Chapter 29: Request Thunder, and Thunder Strikes
Lin Cheng had always known his son was extraordinary. Since childhood, Lin Feng had been the pride of the Lin family, unmatched in both scholarly pursuits and martial arts among Shangyang City’s youth – even throughout Fengtian Kingdom. His brilliance earned him the title "Fengtian’s First Young Master," but also attracted envy from petty men like Xu Shouyi.
The feud between Lin and Xu families boiled down to jealousy. Both were prominent families in Shangyang, and Xu Shouyi – being Lin Feng’s peer – constantly found himself overshadowed. While Yin Fan channeled this rivalry into self-improvement (their surface hostility masking deep camaraderie), Xu Shouyi let bitterness fester into hatred, obsessively scheming to crush Lin Feng.
Though the Lin family originally held equal status, everything changed with the approaching immortal sect Selection held every fifty years. Only one candidate from Shangyang could attend. In any other era, Lin Feng would’ve been the obvious choice.
Shangyang might be Fengtian’s crown jewel, but the Immortal Blessing Continent teemed with mightier nations and mysterious immortal sects. Noble families coveted sect connections – just one disciple could elevate a clan for generations, like Shangyang’s Xun family who’d maintained prestige for a hundred years after producing a cultivator.
When Xu Shouyi’s cousin became a female cultivator’s husband servant, gaining direct sect entry, the Xu family’s influence surged. Through underhanded means, they stole Lin Feng’s Selection spot for Xu Shouyi – who then humiliatingly failed the sect’s trials.
Blaming Lin Feng for this disgrace, Xu Shouyi leveraged his family’s sect ties to relentlessly attack the Lin family. Fear of immortal sects left the Lins vulnerable, suffering heavy losses. Even Yin Fan faced repercussions for aiding them.
Knowing the Xu family’s sect-backed advantage was insurmountable, Lin Feng exiled himself to a border city, hoping this sacrifice would spare his family.
Yet Xu Shouyi broke their unspoken agreement. Years later, he orchestrated a plot to exterminate the Lin clan.
Recalling the two fifth-level monsters, Lin Cheng shuddered. They’d have been devoured within minutes if Lin Feng hadn’t arrived. Who could’ve imagined the exiled son not only survived but became a cultivator?
And then there was the woman…
Lin Cheng’s knees still weakened remembering her.
A celestial maiden. An actual celestial maiden!!
w(Д)w
To mortals, celestial maidens were mythical beings – heavenly existences debated in legends. Yet here she stood, flesh and blood. The entire Lin household floated in dazed disbelief, feet barely touching the ground.
"Prioritize the injured!" she’d declared, sweeping past their gawking faces.
They watched her chant unknown words, hands fluttering over bloodied forms. Mortally wounded men – given hours to live by physicians – healed before their eyes. Flesh knitted, severed limbs regrew, death itself recoiling from her touch.
More astonishingly, the healed emerged transformed – chronic illnesses vanished, congenital defects erased, spiritual roots blossoming where none existed.
As Lin family members pinched themselves, the celestial maiden clapped briskly. "Might as well fix everyone. Bring all injured – I’ll plant spiritual roots for the brothers too."
She methodically healed every Lin casualty, then turned to Lin Feng’s teammates. Like a farmer sowing seeds, she pressed palms to foreheads, each touch accompanied by strange two-syllable chants – short, potent, carrying otherworldly resonance.
You You, having chanted "SB" all night: "…"
Well…
When you yell "SB" enough times, it just… sticks.
╮(╯▽╰)╭
Bizarrely, both recipients and onlookers listened raptly, faces glowing with fervor.
Magical, really.
Between the celestial maiden’s visit and mass spiritual root distribution, the Lin household floated through the night in collective delirium. Xu family schemes seemed distant concerns…
Until crashing gates announced their arrival.
Lin Cheng rushed to find Xu Shouyi invading with armed lackeys and a green-robed cultivator bearing cloud embroidery – clear immortal sect affiliation.
"Outrageous!" Lin Cheng roared. "How dare you storm our home?"
"Dear uncle," Xu Shouyi smirked, "your family endangered all Shangyang by bringing fifth-level monsters into the city. We’re here to deliver justice."
"Lies!" Lin Cheng’s voice shook. "You frame us for your own scheme!"
"Frame?" Xu Shouyi turned to the cultivator. "Immortal cultivator, witness how they shelter the monster-summoner Lin Feng! I beg you purge this evil!"
The cultivator nodded. "A few years’ cultivation can’t match proper sect training."
As they advanced, Lin Cheng blurted: "The celestial maiden rests here! You risk heavenly wrath!"
The invaders froze. Then Xu Shouyi howled laughter. "Celestial maiden? Pathetic lies!"
The green-robed cultivator sneered. "Celestials don’t visit dung heaps. Let’s see this so-called…"
CRACK!
Lightning split the sky, striking him mid-sentence. When the glare faded, only a smoking crater remained, charred robes fluttering in the breeze.
Lin Cheng: "…"
Xu Shouyi: "…"
All: "…"
Well.
Ask for thunder…
