Chapter 83: The First Injury
You You brushed the snow off the stone wall and leaned closer, noticing faint strange patterns within the triangular notch. From a distance, they resembled ordinary cracks, but upon closer inspection, they revealed an organized design. She traced the grooves while puzzling over how to trigger the mechanism.
Feng Rong’s expression darkened. His palms clenched repeatedly as anxiety flickered across his face. “These ruins are complex,” he urged. “The entrance likely has restrictive formations. Since you don’t understand formations, we should—”
*Boom—*
Before he finished, the stone wall emitted blinding white light under You You’s touch. A swirling formation materialized, warping space until a passageway tore open.
The entrance… was open.
Feng Rong: “…”
(⊙_⊙)
“Seemed easy enough!” You You grinned at the speechless Feng Rong, gesturing inside. “Let’s go!”
He gripped his sleeves, hesitation coloring his tone. “Are you… certain about entering?”
“Why not?” She tilted her head, studying his unusual solemnity. “Scared? Don’t worry—I’ll protect you!”
Instead of his usual fiery retort, he silently floated into the formation’s core. You You shrugged and followed, though she could’ve sworn a wisp of purple energy flickered within the formation.
Darkness engulfed them as they crossed into another space. The biting cold vanished, replaced by a suffocating, violent aura. A shrill whistle pierced the air—
“Feng Rong!” You You yanked him backward just as something smashed into where they’d stood, carving meter-deep cracks into the stone wall.
Golden light flared as Feng Rong summoned a protective talisman. Flames bloomed in his palm, revealing the devastation around them—shattered stone pillars, collapsed walls, and eerie purple mist coiling through the ruins.
“Sword energy.” Feng Rong examined the fresh gashes.
“But there’s no one here!” You You scanned the shadows.
He pulled her closer. “Stay near me.”
As they navigated the crumbling corridors, thunderous crashes echoed ahead. The path led to a half-collapsed palace drowning in thick purple haze.
“The ruins’ core!” You You approached cautiously.
*Whoosh—*
Dozens of violet sword lights erupted from the ruins. Feng Rong’s protective talisman shattered under the barrage. A blade of energy sliced toward him—
You You jerked him sideways. Cold pierced her arm.
“You You!” Feng Rong stared at the bleeding cut, trembling. Crimson flames exploded around him, devouring the remaining sword energy as he lunged toward the palace.
“Wait!” She grabbed his arm. “Our textbooks are in there!”
The flames died. His murderous intent faded into shaky breaths as he hovered over her injury. “…Does it hurt?”
You You blinked. The scratch had already stopped bleeding. “It’s just a—”
Feng Rong’s ashen face suggested he’d been mortally wounded instead.
