Chapter 47: The Guiding Little Monster
The group’s eyes lit up. Lin Feng asked bluntly, “Noble Lady, do you know a suitable location?”
“Yes!” She nodded.
“Where?” Ling Qi pressed urgently.
Before she could answer, the bristling figure beside her suddenly snapped his head toward her, eyes widening. “You plan to build the sect at that ancient relic in the meadow!”
“Exactly!” You You nodded. “It’s a good spot. Even though it’s mostly ruined, we’re rebuilding anyway. And that pool we saw last time—that’s a spiritual pond, right?” A spiritual pond meant a spiritual vein. Perfect!
Lin Feng and the others instantly recalled the ancient relic incident, all turning to glare accusingly at Feng Rong, who was lost in thought. They hadn’t forgotten it was his doing that trapped them there.
“What?” Feng Rong shot back defiantly, a flicker of guilt in his eyes but his tone haughty. “Believe it or not, I only wanted a magical tool from there. Didn’t plan to trap you.” He’d disabled all traps and mechanisms—how was he to know they’d trigger the seal?
Lin Feng snorted and looked away. Though still irritated, he held his tongue since Feng Rong had helped You You this time.
“Feng Rong,” You You asked, “with your high cultivation, can you confirm if there’s a spiritual vein in that relic?” The spiritual energy there had felt strongest to her.
“There is,” Feng Rong rolled his eyes, as if she’d taken too long to ask. “But the terrain’s complex, and it’s nearly destroyed. The vein’s hidden—finding it won’t be easy.”
An immortal sect couldn’t just be built atop a vein. It required balancing the five elements, harmonizing yin and yang, and setting a protective mountain formation to cycle spiritual energy without loss. Pinpointing the vein’s exact location and flow was crucial.
“No problem—we’ve got a guide!” You You tugged out a plump pouch from her side.
“What’s that?” Ling Qi blinked.
“A guardian beast I found on the road.”
“…” Since when could guardian beasts be casually “found”?
You You tapped the pouch’s bottom. “Little monster, come out. Let’s talk.”
A grumpy voice echoed from inside. “Dead.”
Everyone: “…”
…Quite the attitude.
You You’s eye twitched. She flipped the pouch upside down, and a white fluffball thudded to the ground.
“Ow!” The little monster, Wen Ze, yelped, rolling onto his back before scrambling up. His few remaining tufts bristled as he snarled, “You big bully! What now?!”
You You stared at the balding creature. “Huh? Your fur’s still not back?” It’d been a month.
Wen Ze stiffened, then lunged for the pouch. “None of your business! Give it back!” He yanked it from her grip, cramming himself inside to hide his bald patches, only his head peeking out as he glowered.
“…” So image-conscious. You You cut to the chase. “Little monster, you lived in that relic. Know where the spiritual vein is?”
Wen Ze huffed. “Why should I? You wrecked my home!”
“Sure about that?”
“I’ll never help you! Never!”
You You’s forehead vein twitched. “Choose: guide us, or I pluck the rest of your fur.”
Wen Ze gaped, trembling. “Y-You…” His eyes welled up. “Waaah! You monster! My fur… all gone… I’m hideous! Just kill me! I’d rather die bald than help you! Waaah!”
You You: "……"
Everyone: "……"
Why did they suddenly feel guilty like they were mistreating a small animal?
"Alright… stop crying!" You You’s anger completely dissolved under the pitiful wails, making her coax gently.
"No! I’ll keep crying!" Wen Ze wailed harder, thrashing on the floor. "My fur won’t regrow! I hid for a whole month and it’s still gone! I’ll never look majestic again, waaaah…"
"Uh…" So he’d been hiding in the bag this whole time because he felt too embarrassed about being bald?
Why did this suddenly feel so tragic?
"Maybe… wait a few more days? It might grow back!" Do animals really care this much about their fur?
"It’ll NEVER grow!" He wept desperately, looking utterly defeated. "I should just die!"
You You sighed. Since she’d adopted him, she tried comforting, "How about this? After we establish our Sect, I’ll search for hair-regrowth spellcasting techniques to restore your fur?"
Wen Ze stopped mid-roll, tearful eyes widening. "Really?"
"Of course!" You You nodded firmly. "I never break promises!" Surely the immortal cultivation world had solutions for baldness?
Probably?
His tears vanished instantly. He sprang up excitedly. "Deal! I’ll go now!" He immediately bounded toward the windowsill.
"Where?" You You grabbed the windowsill.
"To find the spiritual vein!" Wen Ze scratched the floor impatiently. "Your Spirit Ship’s too slow. I’m faster."
He jumped out and instantly expanded into a giant beast dwarfing the ship. Chomping the front towrope, he yanked the vessel forward with explosive force.
His speed multiplied the ship’s velocity instantly, making it streak through clouds like lightning. Only Ling Qi’s quick activation of the protective barrier prevented everyone from being flung overboard.
You You: "……"
Is hair regrowth really that motivating?
The entire crew stared dumbfounded at their new tow-beast. Ling Qi gaped at the giant beast before asking, "Master, what tier is this guardian beast?"
"No idea." You You shrugged. "Never asked."
"……” Since when did people adopt guardian beasts so casually?!
