Chapter 27: The Disturbance in Shangyang City
After understanding the significance of the celestial maiden’s existence, You You felt the sudden weight of great responsibility. The thought of shouldering a sect’s entire livelihood made the pressure overwhelming.
She had no idea how to establish an immortal sect from scratch. Among her teammates, only Lin Feng knew about cultivation sects. He suggested visiting the Lin family first – her first disciple (well, recruit!). The Lin family would make natural allies.
Though merely a prominent family in the Mortal Realm, the Lins had connections to immortal clans. Since You You needed allies, the group hurried toward Shangyang City.
After days of travel, the teammates grew accustomed to You You’s new status. Though still respectful, they no longer kept ten feet away like she’d catch their "mundane cooties". The bold ones even chatted normally.
Yin Fan mentioned he and Lin Feng grew up together in Shangyang’s prominent families. As the Lin family’s eldest son, Lin Feng excelled in both academics and martial arts. Everyone expected him to join an immortal sect.
"Then why’d he go to the border city?" You You asked.
"Blame that Xu family bastard…" Yin Fan began, but Lin Feng shot him a silencing glare.
"Noble Lady, ancient history isn’t worth discussing," Lin Feng interrupted, pointing ahead. "We must reach Shangyang City before dusk."
Nearing the city gates, they found crowds fleeing outward. Guards blocked their entry.
"Stop!" A guard eyed them like idiots. "Entering now? Got a death wish?"
"My family’s inside," Lin Feng insisted.
"Family?" The guard snorted. "Doubt you’ll find anything left. Scram if you value your lives!"
The ground suddenly quaked. An enraged roar shook the city.
Monster!
The guard panicked, shoving evacuees. "Move! While the Lin family’s still holding it off!"
"Lin family?!" Lin Feng grabbed the guard’s collar. "Which Lin family?!"
"Shangyang’s martial arts Lins! Let go!"
"Father… Mother…" Lin Feng turned pale, then looked desperately at You You.
"What’re you waiting for?" She charged past him into the city.
Inside, abandoned streets echoed with distant crashes. Another tremor hit as crimson light erupted from the west.
"The Sealing Formation!" Lin Feng froze.
"Your family’s ancestral formation?" Yin Fan gasped. "Then your…"
Lin Feng sprinted toward the light, past collapsed buildings and fresh bloodstains. Servants blocked their path.
"Monster subduing ahead! Stay back!"
"I’m from the Lin family! Let me through!"
"Xu family head’s orders! No entry!"
"Xu Shouyi?!" Lin Feng’s rage flared. "What’s he plotting?"
A drunken man staggered out. "Well, if it isn’t the Lin family’s stray mutt!"
"Xu Shouyi!" Lin Feng’s fists shook. "Why’s our formation active while you’re here?"
"Fifth-level monsters require immortal sect help." Xu Shouyi smirked. "Your pathetic family makes decent bait."
Lin Feng’s veins bulged. He glanced at You You.
"Quit talking. Charge."
Relieved, Lin Feng knocked guards aside.
"You dare?!" Xu Shouyi yelled. "Remember your oath…"
Lightning crackled around Lin Feng’s hands. A thunderous net zapped everyone blocking them.
"Magic? How?!"
Ignoring the chaos, Lin Feng raced toward the crimson glow.
