do you think Qingxue remains here?" Suiyin asked, lingering regrets coloring her voice.
"Who knows?"
Xia Shi’s answer hung ambiguously, but Suiyin caught the hidden meaning. She knew Xia Shi too well – if things went awry, there’d be lectures about accepting fate.
Yet she simply said:
"Who knows?"
The words lifted Suiyin’s spirits, smoothing away her regrets.
"Mrrow!"
A pitch-black cat blocked their path, yowling up at them.
"Apologies! She’s harmless, don’t fear!"
A beautiful woman jogged over and carefully lifted the pitch-black cat.
"You…!"
Her eyes curved into crescents as she made the cat’s paw wave slightly.
"Hello, I’m Qingxue."
"Meow."
