Chapter 32: Verification of the Celestial Maiden
“Celestial maiden, please take your seat!” Ling Qi pointed toward the front of the grand hall.
At the center stood a raised platform holding a single chair, surrounded by strange carved symbols. A skylight above let sunlight spill onto the platform, framing it in a glowing circle as if to emphasize its sacred status.
You You didn’t hesitate and walked straight up. Lin Feng and the others moved to follow but were blocked by an attendant.
“Halt! You can’t go up!” A man in green robes snapped, glaring at them.
“Why?” Lin Feng frowned, unwilling to stay too far from You You.
“Know your place! This is the Blessing Platform,” the man sneered. “Even confirmed Followers of the celestial maiden aren’t permitted here, let alone unknowns like you. Who knows if she’s even—”
“Chen Xi, enough!” Ling Qi cut him off with a sharp look.
The man flinched and stepped back, bowing his head. “Yes, Priest Ling.”
“My apologies for the discourtesy,” Ling Qi said calmly to Lin Feng’s group. “The Blessing Platform’s rules permit only the celestial maiden to ascend. Please sit here.” He gestured to chairs flanking the platform.
Though displeased, the four relented to avoid conflict with Cheng Tian Pavilion.
“Celestial maiden, proceed,” Ling Qi urged You You, remaining below.
You You noticed every eye in the hall fixed on her, especially the chastised man, who now wore a mocking smirk. Sensing no danger, she climbed the platform and approached the chair. As she moved to sit, the symbols blazed to life. A pillar of white light erupted from the platform, piercing the sky.
What the—glowing floor tiles?!
(⊙o⊙)
You You jumped back, only to find the crowd below in greater shock. The green-robed man gaped, stammering, “The Blessing Platform… lit up! She… she’s truly the celestial maiden!”
Lin Feng’s group rushed forward, pulling You You off the platform despite the intensifying light.
“Explain yourselves!” they demanded, shielding her with hands on sword hilts.
The hall stayed silent until Ling Qi dropped to his knees, bowing deeply.
“Cheng Tian Pavilion welcomes the celestial maiden’s descent! May fortune bless the Immortal Realm!”
Others followed, faces pale with dread where doubt once lingered.
“Forgive our disrespect, Noble Lady!” Ling Qi pleaded. “We had to verify your status—celestial maidens are pivotal figures. This Blessing Platform’s formation reacts only to a true celestial maiden, as set by the first herself.”
You You glanced at the radiant pillar. “So… I passed?”
“Indeed. We beg forgiveness for our caution.” Ling Qi turned to a disciple. “Summon all hall priests to greet the celestial maiden!”
The disciple scrambled out, tripping in his haste.
Truthfully, their skepticism wasn’t unwarranted. Imposters often claimed the celestial maiden title, though genuine candidates always emerged from noble immortal clans, already famed before reaching Cheng Tian Pavilion. A maiden appearing from the Mortal Realm, polite as any common cultivator? Unthinkable!
Yet here stood proof—a glowing platform and a hundred kneeling priests rushing into the hall, their thunderous greeting shaking the floating peak:
“WE WELCOME THE CELESTIAL MAIDEN!”
You You finally grasped Ling Qi’s apology. Compared to this crowd, their initial dozen-strong reception had been insultingly small.
