Chapter 72: The Criminal Roster
With Yuan Qi and Feng Rong’s help, the Zhen Yan Sect swiftly cleared out the entire den of evil. Ming You Valley had plagued the Immortal Realm for years, but its hidden location kept the immortal sects from tracking it down. The Master of Ming You Valley, a late-stage God Transformation evil cultivator, made matters worse. His unchecked reign let these villains grow bolder, even kidnapping women for their twisted Cultivation practices.
If You You hadn’t been accidentally trafficked there, countless more women would’ve suffered.
“Sect Master,” Ling Qi reported, holding documents, “besides the earlier rescues, we saved forty-five women from the Xuan Yue Building—all former cultivators. How should we handle them?”
“Huh?” You You blinked. “Don’t they want to return? If they practiced Cultivation, they must have sects to go back to.”
“True, but…” Ling Qi’s face darkened. “Their foundations are ruined, their cultivation is gone, and they’re cursed with poison. Even if cured, they’ll never cultivate again. Their original sects might…”
“They’re scared their sects won’t take them back?”
“More than that!” Ling Qi clenched his jaw. “Most said their own sect members betrayed them. Many know exactly who sold them out.”
“What?!” You You gaped. “Their own people trafficked them?!”
“Yes.” Ling Qi pulled out a booklet. “We found this in the Xuan Yue Building.”
You You flipped through pages of unfamiliar names. “What’s this?”
“A roster of visitors,” Ling Qi explained. “Aside from Ming You Valley’s evil cultivators, it lists… disciples from other sects!”
You You’s expression hardened. She’d suspected sect involvement after Zhan Zhen’s words, but this proved it. Darkness lurked everywhere. “Can we identify them?”
“We’ve cross-checked,” Ling Qi said. “They’re from various sects, even the Three Sects and Six Schools. Some are nobodies, others famous cultivators.”
“Damn!” You You muttered. No wonder the women refused to return—their sects harbored monsters. “Should we tell their celestial maidens?”
“Pointless!” Feng Rong scoffed from his seat. “If those maidens cared, this wouldn’t have happened. Even if you notify them, most culprits will walk free. Their sects will spin excuses to cover it up.”
“Exactly,” Ling Qi agreed. “Without solid proof, they’ll deny everything or claim the roster’s fake. Some might say they were undercover investigators.”
“Then what?” You You frowned. “We can’t let this slide. There’ll be another Xuan Yue Building!”
Feng Rong smirked, barely hiding his pride. “I have an idea.”
“What?”
He relished her expectant gaze before tapping the roster. “Whether the sects believe this doesn’t matter. What matters is… if *everyone* else believes it.”
“You mean… spread the word?”
“Flood the realm with copies.” Feng Rong grinned. “Once the world knows, the sects *have* to act. Their precious reputations will force them to clean house.”
You You nodded. Image-obsessed sects would crack down to save face.
“But this paints a target on us,” Ling Qi warned. “They’ll trace the roster to Zhen Yan Sect.”
“Let them!” Feng Rong shrugged. “They’ll stay quiet—or even thank us. Attacking us now would mark them as collaborators.”
“But future retaliation…”
You You patted Ling Qi’s shoulder. “With our sect’s state, what’s there to lose? Once we’re stronger, it won’t matter.”
Ling Qi: “…”
“Where’s Yuan Qi?” You You glanced around.
“Still at Ming You Valley,” Ling Qi said. “While chasing stragglers, he… found things.”
“Like what?”
Ling Qi scanned his notes. “The valley master’s treasure vaults—pills, talismans, spirit stones, Spiritual Plants, refining materials… All half-stocked.”
You You: “…”
Feng Rong: “…”
Since when did “clearing evil” mean looting the place? Divine Clan luck struck again.
