Chapter 95: The Rampaging Divine Artifact
Liu Qing’s face twisted with anger as she gritted her teeth. "They somehow learned spiritual energy could nourish the land. For years, they’ve been luring cultivators into this cave under the pretense of monster extermination, draining them until they died. They just never got caught before."
Cultivators never guarded against ordinary people, making their scheme work repeatedly. But they never anticipated Zhen Yan Sect disciples being different from other sects’ trainees – carrying messaging talismans, reporting daily, maintaining constant communication. So the townsfolk decided to lure everyone here at once.
You You suddenly remembered the eerie sacrificial altar outside. So her sect’s disciples were being used as living sacrifices?
Damn!
Rage flooded her chest before another thought struck. "Wait, if they used you as sacrifices, how did the entire town die?"
"The whole town’s dead?!" Liu Qing looked more shocked than anyone. The other disciples exchanged confused glances.
"You didn’t know?" You You’s eyes widened.
"We’ve been trapped here for days," Liu Qing shook her head. "They kept bringing more brothers in. Without Lin Feng and Yin Fan’s help, we’d have been drained long ago." Her face clouded with worry. "What about Lin Feng and the others?"
"Lin Feng and Yin Fan aren’t here?!" You You’s heart dropped as she noticed their absence. "What happened? Where are they?"
"Still inside!" Liu Qing wrung her hands. "They were first to be trapped. The energy-draining formation was too strong – some nearly died. Lin Feng forced a breakthrough to trigger Heavenly Tribulation and destroy it. But…" Her voice cracked, "Destroying the formation awakened something underground!"
Tears welled in her eyes. "Sect Master, there’s something down there – not a monster. Black marks appeared everywhere. Lin Feng and Yin Fan stayed to hold it off while we escaped, but that barrier trapped us! We don’t know if they’re…"
"Ling Qi, get everyone out now," You You ordered. "I’m going in." She charged deeper into the cave before anyone could react, Feng Rong barely keeping pace.
They ran through winding tunnels until white light flooded their vision. The cavern opened into a massive sunlit sinkhole the size of a stadium, air crackling with residual lightning from recent tribulation.
At the center loomed an inverted translucent cauldron large as a building. Violent black mist billowed from its surface, scarring the ground wherever it touched. More darkness crept from beneath it like roots.
"Earth-Shaking Cauldron!" Feng Rong paled.
You You spotted two bloodied figures beneath the artifact. "Lin Feng! Yin Fan!" She lunged forward, only to recoil as black tendrils seared her arm. The pain surpassed anything she’d felt before – even Chili Sword’s energy.
"You idiot!" Feng Rong yanked her back, healing the blistering wound. "That’s an ancient earth-type divine artifact! You can’t touch it while standing on ground!"
"But they’re…" She stared at the kneeling figures struggling beneath the cauldron’s pressure.
"Forcefully breaking it would kill them faster!" Feng Rong snapped. "The townspeople’s life-draining ritual poisoned the land. Those black marks are the earth’s backlash."
"There must be a way!"
Feng Rong hesitated before growling, "I’ll tear a spatial rift above it. My flames might suppress the chaos long enough for you to grab them."
"Can you handle that?"
"Just move fast!" He soared upward, summoning a Spirit Sword. With a earth-shaking slash, reality itself split open above the cauldron.
They plunged through the rift into the artifact’s core. Rampaging darkness immediately assaulted them. Feng Rong’s hands flew through seals, unleashing crimson flames dotted with blazing red lotuses that forced the corruption back.
"There!" He nodded toward two slumped forms. "Go! I can’t hold this long. Take them and…"
Before he finished, You You already had both men slung over her shoulders. A Spirit Sword materialized underfoot as she rocketed through the rift, vanishing skyward without looking back.
Feng Rong: "…"
He stared at the empty space where she’d stood. Though this was the plan, her abrupt departure left bitter ashes in his chest.
Hmph. Heartless brat.
Not even a farewell. After all he…
Ah, whatever. He’d chosen this himself.
